Are people really comapring Reina and barthez?!
It's not going to happen lads, I know you can say well 'look at Torres' 'look at Figo' but I doubt Liverpool would sell to us if we were unwilling to sell to them - infact, I feel the nature of the two clubs means that SAF would not even ask about him. Or any player at Liverpool for what it's worth.
Not better than Gordon, and the Scot would cost less.

VDS is equal to him at most things though, apart from his shit distribution.

Top, top keeper. He's an amazing shot stopper and has the best distribution out of any keeper I've seen since Schmeichel. VDS is equal to him at most things though, apart from his shit distribution.
Why is everyone going on in here about how Liverpool will not sell us Reina? He has a buyout clause and if we match the price in his clause, then they have no choice but to let us talk to Reina about contract situations. Then it is up to the player and not the club he is playing for. If we are not going to match his buyout clause price, then it is a whole different story. If we offer anything less than the 20m clause price, then we will not get him.
If there is such a clause (which I doubt) and it is 20 million (which I doubt) then we'd be mad not to buy him imo.
Apparently Purslow included the clauses as a way of persuading Torres and Reina to stay on last summer.
This was from Tony Barrett of The Times on Jan 8th:
One of Purslow’s many mistakes was belatedly put right today but there are still countless others still to be rectified as Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s owners, are discovering to their cost since their takeover in October. Chief among them are the release clauses that Purslow inserted in the contracts of Pepe Reina and Fernando Torres which will allow the star duo to leave this summer should rival clubs match the conditions written into in their current deals.
It has been suggested by Purslow’s allies, a steadily dwindling group at Anfield, that the clauses were inserted to protect the club. Such logic bears no scrutiny, not when the decisive manner that Arsenal dealt with serious interest in Cesc Fabregas following the World Cup. “Not for sale at any price” was Arsenal’s reaction to interest in their best player from Barcelona. No fee was suggested, no price placed on his head and no weakness shown. Liverpool, by contrast, watered down the contracts of two of their best players to such an extent that it would be no surprise if both left this summer. That is Purslow’s legacy and it is one that FSG are now struggling to deal with. The time bomb is ticking and they are yet to find a way of defusing it.
At least they have now found the fuse, though. Removing Hodgson from a post that he should never have been offered in the first place is a crucial step in the right direction. It sends out a message that mediocrity will no longer be tolerated and it gives hope to players and supporters alike that the club’s owners are willing and able to make the big decisions that Liverpool have cowered away from for far too long as a result of endemic dysfunctionality in the boardroom.

If Man United met the clause in Reina's contract he could join them if he wanted to.
scouseadam patty purple
@TonyBarretTimes your saying pepe has a release clause are you sure he has one. i cant see lfc having on in his contract
TonyBarretTimes Tony Barrett
@scouseadam I couldn't be more sure mate

Good point @woolfc, context: Pepe was asked how he felt about rumours #mufc and #arsenal needed keepers. Answered honestly. #LFC
Where is the £20m mentioned then?
It's bollocks, it would be at least double that.
You have got to be kidding me!
Nope ...
Gordon better shot-stopper - both have fantastic reactions with none better but Gordon is longer, like VDS and will get to shots Reina can't.
Gordon has better concentration (Reina has stood behind one of the best defensively minded teams in the last 4-5 yrs bar the last year, and lo & behold what do you see, far more errors appearing in his game).
They're just as good or bad however you want to phrase it on the command of the area but this is dependent on the defenders at your disposal.
Reina is better than Gordon with the ball at his feet.
Overall, I'd say Gordon the more consistent, and in no way inferior to Reina ...therefore at 12-15mill, for a slightly younger keeper is better value for money/bang for your buck.

You are either mad, or Craig himself. Reina wouldn't get bullied like Gordon last week and is so far ahead of him it aint funny.

You really need to sober up. If you are going to spend 15 fecking million on Gordon, then I d rather we spend a little more and get a better and even younger GK.
I must be mad as Craig ain't the trumpeting type
And there is no keeper in the world that wouldn't have been made to look a chump by the circumstances that arose at the Brittania on Saturday past.
Reina is a short arse - no danger he's have got anywhere near those balls.
If the ref is just going to let four animals like Jones, Carew, Huth and Shawcross (nevermind the two aerial donkeys Bramble & Ferdinand) chase in perfectly flighted Pennant free-kicks without any thought for what was actually going on in there then one might as well not bother with refs - make it a free-for-all.
Did you actually watch the game or did you just base your opinion on the three minute highlights, and specifically the first goal where he was fouled while attempting to jump up for the ball ?

