Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

True, however we got the Mourinho factor. I would've had zero confidence of attracting Pogba if a different manager was at the helm. With Mourinho I have the full confidence that we can attract any target regardless of CL football.

We have a bigger factor than the likes of Arsenal but our factor is still small compared to Madrid. We have Mourinho, one of the best manager out there. But at the same time Real Madrid has one of the best players like Bale and Ronaldo. Real Madrid has Champion League and they just won Champion League last season. They are still in a big candidate to win it next season. So I don't see us having a full confidence to attract Pogba. But judging by how the rumours have been going I think this is a matter of how much we can convince Pogba's agent.

Have paddy power actually suspended betting on him coming to united, or is that just a vicious cocktease rumour?

Moratta going to Real was out of Juve's hands. Pogba is not.
Yes, but they knew that and put him in the promotional pictures anyway. Pogba being in them doesn't mean he's staying either.

As if a club would not use their most marketable player in promotional photos/media on the off chance that he'll be sold a month or two later. That'd be stupid.

To add to the "Madrid can get anyone" discussion above:

This is IMO something that Jose and Woodward can change and build their legacies on. For all of Ferguson's success, he was never able to knock off Real Madrid from their perch as the most desired destination in football. Part of it has to do with Fergie's sometimes unfair ability to raise the level of average at best players, or his aversion to spending big and dealing with agents, but when push came to shove, you lost way too many players to the Spanish duopoly, Bayern and eventually Chelsea, PSG and City. This is something that Woodward addressed before, that the best players in the world needs to play in the PL, and having a Galactico manager who's actually great at picking targets (and getting the most from them, right LVG?) will see his vision materialize. At the very least, I can see you regularly competing with Barca (RM is just on another level tbh).

No offence to Giggs but Zizou is a much bigger name not just in France but in the world.
Is he actually though? Think More Americans / Asians would recognise Giggs more. The premier league is popular in many countries, not sure Zidane would have had the same exposure.

The world cup?

The media coverage over Zizou's headbutt was insane, probably comparable to Lebron's Decision. Zidane is huge, no homo.

No doubt the world cup is big, but that's only a tournament for a few weeks every 4 years. Most fans who watched the world cup would recognise both anyway, so I think the average person would recognise Giggs more. Who knows anyway

Maybe, maybe not.

But to a young Welsh player Giggs would be just as big a name as Zidane would be to a young French player.

Not transfer related but worth a post. You know Paddy will be advising him well...

For what it's worth, Real Madrid fans don't seem massively keen on signing him (51% against it, per the Managing Madrid website. Not scientific, but still). I wonder if RM owners are typically influenced by fan opinion? Anyone have examples of them signing players their fans weren't really all that into?

That would be interesting to see what percentage of our fans want him especially for the price that's been rumoured.

MODS: Can we get a poll for a Yes No @ €100m?

Despite all those quoting me and bringing up Arsenal (a moot point in the discussion), I stick to what I said.

It's laughable that a player would go to Europa League United over Barcelona or Real Madrid in 2016. Anyone with sense can see that.

I think you'll get Pogba, by the way - because no other big team will pay the money required.

But it's not just about how big a club is alone. A key factor for many footballers would be game time. Kagawa reportedly rejected Madrid in favour of a move to United and United fan Aaron Ramsey rejected United for a move to the Emirates for more game time.

Anyone who pays the money required will plan on starting Pogba. Real Madrid, by all accounts, are not in for him. Barcelona aren't in for him. Bayern aren't in for him.

Those are the three clubs who can offer what United offer (money) and have a bigger allure on the pitch.

Whether or not Pogba goes to United essentially depends on whether you give Juventus an offer that they can't refuse.

This video and the one where they've got the trophy are just hilarious. Evra must have been such a laugh to have in the dressing room.

I wasn't referring to Pogba specifically, but rather about players generally wanting to join said clubs.

There is little or no buzz in the Madrid press about Pogba signing for them. It’s been reported in ABC (a serious paper) that the Madrid brass don’t see Pogba as a player that would improve them at this time. So I think we’re firmly in the lead for him. We have the money, the interest, the manager and the slot for him to play in.

The only way he doesn’t come in my speculative little brain, is if Tony Kroos indeed wants to play under Guardiola and asks Real Madrid for a transfer. Then suddenly there would be a positionfor them to fill (and a cash injection of 75 million euros) that would make them likely to match Juventus demands.

Let’s hope the latter doesn’t happen.

Barca cant afford him, the renewal with Neymar has seen to that. Madrid could, but will they match a world record fee for a player they don't really need?

I agree, but was speaking generally. They're just a more attractive option unfortunately.

He's not coming guys, these mega deals never come off for us. Lets accept it and move on.

No. It's only July 6th and he's still playing at the Euros, imagine giving up on this so early. No thank you, I've set up camp and not leaving till he signs.

He didn't stay to play for him Bayern Munich so not sure that will be in his thinking.

And it is the cafes version of the jungle camp in Calais, an ever expanding mass of muppet refugees, fleeing from one rumour torn thread to another in search of a Di Marzio tweet to cross the channel of fiction to the land of hope and glory.

Pessimism is not a good trait to have. If you love life, you will always be an optimist! So, since i am one that always looks on the bright side, i believe! Of course he could stay at Juve. They have a great setup and win things. Things are not as clear with us. But, we are moving forward. We just won the FA Cup with a crud manager, playing crud football. We now have a manager than can attract the worlds best. Let's just see what happens. We have a lot in our favour, so this transfer is not beyond the realms of possibilities like you have said. Let's go!

You must be joking here. Giggs is more local. When football is mentioned here, Zidane's name comes up pretty often, he's a global star. I don't really hear people outside of UK talking about Giggs, unless it comes from a Man Utd fan, or the discussion is centered around Man Utd and even then people usually talk about Beckham, Rooney, etc.
