In reply to the comment about him losing his place to Suárez, it's worth mentioning that even before Suárez returned...Pedro lost his place a few times to Munir.

Are you talking about early last season? These are his La Liga appearances for the last 5 seasons according to Transfermarkt:

14/15
Squad: 38, Starting eleven: 15, Substituted in: 20, On the bench: 3, Suspended: 0, Injured: 0

13/14
Squad: 37, Starting eleven: 28, Substituted in: 9, On the bench: 0, Suspended: 0, Injured: 0

12/13
Squad: 35, Starting eleven: 23, Substituted in: 5, On the bench: 7, Suspended: 0, Injured: 0

11/12
Squad: 32, Starting eleven: 20, Substituted in: 9, On the bench: 3, Suspended: 0, Injured: 0

10/11
Squad: 35, Starting eleven: 24, Substituted in: 9, On the bench: 2, Suspended: 0, Injured: 0

Aye, tallies with what I remember. Only last season was he a pure bench warmer but a lot of his seasons previous had him as a rotation player.

Fitness was always great so he was always in the squad. Though I'm dubious about the injured: 0 part, he did have a few minor injury problems.

Pedro made the 10th most starts in the Barcelona team in his breakthrough season. In the following three seasons he made the 8th/9th most starts in the team and in Luis Enrique's first season he started more games than ever. It's patently untrue to say he progressively became more of a squad player prior to Suárez joining.

EDIT: I for some reason decided Luis Enrique and Neymar joined the club at the same time...swap Luis Enrique for Tata Martino.

@Bob Loblaw canonballs fired.

Marca are saying he'll play his final game for Barca, today. Source: crying woman from the other day.

You've forgotten about Martino, that was their manager who picked Pedro the most. Luis Enrique has only been their manager for one season.

Pedro is no downgrade; at 28 still at his peak, & been a crucial member of arguably greatest club side of all time. Should thrive at #MUFC

He's a legendary player at one very particular thing, being a wing forward and racing onto through balls, finishing the chance. He's spookily good at putting the ball past the keeper. Like all of barces youth products, they play the same style and system all the way through the ranks, and they are tailor made for that position in that system.

He reminds me of Freddy Ljunberg a little bit, what with those darting runs into the box from the wing, finishing well etc

Pedro is a downgrade in terms of individual quality, that's a certainty. In terms of performance and overall contribution to the team, then he is an upgrade. Sort of a paradox, but the fact is Di Maria did not want to be here and seemed to sulk his way through his time here. So despite being a world class player (a level above Pedro), he was mostly just crap for us. He couldn't dislodge Ashley Young on the wing -- nothing against Young, but that speaks volumes.

This may hold if both di Maria and Pedro are playing at full potential. However the di Maria we saw playing for us, never reached that and even at Real he was highly inconsistent. That is what I like about Pedro, his consistency. For me it will be an upgrade, especially considering di Maria never even wanted to be here.

He's only a downgrade on paper and video games basically, on the pitch he's almost certain to be an upgrade.

In Luis Enrique's first season he was benched...
In this season, yes of course.

In the previous one:

Alexis: matches played 52 (36 as a starter, 16 as substitute); minutes played 3385 (3015 as starter, 370 as substitute)
Pedro: matches played 52 (37 as a starter, 15 as substitute); minutes played 3351 (3063 as starter, 288 as substitute)

Not much betwen them.

It was both of them sharing the right wing position, while at times both of them starting instead of Neymar (mostly at beginning of the season IIRC).

Obviously, last season Neymar and Suarez started mostly, but then again, they are better players than anyone in EPL.

I can't help make a disappointed facial expression every time I hear this guys name.

Well I am more than sure it will not take long for him to grow on you.

I think he will become a very popular player at Utd

Hope we have him before the Newcastle game, cos I will be in attendance that day

what was the goal tally of alexis compared to pedro?
In all comps, Pedro had 13, 10 and 19 compared to 15, 11 and 21 from Sanchez. He scored 22 and 23 in all comps the two years before sanchez came though.

Sanchez is a better player and more of an individual, but Pedro can be an excellent player for us as well and will provide us with a lot of things missing from our attack, like the goal threat and pace (and good decision making up front actually, instead of blindly crossing it always).

That would be great. :D

So, where do you guys think LVG is going to play him, I bet he is the CB signing for the season.

Not based off much but I have a horrible feeling he will just turn out to be like Jesus Navas.

He's miles better then Navas. Thats just a lazy comparison cos both are fast and Spanish.

Pretty much. Hope you right. I honestly haven't seen that much of him as he's often a sub in the big games (don't get to watch much Barca games).

Stating again for Barca today...not really a sign that a transfer is 'imminent'

That's not even a good comparison. It's like comparing luke Shaw with Danny Murphy just because both are full backs and played for England

No shame in being benched for Messi, Neymar and Suarez. Pedro will be a great addition if he comes, and if he is used correctly. As for injuries, it happens with players who are fast, they tend to have more muscle injuries and stuff.

True, I think they'd ideally like to keep him until after their Super Cup games as has been reported.

I really don't get this supposed desperation with keeping him until after the Super Cup tbh.

I hope a deal is close, but with him continuing to play in their friendlies, it doesn't seem as sure fire as the media are reporting.

I think it's just Neymar and Messi aren't yet match fit, Turan can't yet play etc.

Hope it's close too. I don't think he'll start for us on Sat even if he signs this week but would be nice option on the bench with a view to starting at Villa perhaps.

Really hope this guy is as tough as nails and will be able to hack it physically and mentally, if he can show his best Barca form for us he'll be a massive upgrade on ADM, even though he is most likely an inferior player.
