Young is a squad player. His strengths are not being used if we don't play a dominant aereal presence in the forward positions. Memphis has to play on the left and a new forward thinking and hard working player needs to brought in to replace di maria. Signing Pedro is well and good but he would be competition for mata and depay. We need a forward who can play with Rooney, offer a serious goal threat but also perform defensive duties. Reus would have been great but he's been lazy defensively off late. People don't consider Pastore to be a forward but I think he would be ideal for that position.

Easier said than done is exactly it, especially given the size of Rooney's contract. If we could have gotten a Benzema or Lewnadowski I think we'd see the midfield 3 mos tof us would like to see.

I think it's more a case of Memphis having a much better goal record than anyone else we could play there in the current squad and having more pace and power than Mata which is key centrally in the PL.

Well I know your right in that Depay will play there but I hope you're wrong. Given the midfielders we now have - Carrick, Schneiderlin, Schweinstegier, Herrera, and to a lesser extent Fellaini, it is criminal to only play two of them at any given time, whilst not playing Depay over Young in what is likely to be his better position.

The need for a top striker is huge.

I agree it's frustrating, we finally have the ideal components for a midfield 3 and a proper wide forward for the left of a front 3, but we can't play the 4-3-3 as we don't have the right type of #9, so we bench our most creative CM and move our bright new wide player into a role he's never played in order to compensate.

It's just bonkers, you really hope we make a push for someone before the window closes, although then you have the issue of what to do with Rooney...

And weakened his negotiating position. If his contract had been running down, there would be more pressure to get something for him, but now that it runs until 2019, they have none.

You're assuming the player wasn't aware of this never mind complicit, you'd be wrong

I think he's going to surprise a few people if United sign him. Neat little player to have in the team. And the fee banded about is also a plus in today's market. Torres cost 3 times as much...

it's the Barca board you talking about. They don't like to sell for too much.

So he is an idiot. Deliberately weakening his own hand to benefit the club so they have enough money to pay for prostitutes for the next Neymar's dad isn't an intelligent thing to do. Maybe he's a naive altruist.

If they inserted £22m clause and apparently they have (or even £15m) then he's not really restricted himself here.

Except they spelled out it's still €150m. The "agreement" that is supposed to exist doesn't seem to be a part of his contract but rather a gentlemen's agreement, which is effectively worthless.

If this is true then indeed he hasn't done too well there.

Not really stupid. He was covering his bases probably. He didn't want a valdes situation where he would end up neither here nor there. what if he doesn't renew and no club that he wants come to sign him? I don't think he will want to go to stoke or something.

I don't think Barca are like Perez or levy. They take their words seriously. They didn't force Sanchez to go to Liverpool last season even though it would have been cheaper for them if he had

That is not the same though is it. If the player doesn't want to go you can't force them.

Most cantera kids are not gloryhunters like Cesc, just sayin

There was a 50/50 tonight against Chelsea and Ivanovic just swatted him off the ball
Pedro comes across a type of player who will not stop trying regardless of situations like this. At least he will try harder than di Maria. Besides, Ivanovic is one of the better defenders in premier league and overall too. So, such incident are not necessarily indicative of how Pedro will do PL.

Only player I have seen win a battle with Ivanovic is our very own Valencia, I wouldn't judge a players strength against him.

I hate this waiting around stuff....If we're in for anyone we really need to start acting quick to get them settled into the squad. If we're getting anyone now i doubt they'll be ready for the first game of the season and will have to be bedded into the team. I hope this Pedro rumour is true.

More surprisingly, Nani has done it too. Couldn't believe my eyes.

Ivanovic is a walking tank.

There was also a break for Barça when Pedro twisted and turned Branislav to a knot .. So as we already knew Ivanovic is strong but Pedro tricky .

Didn't the Secret Footballer say something like running into Valencia was like being hit by a brick wall?

hardman my ass

Starting to doubt this. If he was to come, he would've by now, surely? I don't buy this Supercopa nonsense. Nobody gives a feck about it.

Not really.

We won't sign him until Di Maria is gone most likely.

Plenty of reports saying we want to get rid of Di Maria first before bringing him in. If we brought him in first then we would have replaced Di Maria without selling him so PSG could low ball us probably, or we'd end up overstocked with both unnecessarily. My guess at least.

Beginning to hope the club keep the player until January owing to the 'conveniently' organised Primera schedule ahead of January and the lifting of the transfer ban.

Under normal circumstances if a cantera player asks for a transfer, the club does its best to honour the player's wishes. But this is not a normal board so hard to gauge

So we want to pay 25, but not 30m Euros? Probably bullshit from the Barca papers anyway.

He is cheap enough, dont think the price is negotiable.

It's fairly obvious nothing will happen until ADM moves... not sure why anyone would expect anything to happen before then.

I reckon it's one that we're confident we can wrap up pretty quickly if/when the time comes.

I think the price quoted is ridiculous. Faus is an idiot, is he part of new administration?

I don't think we would be overstocked, with this 4-2-3-1 and Depay as the 10 we could just play Angel di Maria / Depay / Pedro, it's not like we want to sell Angel but we respect his wishes to leave, we should asking for a fee of £50m, that's fair.
