Pepe Reina?

If they did have a buyout fee in the contracts for a set price, it would usually be for silly money which is way over the market value.

The Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has indicated that he will consider leaving the club at the end of the season if he is not satisfied with their progress.

The Spaniard has ruled out asking for a move in January but said he wants to feel certain that the team will challenge for major honours under the club's new owners, New England Sports Ventures.

"I signed a six-year deal seven months ago and I'm happy at the club but every footballer wants to be competing for trophies and winning things," Reina was quoted by the Daily Mail. "I will stay at Liverpool until the end of the season. I know there are rumours of me leaving but I want to make it clear that I have no intention of going back to Spain."

Reina has won only one major trophy, the 2006 FA Cup, since he joined from Villarreal five years ago, although he did play in the 2007 Champions League final defeat by Milan.

He spoke glowingly of the club's former manager Rafael Benítez, who signed him. Benítez left last summer to take over at Internazionale and was succeeded by Roy Hodgson, who has overcome a difficult start at Anfield to record four straight wins, including Sunday's over the Premier League leaders and champions, Chelsea.

"Rafael Benítez was an essential person for this club and the reason I came to Liverpool," Reina said.

The goalkeeper recently held talks with Liverpool's new owner, John W Henry, as did the striker Fernando Torres, another player who has been linked with a possible move if the club's fortunes do not continue to pick up.

Henry said he had been "heartened by the response" of Reina and Torres and "the intelligence of these players". The American described himself as "upset" at suggestions they could leave in January.

When he says he is not going to be Spain, that means there are only two options for him - stay in England or go to Italy.

If he stays in England and he wants to leave Liverpool, it could be interesting because Tottenham have Gomes and aren't really going to win titles. City have Hart and Chelsea have Cech.

Arsene won't go for him because he'll cost more than 10M and he won't pay that much for a keeper. Which kinda leaves us as the only other option who can actually afford him and we are the only team left who can win trophies in England.

Inter have Cesar and I don't think Reina is going there either to join up with Benitez. AC Milan is an option and Juventus are out because they have Buffon. What do you lads think? Is he just going to stay with Pool if they make the Europa League?

it was rumoured in the summer that Arsenal were in for him, and Bob Wilson, according to some arsenal site i have forgotten the name of, made it pretty clear that Arsenal made a big move for him in the summer.

I heard Arsene was in for him and I know Arsenal have the money to spend but are they really going to spend 12-15M on a keeper? They were in for him in the summer because they might have thought they could get him a little cheap since he did not play in the WC. Maybe his price tag put them off.

If Spurs want to challenge for the title. Then signing this man would be a massive step forward, espically if they also sign Cahill. Should be an interesting Summer.

He'll be Inter bound though. Most likely destination I suppose, but football is a funny game.

The actual quote, fake or not, was "I will stay at Liverpool at least until the end of the season" which suggests he could be just rebuffing all the claims that he's going to use his secret get out clause to leave in January. Either way he's not going anywhere, he loves us.

:lol::lol::lol:

This bit kills me everytime. One of the world's best keepers, on a six year contract (and no silly January clauses, perlease...) valued at 15million tops.

How much were Arsenal only prepared to go for Alonso when we trying to sell him? 18 million was it?

Nothing personal, but I'd like to  at this bit. It's not going to happen in the next 10 years*, you heard it here first.

*It still might happen, but since we're talking about Spurs, nah...

I disagree tbh. I think they're very close in all honesty. Just need 1 or 2 more quality first teamers and there pretty much up there with Arsenal, City, Us etc.

He can't be. Inter have Cesar. Why would any team want two world class GK's?

No, just no. I have nothing against Spurs, but they'll be punching above their weights if they think they can mix in with the big guys. I'm very happy for them to grab a fourth in front of City or Pool last season, and will be even happier if they can do that again for the next few, but that's as far as they can go. Spurs is to title challengera is us to relegation fodders, i.e. very very very verrrrrrry low chance of happening.

And please dont put us in the same bracket with Arsenal or City. City is an unknown, who is as likely be imploding as to win the league, whereas Arsenal is Arsenal of the last few years, i.e. all hype, no substance. We'll be there or thereabouts by the end of the season.

An official statement that will say it is all press speculation, reina is happy and committed to the club and the club have no intention of selling their top players.

All of which may be true, or may be lies.

It won't be anything to go on.

Former goalkeeping great Peter Schmeichel believes that Liverpool's Pepe Reina would be the perfect choice to replace Edwin van der Sar in goal for Manchester United.

