He'll come, be not very all that in the premier league, drift out of the first 11, be sold on at a 75% loss two or four years down the road, and his signing will feature in one of those 20 Most fecking Stupid And Morally Bankrupt Transfers In Football History compilations.
Don't buy this mummy-coddled, Serie A resigner.

Nothing is guaranteed, but it's hard to see how it's likely that the above happens. It's fair enough to pick out one or two other players you may prefer in his position, but there's no doubt that he's right up there amongst the very best options around.

What's more likely is that we don't sign him. We've not had a great record with our biggest muppet targets in recent years.

I think this is on, after the Euros this will get done for me. Mourinho sounded confident

Interesting. Mourinho has just said he won't play Rooney as a midfielder and that he'd be a striker, secondary striker or a CAM. That may mean 1 less midfielder will be sold.

I noticed he said "when" we get the 4th, and not "if" we get the 4th. Must be quite confident.

Going by that conference I firmly believe he is Mourinho's 'fourth' specialist. What gave it away was that he mentioned he's working hard along with Woodward and the Glazers to get his signings done so he could 'breathe'. 3 of them are pretty much wrapped up so it leaves Pogba.

Question for everyone. Would signing Pogba be a bigger coup than signing Di Maria in 2014?

PogON!

Jose was talking about fundamental player additions. That player from mexico is a back up at best and there really hasn't been a proper rumour for any other player. It looks like the chase has been confirmed (imo)

If we do sign him, I've already made peace with the fee.

My natural reaction is that we've screwed up on an unprecedented scale if we let somebody who was so obviously a future megastar go for free, only to sign him again for a world record fee. But I've got a new way to look at it:

Pushing an 18-year-old into the squad is always very tricky and risky. Managing the transition from very promising youngster to automatic first choice ptoves incredibly hard over and again. So we've paid Juve £100m (because we can) to manage this period of development for us. And if that all works out well, it's money well spent.

Admittedly, a loan would have been more traditional.

Pogba signed his last contract in October 2014, there was no chance he is on 150k a week; He'll be a long way short of that.

I have posted reddit link too which is about every player wage in Serie A. It was reported by GDS. Pogba earning 6.5 million net was very well known, surprised few are surprised by that.

I honestly don't see what difference it makes, Pogba wanted to go at the time as SAF didn't show enough trust in his abilities, we didn't let him go. Martial was 19 when signed for a record free for a teenager, are we complaining now? no, because it turns out he was the real deal and could potentially become a top three-four player. You have to pay for quality.

POGfeckingON

dont want any of you miserable downers posting we arent after him. hes coming.

Well there was plenty in that press conference to get the muppet juices flowing!

So we now know:
- There's 1 more position we are 100% signing a new starter for. Said as much saying they've prioritised a spine or nucleus (was it?) of 4 players of which we've got 3.
- The 4th will be sorted relatively soon. "We will not be signing the 4th on the 31st August. No way."

Logic would suggest it's a CM. The impression I got was that the target had already been identified. "When we sign..." and such words were used. Not saying it's Pogba confirmed but those words can only be taken positively really. Long way to go though.

Touch wood, we get - Ibra, Mhiki, Bailly and Pogba. Was hoping for one more but we really can't complain if we pull this off..

Definitely a midfielder will come as the 4th position. Pogba seems very much the player. If he can't acquire his services there will be an alternative in mind for that role.

Jose suggested there could be more signings, but at the absolute minimum we want that 4th target and then he'll be happy.

One hundred percent. We would be beating Madrid to a player who Juve dont want to sell. Di Maria was surplass to requirement as soon as James Rodriguez was signed.

I can post various links that state otherwise. Naturally the exchange rate fluctuation in the last 2 weeks have have changed what is earnings equate to in sterling.

Reason i think this is nailed on now, is that when relegation fodder clubs are throwing around 30-40m pound bids for players around europe, and manchester united net spend is hovering around 50m pounds, you just know the big transfer hasn't occurred yet. Add into the mix mourinho's past courting of pogba, the fact he seems to be on the move this summer, and our glaring hole in central midfield i think this is a winner.

It's obvious that Pogba is our number one target, especially with him confirming that Rooney will not play as 6 or a 8.

If we don't get Pogba then we may settle for Matuidi.

Yeh this. He said once we'd got the 4th man then he (Mourinho) "could breathe". Then went onto say something like at the point the market would then become open to us.

We'll bring reinforcements for four positions in the first team, we already bought three players and we're waiting for the fourth addition. I prefer specialists in each position to multi-positional footballers.

When we have the 4th, I will breathe, and we will do this before August 31st.

These are not the words of a man chasing a u/21's player from mexico

I think that means sales as in sales are closed until we get who we want.

Might be setting ourselves up for a disappointment here, will probably end up getting Matuidi or Diarra. Which isn't too bad i guess, would be nice to get Pogba though, won't be getting my hopes up.

I interpret it as we can then relax and take our time and if a player becomes available who we want we can get him, but if not, no worries.

£100m isn't so bad, no seriously - think about it. He is atleast in the talent class of Bale, arguably higher. Bale cost about £86m, if you factor in football transfer inflation and footballnomics which is a unique thing, especially in the PL, we are not overpaying.

Is he double the player that for example Sterling and David Luiz is? Yes, then he is also worth double the fee.

Stop trying to apply logic to footballnomics and transfers.

Not sure what your point is. Exchange rate doesn't matter when I say he is earning 6.5 million euros after tax. I'm not converting it to any other currency. FYI Italian clubs are very transparent about player wages.

As long as we sell him for a decent profit thats fine as far as I'm concerned... get a couple of good seasons out of him then make a big profit... yes please

I would have no problem signing pogba, not my money. Now convincing Pogba is another case, let alone agreeing the fee. But the fact Jose has identified the engine room with pogba, would he thought when he signed essien was a tough fee to agree, pogba is on another level

Fair enough, that would also make sense. I interpreted it as that at that stage we'd be able to relax and monitor any scenario changes e.g.
- a Real Madrid cast off becoming available like Robben, Sneijder, Di Maria
- a change in a clubs circumstances making players now available like Martial after Monaco failed in the CL qualifiers.

I think the fact Jose is speaking about the 4th is a very positive sign that he's confident we can land Pogba, for sure it's not a given - yet - but I'm fully confident in Jose.

Why are you adamant its Pogba? Not having a dig but it seems people are basing it on speculation rather than any facts.

Pogba is the only player that haa credible rumours back it, Jose is not "holding his breath" for a u/21 academy signing and he infered his 4th signing was a fundamental/specialist player for the starting XI.

Unless we see a flurry of Di Marzio or BBC stories linking us to other players of that calibre , it all points to a chase for Pogba. The issue is, we might have zero chance of getting him.

It was 4.5m euro's a few posts a go, so which is it?

Feel free to show me something official from Juve on Pogba's wages? Otherwise it is pure speculation.
