Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

I want it to happen purely for the statement it'd make, can't remember the last time a club beat Madrid to a player they wanted, and believe me Madrid really wanted Pogba, he's like the perfect 'Madrid Summer Signing'.

At the same time, I think the press here would heap pressure on him because of his fee and he'd be unable to live up to what would be expected of him.

Of course it makes sense. The longer this drags out the less likely it is to happen. If it doesn't happen in the next couple of weeks I would be inclined to move on to another target. Too many times over the last few years we have put all over eggs in one basket and wound up with Felliani on deadline day.

Paul doesn't need to be involved personally until it is time for him to do the medical. His being on holiday makes no difference to the negotiation process.
Juve may have asked us to stall the annoucement until they can recruit new players. It's not hard to imagine why it isn't being announced straight away. Look how long it took the club to announce Mkhityran, sometimes things take a little while to work out.

I just hope the delay is from juve trying to save face, as he is a fan favorite. I am much more confident than the previous sagas because with our new manager and signings we actually have an exciting project on our hands and the Jose/Woody partnership seems much more committed to quickly wrapping up transfer business than dilly dallying and hardball negotiating.

This year they have wanted
DDG
Pogba
Alaba
lewandowski
kante
And look like they're missing out on all of them. Madrid always getting their man is a myth

I'm starting to think we'll play a 4-3-3 next season. With Pogba at the top of the 3 in midfield.

Depends on how much they want that man

I have a feeling with all of those, they just think they can wrap it up non galatico style. If Madrid had really wanted DDG last year, and put a huge amount on the table, they would have got him, no doubt but they tought it would happen without even trying and there they were wrong.

So when you say none of those signings were contested, I am to take your word for it and when you mention the players we actually bought and mention the clubs in contention for them, again I am supposed to take your word for it? Why? And how come you can fabricate how each of those transfers happened to suit your argument but I cannot do the same without it being discarded by you?

You mention the names we didn't get because of our "supposed" lack of interest despite those players being heavily linked with United (Vidal, Thiago, Kroos) in exactly the same way Pogba is. But you think Pogba interest is concrete. Is there any reason behind such weird selective view at United's transfer business?
And you think getting Darmian and Depay is as difficult and as heavily contested as getting Vidal, Thiago, Kroos, James, Muller etc? You're trolling aren't you?

**Martial is not a world class established player so he doesn't qualify at all for your argument.
**Hernandez was loaned to Real and he was behind all the strikers and even the ballboys in pecking order. He was United's most loved and potent striker when he was here.

Vidal was linked to United in 2014 summer. He went to Bayern in 2015 summer. We had little to no links with Vidal last summer. Last summer Vidal went to Bayern uncontested, or at least we weren't interested. Same with James, with whom we had few links this summer alone.

How do you know it isn't? Depay was one of the most rated youngsters in the world at the time and apparently PSG had agreed all terms before we swooped in the last minute.

Thiago also wasn't world class when he moved. He was a highly rated youngster like martial and depay albeit at a slightly higher level.

The point is every team has a saga and end up not signing players. And Pogba seems more than most of those as the more reliable sources say agreement exists. With Vidal most Italian sources were saying that we didn't bid.

What do you base that on?

This is a classic "we're not hearing enough good news that may or may not be made up so I'll panic" post.

Not panicking. I'd like Pogba but have faith Mourinho will get alternatives if he wants them.

I'm dubious based on past experiences of trying to sign galacticos. There is evidence both ways if you look objectively. Di Marzio/ballague are positives. Raiola's comments can be seen as negatives. If you just focus on the reports you want to hear and write off the negatives it's confirmation bias.

Where has woody been. Havent seen him anywhere, usually he is front and center of the signings . Hope we have him hunckered down in turin till an agreement is made

I don't buy into this angle of Pogba wants to go to Madrid because of how much he admires Zidane and wants to work under him. I suppose Pogba might admire Zidane and wants to work with him and Zidane wants him, but the problem is he cannot be absolutely certain that Zidane would be manager by the end of next season, leave alone over the course of his time there. Plus he might not be the main star there with CR7 and others who hog most of the limelight.

I am not saying we can guarantee that JM would be our manager for the next 5 or 10 years, but I am absolutely certain, we won't sack a manager because he didn't deliver a trophy only a year after a manager has won the CL or PL. With Rooney's popularity waning, a player like Pogba can be the face of a new era at United. When it comes to marketing and putting a player world over, we don't do that bad. He'll be front and center of everything United and he won't have to share the space with a mercurial talent like CR7. The fans would love him here and would be more patient with him, if he has a few bad days and he can really become a global phenomenon from his already recognized level.