@TonyEvansTimes Can you confirm 100% that a release clause in Reina's contract definitely exists? Thanks
TonyEvansTimes Tony Evans
@Bryan_Munich It exists
Bryan_Munich Bryan Munich
@TonyEvansTimes Thanks for that. Do we know how much?
TonyEvansTimes Tony Evans
@Bryan_Munich 20m
Tony Evans is the scouse journo, right? If the clause is indeed 20 million then I think we would be very stupid not to look into it.

That sounded really gay, you are a little infactuated with Craig no?
"No keeper in the World"? You are nuts.
6ft 2inc.... Short arse? You are bonkers.
Reina does just fine vs. Stoke.
There was no fouls.
Did you watch all of Stoke City vs fecking Sunderland? Just to stare at Craig's bum or?
Gay ? Nuts ? Bonkers ?
How old are you ? It's rhetorical btm. Its almost midnight so you'd better turn off the flashlight under that Liver-bird emblazoned duvet cover and shut the laptop down before daddy gets up the stairs. Pathetic.

Joking aside, if you can stick up for that dogturd performance then you seriously must be looking with a huge degree of bias. This kinda reminds me of Konchesky's mum.
At least you edited your own piece obviously in a scramble to preserve any integrity you had.
He claimed plenty of crosses and throw ins so I suspect just like the full back's shorts you based your opinions on the goal highlights. His arm was held down when he attempted to claim the ball that led to the first goal.
And there is no blatantly biased attempt to defend his performance - it wasn't one of his best but most appear to be ignoring the extenuating circumstances which obviously played a part and I doubt whether any other keeper would have come away in similar circumstances smelling of roses.
think man.
At least you edited your own piece obviously in a scramble to preserve any integrity you had..
I watched the full game, Gordon was awful, there was never a foul, offside yes but foul no chance.
I don't want Reina either btw, but Gordon was terrible.
So, explain to me why he never got off the ground when he attempted to jump directly up and claim the ball ? I'll tell you why, because Huth leaned into him and got his arm into Gordon's bicep (oooh errr - that's for you Sharky) inner elbow area.
If anything, Gordon's 'error' there was probably geting to the space to early so he was forced to jump directly vertical when if he had delayed slightly he's have been able to take a running jump. He's 6-3 or thereabouts so I suspect with outstretched arms he'd comfortably reach higher than any attacker - as he was doing throughout with other throw-ins and crosses.
If it was a joke I would have thought 'Ohhh, you cad Sharky. Ho ho ho.' or the like. But no, you even realised you'd acted a bit of a tit, hence the addition. Go on admit it since we're talking about not wanting to lose face.
It's about opinions and I've stated mine on these boards for a while now - I've no problem being proved wrong about Craig Gordon's abilities and I sincerely hope he gets the opportunity to prove it (or fail for that matter) with a bigger club than Sunderland (no disrespect intended). If that doesn't happen to be United then so be it, I suspect the club will survive without him or one of my recommendations (to you lot reading not the club obviously - that was just in case you wanted to make an associated snide remark).
More often than not I've generally been correct on my assessment of players so I see no reason to doubt my opinions on Gordon. I genuinely believe him to be a top keeper who will only get better, and I'm simply trying to tout him for united because that is where I'd like to see him keep net.
He's not playing for Rangers in the SPL or Schalke in the Bundesliga, he's been playing for Sunderland for three years in the EPL, the self-styled best, fastest, toughest league in the world, AND he's been one of the most consistent keepers with very very few mistakes allowed in that time. Ohh, and did I mention that he also has 40+ international caps.
Nahhh, I'm his mum.

Ohh don't get me wrong, it was a clever piece of gamesmanship by Huth but don't pretend it didn't affect his ability to jump because it most obviously did.
Look the point i'm trying to make and its pretty obvious if you (and I mean the general you not specifically you) is that Gordon is a very good keeper that had a bad day at the office on Saturday BUT one cannot just put it down to simply his actions alone.
Reina is a good keeper but I really don't believe him to be a better option than Gordon - that is why i'm on here stating my case. If others don't like it or agree then they're free to say so but if its a simple case of well, he's not good enough for United then I can't take that seriously unless they can come up with alternatives and back that up with solid analysis.
I think everybody knows that it's especially difficult to compare keepers because they are so integrally linked to their fellow defenders. It therefore it basically comes down to how well each keeper maintains their concentrations - I've seen plenty of concentration losses in the past two seasons from the so-called top keepers in this league, Reina and Cech being two of them (considering the quality of the defences and the styles their teams play). Ask any Mackem how many mistakes Gordon has made in his spell with them and I'm pretty sure, given you don't get one of the many Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime they have a pretty impressive response.
He's not flashy, but he is very calm & composed - not unlike VDS tbh.

There's no point in reasoning with you laddie. I frankly, can't be arsed. Good night.
BTW - this was a reply intended for phelans shorts.
Roughly translated, "you've found soooooo many holes in my argument it now looks like a piece of swiss cheese".
Lovin' the condescending "laddie"
