All that said he is lucky that in the last two games both midfields have decided not to press him, not that I'm complaining or anything I just thought people might know better than to give him space.

To be fair, teams at OT will always sit back in defend in numbers in their half. In games like those he's a terrific option to have. But you're right, it will be interesting to see how he copes in games with little space.e

Its hard and tiresome for the opposition when we play both him and Carrick. Thats two players who arent the most comfortable under pressure, but then again its two players who are excellent at making themselves available. That, coupled with the fact that they can always play the ball back to our back 4 and it becomes nigh impossible for a midfield like Stoke's to apply the needed pressing.

Masterclass.

Hope those 6 months off give us another strong 5.

It's quite brilliant how easy Scholes finds this football lark.

feck it i'm convinced Scholes has taken up 'yoga'. That man is unbelievable

I think he's doing exactly what we brought him back to do. He's a calming presence in the midfield, who can be trusted on the ball. He doesn't have to do anything special most of the time. Just give him the ball, and he'll very rarely lose it.

If Pog can be fast-tracked, we wont need another midfielder
Anderson-Carrick-Fletch-Clev-Pog-Scholes-Giggs .... Jones if needed

Scholes... please dont leave again..

Who needs a time machine when you have Scholes.

He'll be playing till he's 65. Superman

Maybe I'm completly wrong, but does he not look better now then he did at the back end of last season? His legs looked gone back then, whereas now he looks much fitter. Almost as if the 5 months of has actually helped him, allowed his body to recover a bit, get plenty of rest, and come back fresher and fitter?

Possibly. Last season he started the season in great form and won Player of the Month so it looks like the rest is what he needed.

He was beyond great, his speed of thought in his passing is better than ever. He doesn't pass to his collegues, he lends them the ball. And they can't wait to give it back to him, he's like a great conductor. We were Like Barcelona in our passing at times, and against Liverpool. And it's Scholes at the centre.

Was slightly concerned that the time off may have affected his timing in the tackle. Just saw that effort on Jones. Thankfully, it's at exactly the same level.

Starting to think this too, maybe SAF knows a thing or 2 more about football than I do. Who'd have thought it

Just re-read the first bunch of pages leading up to the match on the 8th in this thread... feck me some people were pessimistic about this...

Is there anybody left who's convinced that this was a bad move?

Has this lessened anybody's view of Paul Scholes? Is he no more a legend, but just a cracking player who came back after he was finished and who took up a space that should've been plugged by 50 million quid?

Man's still one of the classiest CMs in the world... I'll have him till he or Fergie calls time on his career. And they both get to change their mind as many times as they want.

They know if they commit themselves against Scholes they'll likely be out the game, either he'll dummy them and walk into sspace or he'll pass round them. They're scared of committing, and rightly so.

Er...who's more comfortable than under pressure than Paul Scholes? I can't think of many this side of the Pyrenees.

I'm thinking the same thing, half a season won't be enough knowing he'll just miss it again. I think he'll play until his legs go, who knows when that will be, it might be several years.

His legs went about three years ago, it just doesn't really matter

I would like him to find his long-range shooting again

He looks fresher than he has for a couple of seasons. He's going forward more. How much of that is down to enthusiasm and adrenaline remains to be seen.

I remember how good he was after that layoff he had when he had that vision problem - maybe this is the same

Plech: He had a decent shot go just wide today. Personally I'm more keen to see him do those quarterback 60 yard diagonals again

And I agree, the notion that he's suspect under pressure is ludicrous.

He's an actual genius. It's such a pleasure watching him, it's like watching an animal in the wild just being amazing at being an otter or whatever it was born to be.

At some point this season he will get sent off and cost us a game. But even that will be enjoyable in its way.
