Philippe Coutinho Barcelona Player

He's an absolute shite commentator but that was comedy gold.

I agree that it’s not great to lose a great player from our league for the entertainment factor. But from a selfish point of view, I couldn’t care what players direct rivals lose as long as we aren’t losing our top players. For me it’s all about what United do and not anyone else.

Although, counting has generated another £140mil into Liverpool so technically they should be able to bring in another big name starts to the EPL. Like Lemar. Not that I want them to.

I completely understand being indifferent to rival teams losing their best players because if it’s not your team why should you care. It’s the people that hope and wish for the other teams best player to leave that is strange. This demonstrates the complete opposite of indifference. For example, while I admire watching other good players in the league, I could care less about any other teams players as leaving and going as long as Chelsea has a strong and healthy squad that is performing at the level that is expected. I’d imagine it should be the same for United fans.

I would love it if Hazard, De Bruyne, Salah all left the Premier League. I don't watch to be entertained by City/Liverpool. I don't get any enjoyment from KDB putting on a midfield masterclass.

All I care about is being entertained by Utd and us winning trophies. If that's made easier by our rivals losing their best players then great.

I don't rate Neymar that high either, he is very overrated IMO, but still he is worth 500m if Coutinho worths this much.

How much is Coutinho worth then, in your opinion?

Also I don't know how you've come to the conclusion that Neymar is over-rated, seeing as the general consensus is that he's probably the 3rd best player in the world but a level below Messi/Ronny (maybe not this season for the latter), which is probably correct...

I dunno, but nowhere near the money they paid for him. Not that I care, but if I was Liverpool fan I would be pretty happy with that transfer and mad if I was Barca fan.

General consensus few years ago was that sometimes at this point he is going to become as good as Messi or Ronaldo, and he is still nowhere near Ronaldo's best level, let alone anywhere near close to Messi's best. Excellent player though, but just saying why I think he is overrated.

that the Geordie commentator? His bias towards Barca is off the scale.

He has an orgasm every time Messi touches the ball; people called him out for it and so he started making up stupid names for Ronaldo like 'The Dark Invader' as if that's what every one calls him.

Just a horrible commentator, I'm English and I can't stand him.

Thats a fair point and no doubt its easier to win if your rivals have much inferior players. I just think it's kind of a weak mentality to have. My dad being a United fan always told me that winning the title over Arsenal in the late 90's and early 00's as well as mid 00's Chelsea was a little sweeter because the victories came against stelar opposition. To each their own I guess.

Has anyone else picked up on the comments made by "Football Expert" - Phil Thompson..?

Phil Thompson questions what Philippe Coutinho will gain from January Barcelona move.
"It's hard to get my head around what Philippe is going to gain because he can't play Champions League football for them.
They are running away with the league, and he's got the World Cup at the end of the season...
"Will he play regularly every week at Barcelona? I'm not too sure. Philippe could have carried on at Liverpool and he could have been playing in the Champions League. It's a great opportunity for him to play every week, to play at the highest level with Liverpool. So I do scratch my head wondering"

He really just doesn't get it at all, does he..:lol:

So much confusion as to why Coutinho was desperate to leave this month - the guy has spent four years living in Liverpool, wouldn't you want to be on the first plane out?

Coutinho wanted the Barca move so badly, he doesnt give a feck about the Champions League with Liverpool or if he is playing week in week out for Barca.
They wouldnt buy him for that fee to sit on the bench anyway.

Once in a lifetime opportunity, he wanted to grab it. To play with the best players in the world and to live in Barcelona is what he said. A serious injury and no top club would touch him for a while

Pretty much.

While I hate that he's left, I don't blame him at all for wanting to play and live in Barcelona.

Was his contract up this summer? Why didn't Liverpool refuse to sell up until the season was over?
Had something like 4 years left I believe. Klopp’s statement hints that keeping him might affect the overalll team chemistry. Likely didn’t want an unhappy Coutinho in his teammates’ ears slagging off the club at every opportunity.

What about if they all came to United? Then you get to be entertained and other teams lost their players. Win win.

I think he would be a massive success and will try utmost to fill Iniesta's shoe. It speaks volume of a player and his desire, when he takes a pay cut and is ready to not play and watch it from the sidelines for an entire half-season. I want players like that to play for my club.

Ballbag says Iniesta might leave Barcelona in the summer and Coutinho is groomed to be his replacement.

Coutinho is an example of lesser player , won feck all with Liverpool , pogba has won trophies every year & went to ucl final before he cameback to united. If coutinho is 140m , pogba is 150m minimum today , the only reason people call him overrated is because he played with united. If he was still juve player he would cost more than coutinho today

Not totally sure what that means, are you implying playing for United devalues a player whilst playing for Juventus adds value?

The pay cut is only relative to the initial contract agreed with barcelona. He still got a hefty wage bump compared to liverpool

Coutinho on Suarez said:
"We are good friends and he wrote me a lot of messages telling me about the city and the club. It just made me want to come here even more."

Agent Luis.

Dippers must be delighted with that :)

list of brazilians in the premier league
- David Luiz - League + CL
- Ramires - League + CL
- Kleberson - League
- Anderson - League + CL
- Rafael - League + CL
- Coutinho - scored that goal one time that was good

Cant wait to see him in action. La Liga is the perfect platform for him to showcase his talents. I think he will thrive both in the system and the culture of the club. I think the signing will also help Suarez who has struggled a bit at times this season

Pretty much. I was thinking about this when reading about the transfer and some of the players we’ve let go.

They all became well known and better players at Liverpool, but none of them won much, which is ultimately what the ambition of professional athletes should be...to win.

Alonso started the trend. He won a Champions League and an FA Cup but look at what he’s achieved since leaving Liverpool. A La Liga and Champions League with Madrid and multiple league titles at Bayern.

Mascherano was next. He saw what was coming with Hodgson and went to Barcelona to win everything.

Then Torres left a few months later to go to Chelsea. He was fairly poor for them but won the FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League all within the space of 12 months, whilst winning nothing at Liverpool in three and a half seasons.

Fast forward to the next time we had a genuinely world class player and you have Suarez, who put everything he could into pushing us to a league title but still fell short. One League Cup doesn’t really compare to two La Liga’s, a Champions League and multiple Copa del Rey’s does it?

Next up is the much vilified Sterling. He’s about to win his first Premier League medal for a side that looks set up to win trophies for the foreseeable future. His alternative was to stay with us and play for a manager on the brink, and a club that was about to go through yet another cycle of rebuilding under a new manager.

Now it’s Coutinho who in five years has nearly won the league and been on the losing side in some finals. Sure he could gamble in the hope that we break out of this slump of not winning trophies and suddenly become great again, but why would he? All he has to do is look at the list of players I’ve just listed to see what the right decision for him (as a player) was.

Until we learn how to actually win trophies again (even if it’s the Coca Cola/Milk/Worthington/Carling/League/Carabou/Robbie Savage’s incoherent commentary Cup) we’ll continue to lose every player that steps up and show signs of being a winner, because you can’t really be a winner at Liverpool nowadays.

I’ve got no idea what the answer is. It seems like a cycle that has to be broken before we can move forward. We’re not a terrible club to play for, but we’re not the ambition for players either. Clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona are.

Rant over.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the lifestyle the size of the club and playing with the best player in the world as well as being one of the strongest teams in the world

How does he think Coutinho will not play regularly for them when they are paying €160 million for him?

Utterly deluded Phil is on that one

As much as I know, the pay cut I am talking about is the initial signing bonus that each player receives. He won't be getting that. Don't know anything about his wages though.
