Is it a blessing or a curse refreshing this thread every 5-10 minutes while driving 16 hours today?

Thank you guys for keeping (any) updates coming. Deal better go down -- else I may pull over and add another 8 hours to my drive while I sob myself to sleep behind the wheel.
Feel for you brother, I have a HGV license, it's like you have NO life but the road :( hope we have some good news for you, make your drive better, stay safe

You are right, I guess.

Do you know how marketable was Van Persie before he joined United? I think his marketability exploded after he joined us. IIRC, Nielsen had him in the top 10 in one of their reports after he joined us.

But it's like he said. Without any previous hype, it's not possible for us to create someone marketable. The whole Beckham replacement and the costliest teenager tag put CR7 in the spotlight and once he improved his game to a high level he was this huge marketable face for Nike and many others. RvP with the top scorer of the PL and the United transfer from Arsenal and the insane scoring would have put him too.

Basically if a hyped player joins us he will be marketable. Delle Alli is marketable today but a year ago had he joined he would not have been. Hype here refers to some kind of tag. Like he said White pele for Rooney, Beckham replacement for Ronaldo, the best youngster award and that Wimbledon goal (and his set pieces) created a hype for Beckham too.

If we are going to sign another midfielder(Matuidi seems to be the favorite), along with Pog, the smart move would be to do it before signing pog, it would make Juv sweat a little..and at least prepare us for the possibility of him not coming

That makes no sense. We got Pogba. Its not anything suggesting that we want Matuidi.

Ok, so it appears that the Crerand quotes are real. He was in the journos room, heard it was done and dusted and was wondering why it hasn't been announced if it was the case

I still think we may be interested in Matuidi. Bastian is as good as a goner and I wont be surprised if Blind leaves too

If he heard it was done and dusted isn't he probably just referring to what L'Equipe said? We all thought the same when we heard that.

Could be of course, but then someone must leave. I really like Bastian, so its sad to see him leave(if he leaves). We should keep Blind imo.

Di Marzio said that Juventus doesn't need to sell Pogba to buy Higiuan. I beg to differ. Juventus are 188m in red after buying a new stadium. They are a club who live within their means and don't rely on a sugar daddy. Therefore their transfer budget is expected to be small this year.

Till the day of writing they had bought

Pjanic - £27.5m
Pjaca - £20m
Lemina - £8.08m
Benatia - £2.55m (loan)

They are also close to sell Higuian - £80m and they want Gabigol (10m-20m)

They sold

Morata - £25m
Magnusson - £2.15m
Buchel - £1.02m

and a couple of transfers less then 1m

Rumours say that they will sell Zaza for 20m + 4m in bonuses, Pereyra for 13m and they are asking 25m for Rugani and 9m for Neto.

Assuming Zaza covers Pjaca expenses, Morata covers for Pjanic expenses, Pereyra covers for Lemina and Benatia. Then they have a surplus of around 30-34m. That means they are still 46m under if they buy Higuian.

Now they can cover that expense by selling Bonucci too however their defense will be ridiculously weak (they cant afford losing both Bonucci and Rugani). Therefore the big boy leaving is Pogba which will allow around 40m to add Gabigol and pay the bills.

I think it was said that Higuain's clause can be paid in two payments of 47 which explains why they're being stubborn with the Pogba sale. So based on your calculations and the fact that they dont have to pay for Higuain in one go, they can afford him without needing to sell Pogba.

Anyway you look at it Juventus have the upper hand and we'll have to pay up.

Pogba alone won't solve our problems. He is used to having top players around him. Even if you take Pogba out of Juventus. They still have a better centre midfield than us.

Carrick/Schweinsteiger - Old/no legs injury prone. Herrera/Schneiderlin are promising but are no where near top level yet.

I think for Pogba to do well. We would need Kroos/Matuidi also. You could argue that buying Kroos & Matuidi is better option.

Pogba is not a Luka Modric the type of player that will dictate play he is someone who needs to be as forward as possible to be effective.

If you look at the players Pogba had around (Pirlo, Vidal & Marchisio) him in the 4 years he has been a Juventus and look at what they have no now compared to our current Central midfield the gulf is huge.

Pjanić was my number no.1 target this summer. Disappointed we didn't move for him.

Not saying I would not sign Pogba I still would but I think he needs a proper partner to truly thrive. We have too many squad/peripheral players, that extend beyond just the midfield.

I don't see the likes of Young, Lingard, Jones, Rojo, Valencia & Memphis setting the world alight for us. We know what most of them are capable of few of them should have been shipped years ago.
We have Schneiderlin to play behind Pogba.

Verrati, Not far off behind Pogba's level. Doubt PSG will sell but it worth throw in 60-80m and see how they react.

Diferent players but for me Veratti is worth twice as much. Nit even a contest.

Obviously, Pogba is a marketing dream and Veratti is marketing nothing, but looking only at their football, Veratti is something else. He's the next Modric, the next ultimate midfielder.

It's pretty obvious why we're willing to pay the fee for Pogs.

He's already a very good CM, he has the highest ceiling of any CM player in the world and he's an absolute marketing dream! The marketing dream aspect itself adds about 20/30M onto his transfer fee!

Napoli doesn't want to sell Higuian. Juventus is the enemy, their version to our Liverpool and Higuian is their Maradona. They won't be given discounts or arrangements that's for sure.

Even if they can pay in 2 installments of 47m, they may manage to recoup the money for this year but they wont be able to pay next years installment unless they sell Pogba. They got 110m now. There's no guarantee they will get that sum next year

If you cause the hopes and dreams of an American family to end in fiery conflagration due to your consuming interest in Paul Pogba's swag, I think it may be a curse.

Link/source please mate?

I think Bastian only joined us because of LVG. I cant see him remaining without him especially if he ends up Pogba's reserve. Blind may be sold to make space for a real CB. Matuidi, Schneiderlin, Pogba, Carrick, Herrera and Fellaini should be enough for the rear CMs

Agree with this.

But the journalists are probably just referring to the reports coming out of France a couple of days ago.

I would like to think that the journos who fly around the world with the team would be more up to date than that.

I doubt anything will happen till:

A: We get back in the UK.
B: Juve confirm Higuain.

However if there's no definite movement by the end of next week I can see this transfer not happening.

are we there yet? are we there yet?.... when will we get there

See that's just posting for posting's sake. I realise there's some desire here to break the Vidal record but let's try to make it as organic as we can.

I can assure you that if they had more up to date news that it was "done and dusted" they'd be falling over themselves to report it.

Remember, Paddy probably doesn't follow Twitter or the Caf so this would have been news to him.

When do we get back from tour and what other pre season friendlies do we play after Galatasary?

Okay, here's a question.

We are preparing a World Record Transfer Fee (WRTF) for Pogba.
For me, a WRTF signing should mean that the club become instant favourites to win the title. I feel that this is not the case with Pogba.
So, my question: if you were Jose and Woodward stated that we have unlimited funds and that we must break the WRTF this Summer. Which (attainable) player would you ask to be signed?
Remember, this has to be a realistic signing, so Neymar (who has just signed a new contract) cannot be included).
Real weren't favourites even after signing Bale or Ronaldo. infact they have only won one league title since signing Ronaldo .