Van der Sar, 40, is coming to the end of a glittering career having joined from Fulham in 2005. A string of keepers have been linked with the position, including Schalke's Manuel Neuer and Atletico's David de Gea, but Schmeichel believes one man is better than the rest.

"I'm pretty sure they would go for someone like Reina. I'm pretty sure that's what they are trying to do," Schmeichel told Beyond The Pitch. "You can look at talent, you can look at young, good players - you don't want that. You want someone that can go in straight away and give performances in 80% of the games that the No. 1 choice goalkeeper will play for Manchester United.

"Too many goalkeepers have been through in and out of the doors at Manchester United and I think now the general perception is, for this team to play well and win trophies, that position has to be someone who is of the very, very highest quality, but also with the right experience and that's why I think someone like Reina would fit the bill.

"The rumours are very, very strong around Old Trafford with this. A lot of goalkeepers are mentioned, but Reina seems to be the one that fits in the team and if he ever was to leave Liverpool, which again there is a big, big rumour he will, Manchester United would be a great club for him to come to.

"I hope that someone like Pepe Reina will go to United when Edwin calls it a day and I hear rumours that he is going to leave Liverpool so for him to go to Man Utd would be very, very good for us."

Schmeichel also criticised Manchester City's transfer policy, claiming that they need to build a foundation at the club.

The Dane kept goal for both clubs during his career, but made his name as one of the world's best at Old Trafford, and has watched events at Eastlands unfold, amid reports of dressing room unrest and the very visible on-pitch bust-up between Emmanuel Adebayor and Vincent Kompany against Wolves. Now he thinks he sees where they have gone wrong.

"If you see what they're doing, they're just buying, buying, buying, and they're buying problems," he was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail. "They have so many problems in that squad and that will continue.

"We [Manchester United] don't have that problem because we build a foundation and we build. That's been going on for 25 years and that's why we have that level of consistent performance. That's the policy of the football club and I like that."

i like the part where he says "WE"

Sorry Schmikes, there's no way the dippers will sell us such an important part of their squad.

never say never, premier league is going to change transfer wise over the next few seasons, these club rivalries wont spill over into transfers.

I think it's quite safe to do so here, mate.

Liverpool will not sell Reina to us. IF it's true he wants to leave, and he forces a sale, they'll only sell him to a foreign team. He's got a six year contract, the club hold the cards here and why would they sell to us? They wont, and quite rightly too imo.

I think its just paper talk but saying that it's been going on for a while

Can you imagine the reaction of the pool fans? No way would they sell to United, no way would he want to join United. Plus, I dont want him here

Pepe Reina today dismissed media reports claiming he has told Roy Hodgson he wants to leave Liverpool.

The Spain international exclusively told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I have seen a newspaper has made this suggestion. It is completely untrue.

"I have not told the manager that I wish to leave in January, or at any other time. It is important our fans know this.

"I have a long-term contract at Liverpool and I am fully committed to the club.

"Our new owner met me and some of the other players last week and I was very happy with what he told me."

Reina, who has played in 18 of the Reds' 21 games this season, added: "The entire squad and staff are working very hard to get us back competing at the top of the table. We will not be distracted by inaccurate media speculation."

The dismissal is from him though not just the club, the stories have been a load of crap.

Reina ready to join Manchester United

Pepe Reina has admitted that he would love to leave Liverpool to move to arch-rivals Manchester United.

In a stunning development, the Anfield custodian has refused to rule out a move to take over Edwin van der Sar after this season at Old Trafford, according to reports in the Sun.

When probed about his interest in a move to United on Spanish radio station Onda Cero, Reina admitted: "Yes, well Van der Sar will hang up his gloves in the summer so of course they are looking.

"I can't do anything. I can't say anything logically as I have a contract with Liverpool.

"Of course one likes to fight for titles and be in a team that does that.

"We always fought to be in the Champions League and try to win the title.

"But unfortunately it hasn't been the case in the last couple of years."

The Spaniard admitted he would look for a move away from the club if Liverpool failed to nab a UEFA Champions League place again this season.

Reina said: "I won't lie, I want to play in the Champions League and challenge for titles.

Further reports indicate that Sir Alex Ferguson could pay the £20 million in the Spanish World Cup winner's get-out clause at Anfield in order to secure the goalkeeper.

I have it out ... would be my choice of any keeper other than VDS out there.
