All fair points. If we do persist with the system of past few months then I would definitely feel more comfortable if we had a player like Dybala next to Rashford. The only other players I could think of for the role is Griezmann or Felix who are more or less, unattainable for the price. Maybe Ziyech?

But my stance was always that we lacked a proper good right sided forward. It's really been neglected and perhaps I don't know better than past great United sides but it's just so odd for me to see a non existent right winger stretching the pitch at this club. Albeit, this can be resolved if we had a strong right back but there lies another issue to solve.
 
If we go down the false 9 route, we should sign him.

For me it depends on how Ole wants us to set up. But I am surprised at some of the same people saying they don't want Dybala cause he does not fit but want us to sign Felix.

Because Felix looks like a player who can make the step up to striker role. He looked at home in that role against Frankfurt for example. His movement and positioning looks good too. He's also good in the air. However he's not strong on the ball but could be when his body eventually fill out whereas Dybala looks like a SS through and through. There are SS who can't make the step up to a striker role e.g Griezmann, Muller etc. I think Dybala is in the same category. I don't fancy his movement too. It's good but not very good.
 
If Pogba leaves, then he would be a welcome addition. We need that X player !
 
It seems that we are going to lose De Gea, Pogba, Herrera, Martial and Lukaku... So I hope we can sign Dybala. I guess Juventus is going to replace him with Chiesa/Felix.

Which "realistic" forward do you prefer over Dybala?
 
False 9 could be frightening on the counter. Pepe reminds me of Henry.

No what we need is a complete teams. Having that "x factor" is pretty pointless when you are forced to play lower mid table standard positions in half the starting 11 every week.

He's never played like Robben. He's not a right winger. He's not a right inside forward. That's just not his style of play. Getting him to play on our right wing would be a classic example of poor decision making, exactly the type we've been culpable of under Woodward.
 
This club is losing it's shit completely. It's ridiculous how incompetent the club and all it's board members have become. Apart from the crappy results, one reason why Moyes wasn't given a chance was that he wasn't going to attract the best players. We find ourselves in the same situation. Ole doesn't have a world class managerial reputation and now that we are in the Europa league, I don't see us attracting the players unless we throw crazy money at the clubs while also inflating their wages... which puts us in the same Sanchez-esque position. I've having second thoughts if at this point in time, getting Ole may cost us the signings that would get us back to where we belong and if you couple that with crappy signings... not sure we are going to have a successful summer.

I also heard that Lingard's interview was tampered with by United officials and certain portions of his interview where he mentioned the concern of attracting world-class players was deleted.

They were probably talking about that but that's also entirely true. Dybala has had a few good seasons but he's also been mostly unfulfilled potential, given what the hype was like.

Dybala was Juve’s player of the season in 2017/18

His decline began this season.
 
In my opinion, he’s either gone crap or just not interested in playing because he wants to move away from Juve. In either case, I don’t want us getting involved. Last thing we need in a highly paid inconsistent superstar who loses interest easily.

But I don’t watch Serie A and happy to be corrected.
 
We need a forward who can pass and move and has actual quality and he's 25. Tough to pass up.
 
He could be great behind Rashford and hopefully Pepe. If we sign a top fullback we could play a dynamic 4312.

It's crazy how many people don't want us to sign him, top player at a good age. :rolleyes:

Because we have had signings that haven’t worked it is no reason to start targeting lesser players. If Liverpool don’t win the league this year, I’m sure people will think they are a more appealing team than us. Is that just because they ‘play better football?’ They are a team that hasn’t won anything major for longer than us. I think a lot of our fears are in our heads. Top clubs will attract top players, and after that - both parties need to match each other’s ambitions going forward. Every top player can’t be at Real or Barca.

Nothing against the player and these 'jewel in the crown' type players are absolutely right when you have the right crown to start with. We need a good foundation first before we think about bringing in Pogba et al type players and having Smalling, Young, Shaw, Matic, Mata, Jones and maybe even Martial and Rom, isn't going to give you that. I look at the Liverpool team and on paper, you wouldn't take 60% of those players and they sold their jewel in the crown but were better for it.
As said at the end of each season, let's get rid of the dead wood before thinking that buying that type of quality is going to change our fortunes when clearly it's proven it isn't.

It seems like a 4312/41212 diamond is Ole's go-to formation in most of the big or tougher games. I think it works well, but recently it has been let down by poor finishing and fitness. If we are really interested in Dybala, it could also be due to Sancho being off the market by Dortmund and Lukaku's recently grumbles and desires to go play in Serie A, not to mention Bruno Fernandes seemingly going to City.

Dybala will be a superb option in a diamond formation, either as a 10 behind the 2 strikers, or as part of the strike duo. Heck, even as a lone striker in a 433, I think he is better than any of our present options as well.
 
One of the things he’s bloody good at is holding on to the ball up top, something we’ve missed for ages now. With rashford running off him, he could be a great signing. Reallt baffled at people’s apprehensions here.

Agreed, he has that tenacity that Tevez used to have despite not being the largest forward around. Someone here mentioned Pepe and Dybala to replace Lukaku if he leaves. Think that will be a great option - a "front 2" of Pepe and Rashford who can peel wide to the flanks, with Dybala just behind them.
 
This type of signing stinks. He’s not consistent, doesn’t score enough and is hopelessly overrated. No thanks.
 
Dybala is a dilemma. He can lead the line. That's the role he played in at Palermo. His dribbling and goal conversion is excellent. However he lack the physical presence to play in that role which is why Allegri moved him further down.

Unfortunately his contribution isn't that great. He isn't a lazy player but his skills on that matter is a bit lacking. Dybala will never head the ball and his passing is good but needs to work upon. That means he will be less effective the more you move him down the pitch.

If you ask me his best role is that of number 10 just behind a powerful striker like Lukaku. A narrow 4-3-3 system with Pogba, a hardworking box to box midfielder and Matic in midfield with Dybala and Rashford behind the main striker could do the trick.
 
Like all signings there would be risk involved. However, if we do with the diamond or split forwards that we’ve been playing then Dybala is a definite upgrade on Lingard in that central role.

He could also form a fluid front three with Sancho and Rashford where all three could interchange. There has been some talk of Ole wanting a more mobile forward.

There is also a chance you would be buying low and he bounces back. As others have said Real sold the likes of Sneijder and Robben and they went on to do very well. It’s not like other teams can’t fail to get the best out of their players.
 
I'm sceptical. He clearly has a lot of qualities. But is he really what we need at the moment? There are other areas we need to improve first.
