Pedro | Signs new contract until 2019

I genuinely think he'd be half the player once he hasn't got Barca's system around him - the same way that nobody who leaves Arsenal ever really reaches those same heights again (barring RvP of course :D)

It would make no sense for Barca to get rid of him. He is versatile, always works for the team, has been with the club since he was 17.

I see what you mean. I'd still take him though.

Well that's that, Zubi in his pressy today said Pedro is not for sale

He'll obviously still get a lot of playing time next year but if Barca end up buying Suarez, Pedro won't start the big games. I can't imagine them dropping Suarez, Neymar or Messi & you'd have to think he'd know that as well.

and that Alexis is :(

Yep. I suppose I can understand why Lucho would choose to do this too, preferring Pedro who's a cantera player...Nothing perhaps against Sanchez in the end since they needed to move at least one wide player. Just think the club is going with heart over talent here although Sanchez suffers from being able to bring more money in a sale

that's indeed the problem, incorrect decision imo.

Throw in Deulofeu too. But I suspect Lucho's objective will be more rotation since fitness/pressing etc. will be a major theme to his plans

It's always a debated point, even among Barcelona fans. I empathize with both sides of the argument but if you subscribe to the ethos of the club it's all about the cantera. No one will fight more for you and it's won the club plenty in the process, even if it means moving a talent like Alexis. Which, in the long run, looks to be a better move for his career anyway as his best position now clearly is the same one as Messi - Barcelona need a right sided player who will score goals

I don't think that has much to do with sentimentality, I bet they would sell Pedro and leave Sanchez if they got good offers for Pedro like they did for Sanchez. They didn't think with their heart when they sold Fabregas who is from La Massia and bought Rakitic and earned some money in process.

Both Pedro and Alexis are for sale and in both cases the club has denied they are. Deulofeu and Adama next season will be their subs.

Cesc asked to be sold so he was told to bring in a decent offer and Chelsea was the only one interested.

Sorry, but I don't get that. They are for sale but they are not for sale.

Anyway, my opinion is based after I saw this:

Zubizarreta: "There have been offers for Alexis, we'll see what will happen. Pedro is not for sale."

Demand and supply principle. Do you expect them to say: 'We want to get rid of both players, please make some high bids'? Few days ago Bartomeu said Alexis is not for sale.

Well, considering that two Barca fans in this thread said that it means that Alexis is for sale, I have reason to believe it. Anyway, I am not saying it's certain they'll sell him, but if they do, it will be because they are getting much more money for Alexis than they would for Pedro, not because Pedro is homegrown player.

You are completely right. While both players are on the market I think they will only sell one of Alexis or Pedro and keep the other on the bench/rotation. Being Alexis the one with higher valuation/interest it will probably be him. Also, Pedro has lower wages, can play winger both sides equally, and don't think he minds being benched as much as Alexis may.

If Barca hadn't had the transfer ban he'd probably be looking for a move now, as things stand they couldn't replace him so unless they have someone to promote from within their ranks (Delofeu, Munir, Traore?) he will stay for another season before inevitably moving somewhere else. He used to be brilliant around 2010-12, then they replaced him with Neymar and now Suarez which limited his chances. He still has it in him to perform well IMO, just not at Barcelona, I certainly wouldn't mind him here as he appears to have some of the qualities we're missing in our current squad.

We were just probably stalking his twitter profile and accidentally followed him. Easy mistake to make.

I can't believe something as innocuous as that creates any kind of discussion

I could see us being after him in the summer. Surely he'll want the chance at first team football, and he has no chance of breaking the Barca front three.

Di Maria - Rooney - Pedro

Would provide everything a front tbere needs, and I doubt Pedro would cost more than £25m max.

Like him, but don't think he would be half a success as Sanchez has been somehow, and would probably cost as much if not slightly more.

Had a really good game against Levante the other day (My MoTM despite Messi's hattrick) alot of talk of him actually being converted as a fullback at Barca. He's got great workrate, speed and efficient with his decision making.

Obviously he was part of the 09 side which tore us apart, with the passing system we have going at the moment; he'd certainly be familiar to it and would slot straight in.

Looks like Memphis Depay is the favoured candidate though.

Good upgrade on Valencia, would add some pace into the squad and would fit right in to the Spanish speaking clique.

Having said that, there is literally nothing linking us with him. Actually prefer the idea of Depay though, boy is going places.
