Why are you adamant its Pogba? Not having a dig but it seems people are basing it on speculation rather than any facts.

Aside from all the press speculation? I suppose it is the desire within the club to correct mistakes, we corrected the mistake of not hiring Jose by hiring Jose and we need to correct the mistake of Pogba leaving by signing Pogba.

We are already in negotiations with Pogba with Di Marzio and other reliable outlets saying the same thing. It has to be him. But if we fail then we will have a fall back option like a Matuidi.

Pogba is the only player that haa credible rumours back it, Jose is not "holding his breath" for a u/21 academy signing and he infered his 4th signing was a fundamental/specialist player for the starting XI.

Unless we see a flurry of Di Marzio or BBC stories linking us to other players of that calibre , it all points to a chase for Pogba. The issue is, we might have zero chance of getting him.

That's why i don't think it's Pogba, Jose seemed quite confident of this '4th' signing saying it would be done well before Aug 31st.

I honestly don't see what difference it makes, Pogba wanted to go at the time as SAF didn't show enough trust in his abilities, we didn't let him go. Martial was 19 when signed for a record free for a teenager, are we complaining now? no, because it turns out he was the real deal and could potentially become a top three-four player. You have to pay for quality.

But there's a fairly convincing argument that we could hae given him enough game time to get him to stay (Rafael in midfield anybody?), and so dropped a bollock by not doing enough to keep him. In which case we would not have had to pay for quality (beyond whatever Le Havre got).

But as I say, I'm happy to think of it as a development fee!:D

I hope you are right mate, but don' think it's that clear cut.

I think Pogba is the 4th. From the press conference, it's clear he wants it to be settled quickly. If it was someone low key like Hirvano, there would be no issues tying it up before then, so for him to mention it, it's clearly a bigger name target.

I'm pretty sure we were really confident in signing Ramos, even ramos confirmed our bid, yet that went nowhere and we didn't sign a second CB because of it. It's just wait and see now. If Di Marzio starts bringing out solid rumours for another player then i think we can probably move off the pogba train. However as of right now it seems to be pogba.

It was 4.5m euro's a few posts a go, so which is it?

Feel free to show me something official from Juve on Pogba's wages? Otherwise it is pure speculation.

4.5 million. Like I said Italian clubs are very transparent about wages. GDS report them every year, report every single player in Serie A.

A paper reporting it doesn't make it official, thats not transparency its speculation. If Juve announced it in their accounts or the Italian FA did it would be official.

Then how do you know that he is long way short of 4.5 million net when there is nothing official from Juve?

I don't get why some of you are saying our alternative is Matuidi/Diarra, I thought they were more defensively oriented, while Pogba is more attacking? Am I wrong?

Nope, you're not. They're really not similar players. I expect Jose is fully aware of that, even if some on here seemingly are not.

possibly - though you would not have thought there could be too many destinations... City, Chelsea, Barca, Madrid, PSG?
at least with the last two the arrival of Pogba might give us an opportunity to sign somebody else (Modric / Kroos or Veratti / Matuidi)

Why are people still going on about Matuidi? The entire (made-up) story was he left the French camp to go to England. He didn't go anywhere, especially not Manchester, so there is no story.

It's clearly been leaked to the press, and Duncan Castles who has been Mourinho's mouthpiece is saying he is targetting Pogba.

No smoke without fire this year, every other target has been bang on too.

He's clearly talking to the press to try and show we are majorly interested, so watch this space.

This. I would imagine someone like Andre Gomes would be the logical back up.

yeah, i was under the impression one Matuidi story was completely made up and for the other story some from CANAL+ was linking us to him.

At least the pogba rumours come from Lequipe and Di Marzio.

Seems like Madrid + Barca have switched their attentions to him instead. Works out fine for us.

Yeah I read the Marca article. They claim he has enhanced his reputation at the Euros.
God knows what reputation that is

lol he looked fairly athletic and a tidyish passer but nothing special. I suppose because he's white and half the price Perez will prefer him :nervous:

considering the Lozano rumours are now looking to be complete BS https://www.redcafe.net/threads/hirving-lozano.418276/page-8#post-19457625

Considering the Matuidi rumours seem to be based off a lie and one rumour from CANAL+

considering Jose is "holding his breath" and looking for 4 specialist players

Pogba has to be the likely candidate. He has the most credible rumours behind him. Doesn't mean he will come, i just don't see who this other mystery player could be.

The 4th position is certain to be a midfielder IMO, and Pogba the first on the list. We're in with a good chance of getting him.

I wonder who the second on the list is? Unlikely to be Lasagna or Matuidi.

I will be amazed if we sign Pogba. Put yourself in his shoes. A 23 year old with a very very bright future - Would you want to return to a club who lets face it, didnt rate him or would you rather go to their European rivals (Madrid) and let them know what they are missing.

I believe United are doing all they can to get him and can outbid anyone but does Pogba want to come back here?

It's not a club that didn't rate him, you could say it was Fergie, and he is gone. It's a totally different regime. I'm guessing Pogba is a lot less bitter than a lot of the people on here.

He was 18, so im sure hes forgiving of the past. He also loved life in Manchester. He calls himself a Mancunian.

I was convinced we weren't getting Pogba, but after Mourinho's conference, i just don't know anymore. I just got the feeling that there is a big chance.

Different circumstances. It wasn't Mourinho who let him go for starters.

Mourinho and Woodward had nothing to do with him leaving so I don't understand your way of thinking.

I know he loves and visits Mcr alot and that it was Fergie who let him go not the whole club or the fans. From what I've seen of Pogba in interviews etc he comes across as very ambitious and self confident. I can't see him returning to United given how big a personality Fergie is here.

I hope I'm wrong and that he see's it completely different.

The way fergie tells it, it was Raiola who ruined everything. Not a question of not rating him.

So daring to dream would it be,
