Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

Bear in mind that Rooney will be dumped out of the team sooner rather than later if he doesn't perform (there's a decent chance of this happening IMO, Jose won't persisit with him for long if he's churning. This would free up Pogba for a Lampard/Gerrard style role and create another role in the team for someone like Herrera to operate in. I'd hold on to him for the time being.

I'd like to see Pogba in that kind of role for us, but he's such a complete midfielder that it'd almost be a waste of what he has to offer playing a box to box role from central midfield. One of his best qualities is his ability to bring the ball up the pitch from deep. We've been missing a central midfielder that can do that in what seems like forever.

It's Jordan Henderson. Mourinho likes the way he runs.

Really, all these people claiming to be ITK are just guessing. He is either coming or he isn't.
Flip and coin and tweet it.

And everybody knows it, yet you feel the need to mention it every five minutes for ever varying reasons and talking about other players you'd prefer who aren't available.

We get it. You don't want him. Message received.

Why is every player every other team buy are guaranteed success or are worth the money or are better than our players we are bringing in? Which other player have our rivals bought that he would say are no good or average? If he had a remotely balanced argument he would at least mention some of the subpar mediocre players that other teams have signed of which there are plenty.

To be fair the window is still open, its not unfeasible that Mata can leave and/or we loan out a few defenders.
He says Rojo, Jones, Blind and McNair are all up for sale or loan. Who on earth will play cover to Smalling and Bailly?

We have:
Schneiderlin
Herrera
Carrick
Blind
Fosu-Mensah
(Schweinsteiger)
(Rooney)

Jose made clear that he doesn't plan with the last two (in CM at least..).
The remaining 5 players have to fight for that one position and all of them have either enough experience OR potential for that role.
Whoever forms the best partnership with Pogba will get that job.

The one that beats out those 4 competitors must be in an awesome form and a damn good PL footballer. That's good enough for me.
Stop it with the replacements, especially Schneiderlin and Herrera can do much more than they've shown so far.

Fellaini?

On Paul Pogba, here is what Jose said:

"I don’t like to speak about other players. Other managers like to do that. What matters to me is only what happens in my house, not the house of my neighbour. Pogba is a Juventus player until officially he isn’t. It stays like this. I think my club is trying to do everything to close our market before August 14. So hopefully be next week we will have our squad closed."

He later on said:

"We have a young CB that needs time to be a top one, but he has top potential and we believe a lot in him, We bought a creative player we know the quality he has .We bought a super striker and we are going to get a very good midfield player. So I am happy with my squad and the effort the club did and is still doing."

There would be no point in him going back to Turin to train individually or with the youth team if he's going to be sold.

I think Juventus will announce he is leaving before/on Sunday

Heard somewhere they never make announcements in the weekend, I don't know how much off that is true. But it is part of my reasoning why I think it will be on monday or tuesday

Hopefully Schneiderlin in the presence of his upcoming club team mate will remind himself how it's like to be a classic Premier League box-to-box destroyer.

It will happen any day next week. The club is planning to finish it's transfer business before August 14th, before the start of our season. Jose has basically confirmed Pogba is coming in the press conference

Yes, I don't mean nationally, but he was like a month short of counting as homegrown at Man Utd.

the 3 season thing does not have to be with the same club, it can be with multiple clubs as long as the are part of the FA or FA of Wales.

I'm talking about homegrown at club, not country. Jones is homegrown in England, but a month short of homegrown at Man Utd.

Not sure what you're getting at here - there is no official 'one club only' home grown rule which applies to any of the competitions that United participate in so your distinction is a bit arbitrary...

Oh man can you imagine this place if after Jose said all this, the player ended up being Matuidi of Diarra lol. It would ALMOST be worth it just to see the meldown.:D

Which press conference was this?

I stand corrected.

Said the man in the orthopaedic shoes.

Maybe all this is just a Messi smokescreen.

But in all seriousness Pogba is the level of player we need to be aiming at to fast track our way back to the top table.

Will be interesting to see our targets in the next few windows.

"He is a Juventus player...until officially he isn't."

May as well have Kermit himself sat behind the desk.

So Pogba is officially a home-grown United player. We are potentially going to spend £100m on buying back a home-grown United player. This has to be a first in world football. For a club to break a transfer record to buy back a 'home-grown' talent.
Get over it, it will be a terrific transfer for the club.

I'm not sure if it's on topic, but in the CL and EL you need 8 players association-trained and 4 of the 8 players need to be club-trained.

Here's the press conference for those interested.

Aaaah.
So the provisional deadline he has set on Pogba is 14th August.
That's more like it. I trust Mourinho far more than journalists who make up their own timetables, using a random number generators.

For example, The Telegraph who I previously respected, stated that the signing would be announced yesterday.

Buying back our own player is what makes this strange. Which we've known about for ages. Why are you getting additionally wound after just finding out he's "home-grown"? The regulations mean home-grown players are more valuable. So usually come at a premium. This fact makes the price seem less steep, not more.

He's not homegrown, unfortunately.
