I love how Jones goes on mad runs from midfield like he's Robson or summat then realises he's not and feck's up.

I thought he probably had one of his top 2 games at CM today. Broke up everything that Arsenal tried to start in the first half, and consequently allowed Carrick to spray the ball around comfortably at his own pace. I thought we lost control of the midfield after he dropped back, and Carrick looked like he was struggling with Arsenal's passing and intensity. Was watching his positioning off the ball as well, as this has been a particular gripe of mine when he plays CM, and I thought he did well today in that respect. Great first half performance for me.

Impressive display today, managed to maintain an undiminished degree of awareness and discipline after being moved to the back from central midfield in the second half.

He is an all action player who will always pick up an injury due to the way he plays. He is far quicker than he looks to the point not many will beat him in a foot race.

He has everything that Fellaini lacks.

Very impressive from him today. Not had the best of seasons so far but today he was back to his usual barnstorming self. Hard to believe he is still so young. Plenty of room to improve.

Personifies everything Fellaini's midfield performances have been missing

Yeah I was very happy seeing Jones over Fellaini in midfield even though he isn't a midfielder. These type of games are the ones Jones excels in.

Simply outstanding, an imperious display in both positions.

But nearly ruined all his good work right at the end failing to cut out that cross from Sagna. Thankfully Bendtner is shit.

The thing that makes him such a good asset for us in midfield is how fast and strong he is, and how much energy he puts into the game. He's got fantastic work rate and is a good tackler of the ball and isn't afraid to get stuck in. The big difference between him and Fellaini when he plays there is how much they move around and the speed that they do it at. Fellaini is a bit lazy surprisingly, but Jones goes everywhere around the pitch. He has all the physical attributes to be a great midfielder, but really he is a defender because he isn't good enough on the ball to become a midfielder long term. He's decent on the ball, but he's made to be a center back, not a central midfielder. He's arguably third choice for midfield though, maybe even second, especially in the big games. If only we could sign somebody like Jones but with a midfielders mind, and with good technique in January. Would be the ideal player for us right now.

Greatest performance ever.

And he was very decent in midfield. It's a relief to know he can do a job like that against a very good side. I'm not sold on him as a midfielder as such - but he is clearly a big match player. Can't have enough of those.

Did anybody see just after he won that foul shepherding a ball out in our box, when he was sat on the floor and di a weird boddy-popping move? It looked like he'd been spooked by a ghost or something... I need a gif!

Know what you mean, but he showed he can break up play and go on driving runs- you can't ask much more from a defensive midfielder. he may not be the most creative but that first half performance is one of his few that has made me think he could do a very effective job there.

he pulled a Javi Martinez performance today. They have similar style, but Jones is the greatest ever, so he could go on to be whatever the feck he wants to be...

really happy for him.

Excellent display and performed his role to the tee. Didn't give arsenal players any time on the ball.

Imperious today. Top, top player.

Absolutely - very encouraging in that sense.

I don't know - perhaps we should just let him play there until Cleverley and/or Fellaini get their shit together. The latter two haven't come up with anything this season nearly as good as what Phil offered today.

Yep, hope he gains a lot of confidence from that performance. Hell those clashes he had, his head is made of granite.

He's great at CB right now, his power and desire to throw himself into everything really shine there, and we don't need to worry about him running up a dead end.
