Pes 2008

There has been reports of some pretty bad slow down and frame rate issues with this new version.

Will still end up buying it as I have with every version since the first PS2 version. Still if its true its disappointing to have such issues on a console as powerful as the PS3.
This has all the hall marks of a rushed release, not enough development time I guess.

So this time Pro Evo will be better on the 360?

Nobody said that. The last I read, they said they didn't know why it slowed down slightly more on the PS3. Yes, that's correct, they knew it was happening but couldn't do anything about it because they didn't know why or couldn't work out why in time for the release. FFS!

How about it does so because you coded the core engine of the thing for multi-platform compilation?

I bought the game on PS3 this morning, it's back in the box already. I'm being hit by the slowdown thing in a serious way, it's virtually in slow-mo, throughout the game, no matter what area of the field/how crowded it is etc.

I've tried a lot of things that have been suggested to help on places like pesfan, and none of them have. The game just jumps and stutters constantly, but it seems other people have the opposite experience so not sure what the problem is....

You've been drinking?

I don't trust reviews or reviewers as far as I can throw them, but even crap like IGN are not that stupid to give it a 9.2 if it has the issues you say it does.

Have you been smoking weed? Bumped your head on something?

Fraid not mate, the game's just that dodgy. I'm not ruling out there being a setting i could tweak or something, but it's not my ps3 or my telly (tried 2 of both). A patch is apparently going to be released, hopefully that helps matters

Went half way across Belfast to get the game

Hope it's worth it

Downloaded it last night and played my first games just now. Overall my first impressions are good. Nice to see proper corners now with Rio and Vida attacking, and also some of the awful shooting animations from the last version seem to be gone. Can't wait to get the kits up to date and tons of new faces and stadiums. Tevez looks like a weirdo and Brown seems to be white instead of orange

Commentary is much better too

Plenty of people are saying that. Hell, I read reviews today that slated the PS3 version completely!

It's almost unplayable online, so glitchy

Lag… the thing all online gamers dread. It seems once again Konami has failed to create a game which can be played online in a lag free environment. Even with the best connections it PES 2008 stutters huge amounts during online play. This is in addition to the ridiculous amounts of slowdown during both online and offline gaming.

Konami responded to the reports of lag, made by gamers lucky enough to get their game earlier than the release date of tomorrow, with this statment…

Konami Digital Entertainment has uncovered issues which can affect the online gameplay quality of PES 2008 on PLAYSTATION 3. We are working at full strength to find a solution as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologise for this inconvenience. Further announcements will be made as soon as we have additional details.

You can leave Konami your views about the lag and give them information on which stadiums have the most lag by completing this form at their official website.

Meanwhile, posing as a customer, gaming website Pro-G contacted Konami and received this information over the telephone:

We were told that a patch was being worked on that would not only attempt to improve offline play but also online play. However, Konami does not have a timeframe on when that patch will be released.

So they know what it is now?

Just got it today for the ps3 i'm still at work so will have to wait till i get home to play it..

I'm eager to see what this pro evo malarky is all about...i've intermittedly played Fifa over the years and quite like 2008 version and i wouldn't mind doing a comparison between the two.

Whats the deal with this slowing gameplay? im not bothered with online play as i havn't hooked my playstation to the broadband yet but whats the deal with offline play?

Got my ps3 version today. Very happy with it, not really noticed slowdown, not that i know what im exactly looking for.

Anyway Im very happy with it and look forward to not leaving the house for several days.

Ben - as someone whos played a fair bit of FIFA08 on the PS3 - how do you think they compare?

IGN are impressed by almost everything under the sun mate.

Am looking forward to it though. The game that is.

The game is sponsored by IGN, as seen after every match when the logo appears beneath the match stats.

Keep you eyes on this if you are interested in reviews.

I'll check it out.

Played it for myself on the PS3 all day so far, and I personally thought it was brilliant. A few small issues, but nothing that really takes anything substantial from the game. The game play is superb, a fantastic improvement on last years style. The shooting is the same as usual, except those incredible shots from so far out, aren't as frequent. The passing is excellent, a touch more realistic as not all through balls magically find their target, you have to aim properly this time. The speed of the game is perfect, it's not too fast that it's unrealistic, and it's not too slow to bore you either, it runs smooth and nice.

Overall, I think the new Pro is excellent so far. A sharper menu system, easier save modes, the save highlight system. The only slight problems are the slow-ups on replay scenes, a thin Edit Mode and the obvious licensing issue. But none of those things are really anything to take away from the actual game. A few dress-up flaws sure, but the core of the game, the actual football, is beautiful.

I enjoyed FIFA for a good few weeks or so, but my overall opinion is that Pro is better, its the gameplay that does it for me. Although FIFA have actually brought out a decent game this year, still pro for me.

My mind was probably made up before i even played pro however as i was praying it would be better anyway, so i could be a bit biased.

I need help with this..

I got PES2008 on PC, and I cant save anything I change in EDIT. I mean everytime I open up the game I have to edit the formation again.

I save it in the edit menu, play, close the game, open it again, nothing saved.

Any ideas?

I picked my copy up today for the PS3. Haven't noticed any issues in relation to slowdown/frame rate yet.

The core game is excellent. However it would be nice if Konami put a little meat on the bones in regards to the MASTER LEAGUE mode. Its basically been the same for about 5 years!

This is why I don't trust reviews at all nowadays, it's the old adage that you can't please everyone all of the time - no, ever! Look at some of them for example with Rachet & Clank! Some of them are bitching about the lack of a multiplayer option in a game that really was never designed to be such. Why the feck does everything have to be multiplayer in this day and age? What the hell is wrong with a good old single player funfest? FFS! They didn't complain or even bring the subject of lack of multiplayer online with Bioshock did they?

Never trust reviews, most are probably done nowadays by spotty teenagers who don't even know who David Braben is!

Played this on PS3 over at my mates, no slowdown or nothing, the game is just shit and plays nothing like any of the previous pro evo's, so we turned it off and went back to playing PES6, now thats football...

I've read a few reviews moaning about the lack of it.

The ball moves through the air so fast it's just stupid

I think I actually prefered FIFA to this

Excellent. Not played on PES yet, but i've been told that Fifa absolutely shits all over the new Pro Evo.
