Paulo Dybala

I get that too. I don't think it would unreasonable for us to set a deadline (especially with the window closing so soon). I just think Dybala is one of those signings that you aren't planning for but try to capitalise on when it becomes clear that there's a possibility. Therefore I don't think we're in a rush. I don't think we were looking for a 10 or second striker but changed tack when Dybala suddenly became a possibility. So if Dybala doesn't join I don't see us going for option B.
I meant a replacement for Lukaku, we would need a more proven attacker if he leaves, Dybala while not being the type of striker Lukaku is can provide a solid replacement albeit a different type of player.

This is the problem. Madrid have just as shite season as we do but finish a comfortable third while we're sixth.

We were well on course to finish in ucl football until Woodwards pathetic handling of Ander herrera's and de gea's contract and injury to Herrera wrecked our balance of the midfield and killed our momentum both offensively and defensively as pogba was asked to play deeper to accommodate the absence of Herrera, and he downed tools.

So Dybala wants to chat with Sarri, yet this WHOLE thing was started by Sarri's alleged media mouth piece saying Dybala does not have a role in his squad. :wenger::lol:

I think people are too quick to forget that footballers are just normal human beings with the same sorts of day to day emotions as anyone else. If you were very happily employed and settled in a city you love with family and friends around you and you found out that your employer was likely letting you go, would you shrug your shoulders and move to wherever they would like you to go or would you demand a talk with your manager first?

Personally I'd be having that face to face with my manager first because even if I didn't manage to change their mind, I wouldn't want to miss the opportunity to tell them they are a cnut and I hope they're also sacked before Christmas.

actually that post was directed at the posters here that think something drastically changed with those comments and pointing out that dybala having a chat means nothing in the reality of this deal considering what Sarri has allegedly told his media guy.

100% agree about the Dybala seeking clarification. I just think this is Fabrizio and Kristof rehashing the same content from 12 hours ago.

It’s a lot harder to sign players when they don’t want to come to you.

So the situation so I’m clear, is that Ole doesn’t want to play with a big man up top (so that’s Lukaku finished here). We’re happy to sell and he’s happy to leave, but neither of the two Italian clubs linked with him have met our valuation.

If Rom leaves, we need a replacement. It’s too late in the day to shop around which leaves Dybala and Mandzukic as our only options. Problem is that it seems like Dybala doesn’t want to come here. Mandzukic would probably join for a nice end-of-career payday and for a change of pace. Neither scenario is ideal.

If Dybala has no interest in coming then we should just forget it. I don’t feel like we’re in a good situation here.

Why so many people care if Dybala wants to come? It’s an efficient way to offload Lukaku first and foremost.

We were never on course to finish in top 4. It was just euphoria after winning 12 or so games, but everything was suggesting that it was just a purple patch and totally unsustainable. We came back to reality soon.

It seems a lot of people know that he doesn't want to come here. Can someone point me to where he's said this or a credible report that states this?

the whole "he wants to talk to Sarri first" is super weird anyway. Like how haven't they done that already, haven't these people heard of phones?!

Just a reminder for folks, if Pedulla was given info from Sarri, Sarri DOES NOT WANT DYBALA, he wants lukaku.

It's also gone from he doesn't want to join us, to he's seriously looking at our offer now and realises the problem is with the club, not the manager.
He must know now that no matter what he does, he's not going to get them to change their minds

Di Marzio said 12 hours ago that we are negotiating image rights. Yet somehow Dybala is now on a mission to convince Sarri?

Again, I think Kristof and Fabrizio are top rate journalists, but it feels like they are just rehashing their stories from 12 hours ago.

I really wanted us to go for him before he signed for juve based on his potential but any full match I’ve seen him play for them he’s not actually been that good. Seems to get easily marked out of big games. Hes much better technically than lukaku of course but I don’t see him hitting any more goals for us than Rom managed. In short I think he’ll give fans a different set of frustrations. The hope is he’ll be able to bring our other good players into the match more. I hope to god we aren’t going to play him on the right.

Yup, i agree. I just don't see what he can do to convice Sarri. Personally i don't think it's Sarri that needs convincing, it's the board and higher ups. They want him gone, and Sarri isn't going to go against them at all.

Things can move fast with it being late in the window

Agree, I think this will move fast. Pedulla was clear that Sarri/Juve wants an out-and-out striker. Sarri gets a core striker, we get a target Ole would never have dreamed of getting this window. The idea Sarri will be won over by "but i can play in another position" likely means nothing. Swapping players fill a spot Sarri wants to fill.

Unless we are all missing some key fact that no one is mentioning, Dybala is going to ask sorely disappointed by Sarri's response.

Did he really? I thought it was general talk about potential problems due his current lawsuit not about us negotiating image rights?

Dybala would immediately improve your squad. I always thought the criticisn of Lukaku in here was very harsh and that he was generally a much better player than he was getting credit for but he's no Dybala. I believe many people's perception is influenced by his last season in which he losrlt his role in the squad to a certain Cristiano Ronaldo. The season before that he scored 20+ goals while also being Juve's main playmaker.

I also don't understand Juve. I'd say Dybala fits much better to Sarri than Lukaku but who knows what they're planning. That's bold management, they essentially build the squad around a soon to be 35 year old superstar while selling the guy who's in his mid twenties and was always thought of as the future of the club.

This is what I think as well. We'll have to settle for Lukaku this season.

Monday the last day, after is too late, paper and burocracy need its time

I think this transfer session Is closed, a good session with awb, james, and maguire

well they will be Mandzukic short, and Moise Kean short leaving them possibly needing 2

Mandzukic and Kean were bench players, who barely played last season. If you sign Icardi or Higuain they expect to start and you cannot play both of them together especially with Ronaldo. They also still have Higuain.

We have addressed our problems in defense. We still haven’t in attack. We need Dybala/Fernandes or preferably both.

I agree and Lukaku isn't as bad as bad as we make him out to be. Him and Rashford need at least 20 goals a piece if we are to do well and challenge for the top spots this season.

I think this will be sorted we just need to be patient for some things to be dealt with.

The image rights is a handy way to minimise a players tax exposure but in Dybala's case he has complex legal case ongoing so we will have to word the agreement carefully to ensure payments from us don't get mired in his existing dispute.

I would also hope we are offering him and his family lots of support to find houses and amenities to suit him, given he has so many roots in Italy. That's the sort of thing we used to have a great reputation for under Sir Alex.

If the deal falls through I suspect it won't be about money but about making him feel welcome. Something we shouldn't be failing at!

if we don't get dybala it's already been suggested by journos like Kristof Terreur that Ole will look at playing Sanchez as the main striker before lukaku. Lukaku will be a bench rider for the majority of the season. Ole doesn't want to play a system that favours lukaku's strengths.

If doesn't happen nothing in the next 36 hrs I have some doubts

B.Fernandes could have be signed 4 months ago...a strange matter, probably he is a second choice

I don’t think he was. I think it’s our fault. We usually try and haggle for 5-10m every time. And it has even taken his deal down the wire. He wasn’t second choice till Tuesday when the Dybala news broke.

Once he gets here, the stadium, the facilities and the fans will sway him providing others don't poison his mind first.

My worry is more for Mata, Lingard etc... signed up to contracts and really should not get a sniff as long as Dybala is fit
We've got a chance of playing 60 odd games this season. Even if we bring in Dybala and Bruno and don't sell anybody everybody will get game time. Especially with us playing Thursday-Sunday for long stretches of the season.
