If Pedro has been available since he signed a new contract back in June, why didn't Bayern go for him? We know Guardiola rates him highly, but they went for Douglas Costa for a similar fee.

Are we over-hyping Pedro? Is Douglas Costa the better player?
Why didnt anyone buy Reus when he had a release clause of 25m? Bayern should have been all over that but for some reason n-one took up the option. Some players fit different systems and maybe Pedro was asked but didnt fancy the German league. Costa is also younger than Pedro and offers something different, who knows Barcelona may not want to sell anyone else to Bayern and Pep.

There's no guarantee that Pedro will start at Bayern if everyone is fit. If there is a possibility that he may have to sit on the bench than he may as well stay at Barcelona.

We need to be signing this guy.

Read a lot about him on here, people saying he's just a Spanish Aaron Lennon etc but he is so much more. And for people saying he isnt as good as Di Maria. The Di Maria of Madrid, No your right. But the Di Maria we saw last season was so poor, i think even Aaron Lennon would be an improvement.
Pedro would offer our attack something that i don't think Di Maria could.

Interesting that Marca are saying Pedro might be our last signing of the summer.

Seems that we havent even made a bid for Pedro. So could be interesting on who LVG will be bringing in if it isnt Pedro.

Adnan is going to be groomed as a striker and while I like the prospect of Pereira he has about 10 minutes of PL experience under his belt. All not getting Pedro means is more Young and Mata on the wings.

It isn't a big deal to make a bid. We saw it with Schneiderlin too. We made contact and then didn't return for ages driving people nuts. Only for us to go in swoop him hours before we left for tour and blow our frickin minds away. Barca have put the price as non negotiable. Pedro wants the move, we don't have competition. We are waiting for PSG to agree the details of the deal with di Maria before we sign a replacement probably

Memphis will play wide left. Later in his career he may play 10

He's played all 3 tour games as a #10 and both him and LvG have talked of forming a partnership with Rooney, we are using him there to make up for what Rooney lacks. Young will be wide left unless we buy someone.

Yep. Pretty sure Young will be on the left which will leave Memphis in withdrawn position behind Wayne and Mata on the right.

And LvG has already openly said that is not good enough to challenge the best, so hopefully him and Woodward have something brewing.

While I agree it seems likely I'd much rather see Mata in the 10 with Pedro right and Depay left.

I'm sure there are plenty of deal on the burner, that are contingent on us moving players on and the selling clubs not attempt to gouge us on the fees. Pedro would be a quality signing for this summer - depth, experience, winning mentality, another friend for our resident Spanish speakers. Would be a smart buy since we're pretty much guaranteed to not go through the year without various players getting injured.

I am sure we will try, LvG making such a bold comment suggests as much unless you believe the theory he's getting the excuses in early. Pedro isn't that level of player but he's a good player and would instantly upgrade Young or Mata on the wing if he can hack it physically.

Where does Herrera fit in with all this?

The bench trying to convince LvG he can start over Schneiderlin.

I think people are underselling Young's effectiveness.

Not really, he's an average player who offers next to no goal threat and whose main idea of creativity is pumping an inward cross into the box. His hard work helping the fullback is his biggest asset.

:( I want both Herrera and Schneiderlin in our team at the same time.

LvG must have some serious faith in Depay's ability if his thinking is to give him this golden position long term, whilst benching the fans favourite.

I think it has more do with him doubting Rooney as the lone #9 given his poor first touch and erratic link up play. Memphis offers a more pacey, direct threat than Ander centrally so he'll play as the #10 to try and offset Rooney's weaknesses.

I think we may well see Memphis on the left with Adnan/Andreas on the right with Herrera as the number 10 and any two of Bastiaan, Michael and Morgan behind them

If that's the case we really should be looking to upgrade Rooney, easier said than done though I guess.

That aside LvG must have alot of faith on the lad to be able to make a flagging Rooney still work.

Easier said than done is exactly it, especially given the size of Rooney's contract. If we could have gotten a Benzema or Lewnadowski I think we'd see the midfield 3 mos tof us would like to see.

I think it's more a case of Memphis having a much better goal record than anyone else we could play there in the current squad and having more pace and power than Mata which is key centrally in the PL.

To be fair he is a winger, that's his job Putting in crosses. In most of our games in the second half of the season, he seemed the only one who could create a chance on many occasions. His issue till last season was that he cut into his right 99% of the time. He reduced that to about 80% now :p

 He is an old fashioned winger that is true, but we aren't playing that way anymore and the game has moved on, the fullbacks are the source of most crossing in the top teams these days, the wide forwards are there to link with the striker and score goals.

Young's played well however, he's doing a lot of defensive work because teams don't overly fear him. We need much greater end results or are we saying we cannot do better? Loyalty is a great thing but with Rooney being the main striker, we need the width to contribute much more.

It's harsh? Yes it is. But it's up to young to get the goals and assists that's he's not. His best goalscoring season for us was his first.

I think people are underselling Young's effectiveness.
4 goals and 9 assists in the past 3 seasons. Last season alone Mata had 10 goals and Di Maria 13 assists from the wing and they both spent time out of the team, Young never seems to get those sort of numbers despite being one of our highest paid players.

He's been effective on the left though - its rare when the opposing RB doesn't have their hands full dealing with him. He just needs to stay healthy.

Nothing idiotic about it, his transfer has been in discussion since last season - the renewal simply improved the club's negotiating position

And weakened his negotiating position. If his contract had been running down, there would be more pressure to get something for him, but now that it runs until 2019, they have none.

Where does Herrera fit in with all this?
In midfield. He's our most unique and important midfielder in terms of play style, and most talented one overall IMO. He's a level above schneiderlin so I'm hoping he isn't dropped to the bench long term for a Schneiderlin - Carrick pairing

They don't have that much trouble given he rarely scores and has a low assist tally for a wide attacker, we need an upgrade in goal threat and creativity out on the left as much as we need some pace on the right.
