A bit off the pace, just about cost us a goal, but really it's all about emotion today for me, it's a blessing to see him on the field.

Good for keeping the ball in general. Glad to have him back just because I love him. Not exactly at his best, but that's hardly surprising.

Same old. Great on the ball. Has no legs. Playing him in a midfield two away from home is madness. Thankfully Fergie realised that and brought on Ando.
Unfortunately that 1 misplaced pass cost us a goal.

About a 5 or 6 out of 10. Was okay after the mistake. Should be used very sparingly for the rest of the season.

Not Scholes rejoining the squad - no problem with that.
I hate that we put him on, for his first minutes back, against City.

Most importantly, Scholes has 30 minutes under his belt. We may need him in the league.
Rooney just said that the team didn't know he was coming back til they were in the dressing room today.
His return is a bad idea for me.

He was fine given that a) City is our toughest domestic away trip and b) he's not played a competitive game for 7 months.

Was rusty. Nice to have him but this game was a risky one to play him in. Just about paid off.
This is crazy. I was gutted after his testimonial. The thought of not seeing him play again was horrible.

That substitution changed the whole game and could well have cost us. Not a good idea bringing him back let alone bringing him on today.
He looked like someone who hadn't kicked a ball in 6 months but he was nowhere near shite.. kept it simple and used his experience, 1 heavy touch cost us a goal but apart from that I dont remember him doing too much wrong.
Improved a lot in the final 10 or 15 minutes and was a bit poor before that. Great to see him playing again but I don't really think he's the answer (even short term) to our midfield problems.
I thought that sloppy pass for their second aside he was good and grew into the game. He was calm under pressure and didn't do anything stupid and tbh it didn't take long for him to be the main man in the middle for us again. I think he came on too early but that wasn't his fault. Good to see him back.

That last 10 minutes or so showed his value - ball retention.

Legs are still gone, his movement was limited today, I do think SAF may have pulled off a little masterstroke. The players didn't find out until in the dressing room, might have been a little confidence boost. He obviously looked good on the ball but the key thing here is this is as close an admission you will get from SAF that our midfield isn't there at the moment, though that will depend on how temporary this is.
Two misplaced passes both resulted in City attacks. But he was fine in keeping the ball in the last minutes.
It woud've made better sense to take of Giggs instead of Nani though.

We bought him on too early. His value is his ability to slow the play and retain possession. This is great for hanging onto a lead in the last 15-20 mins.
But we slowed the game down far too early in the 2nd half.
I don't see it as a risk, I think he did a good job. A lot of players were poor in the 2nd half with their decision making, Scholes wasn't one of them and he moved the ball well with Carrick. I felt we sat way too deep with 11 vs 10. Scholes made a slight error from the throw in but Lindegaard should be saving that. Still worried by the 2nd half mind. To be fair City weren't closing us down, so Giggs and Scholes on the pitch shouldn't have been an issue.
I guess the silver lining to this is that Fergie acknowledges our midfield problem; if not a question of quality, at least one of quantity.
I blame Evra more than Scholesy for giving away the ball for the goal. You have to come out and take the pass and Evra was dreaming.
Thanks Chief, finally some wise words. As much as I love to see him return it's a bad idea. Our game became slow and predictable and it almost cost us the victory. We must move forward, not backward.

Brave man coming back. He has nothing to gain, and it's entirely for the clubs benefit. Got to admire him a lot for that.

We needed a new goalkeeper. No one can argue with that.
Jones was meant to be signed next summer, but Liverpool made a move and Fergie wasn't going to let a talent like that go elsewhere.
We only have Valencia and Nani as proper wingers apart from Young, so a little more depth was pretty good there as well. Young also cost much less than we'd pay for a midfielder, which is worth keeping in mind.
I can't answer why a midfielder wasn't bought. Maybe the right one wasn't available, or maybe our targets moved elsewhere or refused to move at all. At the end of the day I don't believe Fergie is happy with the current situation and if United were still a PLC I'm fairly sure the midfield issues would've been addressed.
Whose confidence would be boosted by hearing that someone who hasn't been part of the preparation for the game is top option for the bench?
I can see why SAF wants his experience back, the team (include senior players like Evra, Rio and Rooney) are looking very young and naive at times but to bring him as a surprise option? Against City?
Basically it was just asking for us to look like we'd lost our nerve against a team that was a man down. It wasn't until they went down to 9, that we looked like we were keeping pace with them again.
