Pepe Reina?

If the quotes are real, and if the ""I can't do anything. I can't say anything logically as I have a contract with Liverpool. "Of course one likes to fight for titles and be in a team that does that." quotes come directly after the ""Yes, well Van der Sar will hang up his gloves in the summer so of course they are looking." quote, then I actually think it is very interesting.

Most likely the quotes are re-arranged to make it sound like he's talking directly about us when he's actually talking about something different, or maybe even completely made up.

I'd still prefer Neuer, myself.

It's The Sun translating from a Spanish radio interview and even with the most likely incorrect translation he still doesn't say anything about wanting to join United.

United and Liverpool don't do business and it is less likely now than ever before, for Reina it would be virtual suicide and simply not worth the aggro the modern loon supporters would heap on him.

Right now Dalglish has the feelings running high at the club, if he can keep that until the end of the season I am sure Reina will be happy to stay, at least another year anyway to see if they can get back into the CL.

I don't think he'll stay at Liverpool, but no, I don't want him here, and it has nothing to do with his goalkeeping abilities. And I don't hate Owen.

Reina is comfortably in the best two keepers in the league (depending on how high you rate Edwin).

I don't think we'll get him (they'll not sell him to us even if they are flogging him off) but he'd be an awesome replacement for Van Der Sar.

They will not sell him to us? I thought if a team matches the buyout clause mark, the other team has to sell that player.

Reina?...Does that mean I have to start watching the scousers play?

You have never seen him play so far? He is a very good keeper regardless. Just don't know if he is worth 20m. If it was somewhere around the 12m, then it is a very very good buy.

Is it because he plays for Liverpool or because you are not satisfied with his abilities?
I have been his biggest critic even prior to his Liverpool days. He has that Barthez disease. He will make a howler out of the blue when it is least needed. A great example was Spain's 4 nil loss away to Argentina.

I don't ever want us to sign another keeper with that disease.

Agreed. He makes way too many howlers for my liking. It's great be a good shot stopper but you can't make Howard esque errors.

Of course I have, but I'd love to have seen him on a regular basis and against various opponents.

By the way, 20 m is not that much any more

For a regular outfield player it is not too much but for a GK, it still is my friend, it still is. When was the last time a team spent 20m on a GK?

would love for us to sign Riena - i do think he is a bit poor on crosses (not that bad, has improved a lot since he first arrived at Liverpool) but his distribution would sell him to me - quick and very accurate; just what i love to see.

Can he play in midfield?

As a GK please God no!

I think we're deliberately lining up lots og GKs to take the price down.

If we settle on 1 GK then the price goes up:

Stekelenberg, Adler, Neuer, Lloris, de Gea, Reina, and the chap at CSKA.

Reina would be my pick tbh, if he's available then we should throw 20m Liverpool's way and see if it tempts them

£20m is said to be his release clause in the event they don't finish 4th, it'd be tempting him that'd be the problem.

Would Reina be welcomed?

A lot of us including myself struggled to come to terms with Michael Owen joining our club. Although for me it was part because he played for Pool and a lot to do with the fact that I do not overly rate him as a player in recent years and understandable concerns over his fitness.

With rumours refusing to go away about Pepe Reina (I don't think it is going to happen) but hypothetically speaking would anyone one have a major issue with him replacing van der Sar?

The Barthez comparison seems apt. Don't think United would want to go down that road again.

Barthez was a fantastic keeper, imo, when he concentrated on being a keeper. Unfortunately he was a nutter, which is what cost him/us.

Reina isn't anywhere close to Barthez in nuttership.

Reina is one of those sportsmen who will gain weight once he gets into his thirties. Hardly likely play beyond his 34-35 birthday at the very top level. If the 20 Million buy out clause is correct then divide that by 6 years plus add on his salary - makes it a very expensive purchase.

As if Liverpool would ever sell him to us in a trillion years. Thred closed. He is coming out saying this as he is obviously looking for a pay rise at Liverpool or is sounding out other Champions league teams that he is available.

Later today I imagine that radio translation will be revealed as misinterpreted and that will put and end to this.

Personally I'd have no issue with him coming here, he can be a bit of prick, like the way he runs the length of the field to yell at a ref over a tackle, but no team is devoid of pricks. I've never liked Owen much but not becasue he played for Liverpool, however he's been a pro here and Reina would be as well, plus he's in his prime.

Would be a fantastic signing. I'd take him over any of the other foreign keepers we've been linked with, none of whom are used to playing with the relatively minimal protection keepers get from referees in the Premier League.

Don't see it happening though. The new owners seem to have made most of their major decisions based around winning popularity with the fans. They wouldn't countenance selling a player as good as Reina to United.

He would, the scouse take more piss than us in regards to players from the other side. We probably define it as "rubbing salt on their wounds" by loving Reina

Whoever got the better player ussually takes it as a punchline.

Can't imagine if they do get Rooney, but it's their loss on Reina

PS: Wouldnt' want him personally

yes ofcourse he would. He never claimed to be a liverpool fan. He wanted to be loyal but the teams gone down the pan, and watch Torres go to chelsea. As long as he produced the goods then theres's no problem at all. It's an important position and we need to get it right

Liverpool would never sell him to us. Especially after we refused to sell them Heinze.

He'd be welcomed though. I reckon any new signing would be welcomed with open arms, even Steven Gerrard if we happened to sign him.

Are we all fecking dreaming or what?

No way Liverpool will sell him to us, unless the new owners seriously dont value their lives.
