Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

So do we think a medical has already been done secretly or does this still need to be organised?

Is the 48 hour timescale relating to the announcement of the agreement between the clubs or his actual signature?

I'm impatient.
You don't say!

What's really crazy is some people once said Fellaini would sort out our midfield. Can you believe that?
Wasn't he pretty much the first midfielder (I use that term loosely) we bought in years? During the barren midfield years before, even the likes of Charlie Adams were briefly considered by various posters. If that doesn't scream desperate I don't know what does.

I could have sworn people thought our midfield was fixed by signing the amazing Schneiderlin and Schweini... Supposedly Pogba is the saviour of this 'atrocious' midfield this time.
Pogba wouldn't have suited LVG's style either. The manager and the style of play are very critical. For the likes of schneiderlin and Herrera, LVG was completely unsuitable. BFS less so. Under Mourinho, both Herrera and schneiderlin will do much better if given the chance.

Yes, we bought someone who flourished as a pseudo target man playing as a 10 and were then appalled when he didn't do well at CM. Hell, we even tried him as the DM, so so stupid.

I still think the midfield has been and still is generally fine, Pogba or no Pogba. We controlled the tempo of most matches with ease. By comparison, our midfield used to get outplayed by the likes of West Brom and Sunderland.

Martial aside, not one of the attacking players we had going into last season were good enough to start regularly for Manchester United.

The same still applies to all of Young, Lingard, Rooney, Memphis and (at present) Januzaj. We were shite last season because our attackers were horrendous.

The comment above about us being top heavy is a strange one. Zlatan, Mkhitaryan are still unknown quantities in the Premier League and only Martial, Rashford and (sometimes) Mata look anything like being good enough for semi-regular game time here.

In short, the midfield gets an unnecessary bad rap.

Think a lot of people got excited and carried away as it was Moyes first signing. If I recall we wanted Baines and Fellaini at the same time!

All there is to all this 'follow' stuff is quite simple and it doesn't involve an inside track;

People connected to the club (ie. sponsors and United website journos etc.) are seeing the same reports as us and are highly confident that this is a done deal and have decided to follow Pogba on intagram/twitter etc. They certainly have not been briefed of the news by United - who quite clearly have the story on lockdown until they decide otherwise. All the reliable leaks have come from the Juve side. The reliable journos in the UK with connections to United have hardly got a sniff and you can be damn sure that they'll know about the deal before Chevrolet's social media team and the like - as is always the case.

If you think that the likes of Adidas and co have not been told about a deal like this then you're wrong. United's top men will want to prove to the likes of Adidas that they can still attract the worlds best players and be the biggest player on the market. They will be briefing the sponsors regularly.

And once its out to the sponsors its not inconceivable that people working for them have heard rumours, seen or typed up internal communications. Further its not inconceivable that such people then tell someone else

Mods, I know I'm asking a lot here but when you have time could you look into implementing some sort of summary widget on the transfer threads? Something either at the top of the page on or the right hand side that summarizes all the news/gossip that's been posted from reliable sources regarding this possible transfer.

Threads like this move so fast that you end up with loads of duplication and people explaining to other people what they missed while they were sleeping or at work. I tried to go back through the pages today to find out why everyone was so excited, I had to go back about 30 pages to find one Tweet that caused everything.

Give him a break. The pressure must be unbearable on him after all this success he's had on here with his work. So much expectation. What if he fails and embarrasses himself with alerts in the single digits. What if he's presented with the dreaded sympathy posts like "Not your best work Olly, but we know you are a legend and look forward to be enraptured by your next masterpiece. :)"?

He needs to prepare.
Naa, what ever Olly does will be classic I am sure.

This place goes into meltdown even at the slightest mention of Real Madrid. Yes they maybe interested but when were they not? In fact, one of the earliest stories which came out was that Madrid made an enquiry and were quoted 120 mil + Kroos after which they backed out. Zidane maybe still interested in him but what has changed that Juventus demands be any different now? Madrid still don't have the money to finance this kind of transfer and the players which they were looking to sell for huge sums (Morata and James) are both staying. People need to be more patient and logically (Higuain transfer, our negotiations regarding addons etc.) everything suggests this is moving in the correct direction.

I wonder if the fact that Juve are not willing to strengthen their Champions league rivals while weakening themselves has come into play at some point. Would explain the Kronos request from Jve

Your making that up...

Now please spend the rest of the day scouring the forum for a remotely positive post about him and then try Stretching that to fit the "some people" (which we all know is used to say a significant amount of people) said he would sort the midfield out narrative.

Usually tweets also appear in the twitter thread also

Do people think he genuinely has a passion for the club (after all, no CL etc.) or that he's a massive money grabber? I have to say that I can't see any real reason for him to return to us apart from really, really wanting to. He could definitely get the money elsewhere.

Maybe it's a case of unfinished business 30% and 70% about the money

I seem to recall a lot of people saying this, and then when we signed him because it was Moyes signing him instead of Ferguson, suddenly everyone changed their tune and decided he was shite

Although in fairness...this is weirdly accurate, as I bet if Ferguson signed him he'd have found a way to turn him into a half decent player somehow...maybe.

I also remember a thread just after Pogba left where loads of people were arguing with me that he wasn't very good and Ryan Tunnicliffe was a better prospect anyway. In fact, I may go and find this.

So you still believe we won't sign Pogba?

People will always find a way to justify letting a player go, though, just like they're now trying to justify this incredibly overpriced fee for him.

It was never going to happen.

Still not sure...same as I said before. I'll believe it when there's something official or something from someone direct. I can't get excited over people putting tweets on twitter. It's horrendously boring and means nothing.

If Di Marzio etc are correct and the deal should be closed and done by tomorrow night, is it fair to expect some huge & positive news today?

He doesn't need a medical. The guy has just played a full season and got to the final in the Euros

Just get him to swim a couple of lengths in one of those readily available pools he always seems to be around and that should prove he has more stamina than any of our current midfield.

I remember that thread, and that wasn't the argument at all. People, myself included, said that if Pogba hadn't acted as though reserve football was beneath him and had shown the application that the likes of Tunnicliffe did then he'd had already made the first team by the time he left because his talent was never in question.

Pogba's problem back then was that he thought he should be playing in the first team and his response was to make little effort in reserve games rather than step it up to prove SAF wrong.

The big question is - if we actually sign him, does that make this thread ineligible for the 'Muppet Thread of the Summer' award?

No rule that says muppets may not triumph in order to be eligible.