I didn't like that quote from his agent about how he needs an "interesting project" or some such. As much as I agree that the results have not been great, we're still Manchester United!! A global juggernaut with millions of fans who follow us through thick and thin. He might help us win, as much as we might make him a global superstar of dizzying proportion. It is a mutually beneficial arrangement. When a player plays for United, he becomes a household name in millions of homes across the world. Barely 3 or 4 clubs in the world can guarantee that sort of exposure.

A move to us makes sense on different levels, not just an increase in weekly pay. The only question now is, does he want to move. If the answer is Yes, I think we'll land him. If not, well, there will always be another player who can step up and will perform for United.

P.S: I hope I didn't take this thread off topic with my two cents. I really don't want to be threadbanned as this thread and board has been my main source for United related news. Please delete the post if you feel I've strayed off topic. With this thread going in 10 different directions, I truly don't know what staying on topic means for this one. Thanks.

I think it will happen based on what we've seen so far - but I think that was said to pacify any 'slight' Juventus/fans might feel if he left them to play for us in the Europa League. There was that story where Ed wanted to know the best way to deal with Juventus - best way to engineer the move. I think that's what we've seen up to now. His agent could tell the truth, but he's muddying the water and confusing people on purpose by being obtuse and telling little white lies. United still have to be willing to pay the fee. I wouldn't fret about his agent. He's sly.

David Amoyal has written a price for ESPN where his opinion is that we have just a 30% chance of signing Pogba.

This is strange considering how close he is to Di Marzio.

That we don't know. If that's the case though obviously we wont move on. I'm saying if I was Ed and they are stringing us along going into August I'd bail and go somewhere else. Give it 2 weeks then say here's the offer take it or leave it. If they're still hemming and hawing move on.
He's a great player but we can't get caught out again like we did with Ramos and Fiberglass.

30% is very low, I'm a bit surprised.

Yeah but if I remember right, he thought Pogba would stay at Juve.....if I'm remembering right - it would be earlier in thread. So not unexpected. Also he just pulled a number out of his butt. Means nothing. He worked out all by himself (we assume), that if he felt Pogba would stay at Juve, it would have to be a percentage under 50%. He's a smart guy...

Marca today reporting that Pogba wants to go back to United with €13m per year agreed, 5 year deal?

Thoughts guys?

According to Marca - Real's mouthpiece - we are his first choice and Real are his secons choice.

Shows the stupidity of some on here that declared he "clearly" wanted them first-choice based on zero evidence whatsoever.

Anyways, I think we are definitely getting him.

I have no doubts this will be done, but may take a little time to iron out the finer points of the negotiations (see: Zlatan).

People give up too easily! No news is good news I reckon, big transfers rarely go through quickly

He's on important transfer business.

They'd have gotten De Gea but for their incompetence on deadline day last year, they could have triggered his release clause up until June too.

They'd have signed Kante if they really wanted him, same with Lewandowski who's flirted with them for the past two transfer windows, don't know about Alaba, they've got Marcelo at LB who's a fan favourite, not sure their interest was ever that serious.

Think Pogba was going to be their usual Summer 'Galactico' signing though, not many players in Europe at the moment bigger than Pogba.

DDG decided to stay this summer. Nothing do with a fax machine.
No wonder people always think they get their man when all these excuses are made for players they couldn't get!

Have we even made the bloody bid yet?
Has there been any bloody posts yet?

Seriously, so people expect these questions to lead to people saying "oh yea, just checked and United have confirmed a bid"?

If there's actual news you won't be able to miss it.

Take it how you want, they could have triggered the clause in his contract, they didn't because Navas had a stormer of a season.

Fact is Madrid is seen as the pinnacle of Football to the majority of players nowadays, it's always in the back of my mind when a player of ours starts turning in performance one after another that they'll up and leave for Madrid.

It wasn't meant to be directed to the posters just a show of frustration that after all this transfer talk we still havent got anywhere further than 100 pages ago.

How exactly is 'no news good news'? No news is good news for the side benefiting from the status quo. It makes no sense imo.

I see it differently. All the stuff in the papers last week was posturing and now talks are on-going between clubs. It's guess work, but I highly doubt this transfer is dead like some on here are saying, if it was we would be getting linked or bidding for other players

We are the supporters. We're not the ones conducting the business ;) It seems however you want it too seem but that doesn't make it a reality. Some people are treating this kind of a transfer, like a run of the mill transfer. It's simply not the case. We don't know how advanced anything is. People just have to relax.
