Oops - I was just backing you up, not trying to correct you - that Pogba obviously really wants to be here and him not publicly courting for the move was not because he didn't really want to come - just that he couldn't do it.

And probably because it was pointless, if Juventus agreed to let him go why would he court United? The move was happening.

I've been singing "he's one of our own...." in the office all day today. My colleague, Arsenal fan, can't stand it. Who knows why?

Di maria would have been a proper statement signing for me had there been any willingness on his behalf at all that he wanted to be here, let alone the fact he was shuffled out by the club he wanted to be at, and the club he wanted to go to couldnt afford him that summer.

Thats not to say he wasn't the calibre of player to qualify, but for me, Pogba and van persie both had that desire to be here, and we got them from clubs desperate to keep them.

But fair.
I was more talking about the initial signing. Just because it didn't pan out how we wanted was irrelevant to the fact that at the time of the signing we had signed one of the best attackers in the world. Definitely a statement of intent. I understand the desire part but initially he was quite happy to be here till van Gaal bored him to death.

De Gea wanted out aswel. Just like di Maria. A tyrant of a coach can make one lose desire to play for the club. di Maria would have still been here if Jose was our coach and not LVG.

Livid. I never seen fans so bitter. They claim he is overrated now and that they got 125 million euros net for him and were really smug, then Juventus themselves broke that they are only getting 105 +5 and Juventus were the ones paying Raiola which means they spent more on 28.5 year old lard higauin than we did on Pogba. They are basically in riot mode. Its glorious :lol::lol: . If he was so overrated why are they going titts up
That lots are quite a bunch. Not long ago they were singing praise of him and outright stating him to be the best midfielder in the world, then came this transfer saga and its conclusion, and that's that

As an old(ish) fart, I often feel disconnected with where football is going and feel a bit weird about our new galactico policy. However, it's easy for people like me to forget that there's a new generation of fans out there, who have been crying out for a bit of razzmatazz at United. My lad is 7 and mad about United (the power of brainwashing) but has struggled to find positives while watching us play these last couple of seasons. Which made me hate Van Gaal with a passion. He's besides himself with excitement about this deal, though. He's been on a soccer camp during the school holidays and all the kids his age are doing dab celebrations and think Pogba is cool as feck. Such an inspirational signing for the kids who are just starting to fall in love with United. We've been painfully short of star quality for ages and he has it in spades.
Brings a tear to my eye.

That's absolutely brilliant and definitely a part of football many of us of have long forgotten, great to read.

You mean Paul fecking Pogba? That thing?:D

Oh common Pogue, where are your manners? You should write "As a United fan since the days of Newton Heath" :D

That's the power of Mourinho lads. Signing the worlds best players and guaranteeing success.

Time to sit back, grab the popcorn and get used to it. It's gonna be one hell of a ride. :)

I know this video has been posted but i strongly recommend people with doubts to watch it. It's not some scrabby 5 minutes highlight video.
I can't see how he's going to be anything other than a success here. I watched him in the reserves but this player is unrecognisable. He has elevated his game so much.
Is there a more complete young midfielder. Strength, pae, skill, balance, technique, grace, guile, toughness, passing(long and short)...this guy has it all. Look at how players are bouncing off him.

And this was only his last year at Juve.

And that's the thing some people don't get, unlike most midfield out there, Pogba is the complete package. Normally it'd be very rare and hard to find a player the size of Pogba with extremely high technical skills. Midfield usually come categorized. You either get some with good technique, passing etc or the powerful, tank type ones. Pogba is both in one single package.

He's powerful, skilled with a ball, scores goals, assists, can tackle, bullies players off. The dude is as complete as it gets with midfield attributes, with further potential to get even better.

Great read, and while I don't have a kid, I can think back to my own childhood when David Beckham was just about the coolest person to ever exist. With Pogba (and Ibra) we've got a player with that star quality that goes beyond just football. Players like that attract new fans by the truckload, and we've lacked a player like that since Rooney and Ronaldo were in their prime. There are very few players like that in football today. I can only think of Neymar, Messi and Ronaldo that go beyond Pogba in terms of the coolness factor and star quality.

That's one of the best posts I have read on here in ages!

I can't deny, I'm really happy!

Up until recently I thought it's too much money but looking at the market, it actually isn't. It's just where football's at at this point. If you want to sign an established, young player - you have to spend a ton.

When we lost him few years ago I was actually proper annoyed with Fergie for a while. I thought we were negligent, a sign for the way the club has been run for a good while.
Getting Pogba back is a nice start, let's fix the rest of the mess.

So, we even paid that fat piggy's fees.

ffs:mad:

All the best to Pogba though.

What is that story about Juventus buying a house for Pogba and why did you paid 25m to Raiola? Are the GDS losing it?

I'm stoked. I was very excited about him when he broke into the first team all those years ago and was infuriated when he left, despite understanding his decision. It seemed a step in the wrong direction for one of the biggest clubs in the world to let one of his most promising youngsters - who was being touted as a future world beater - run out of contract and lose him for free, even before he had any major contribution to the first team.

He seems genuinely happy to be back in that MUTV interview. One can argue that the kind of money he is getting might have something to do with it, but he could get it elsewhere.

Like the majority of fans, I'm not crazy about the transfer fee, these kind of amounts always feel like too much money for a football player. But that's the market, the price is what you're willing to pay for. Simple demand and supply principles. But since nowadays football is not only a sport but also a business, we should look at it as an investment. Will we have return on this investment? Surely. While the direct impact on merchandising sales will be massive, signing Pogba also indirectly affects sponsorship, advertising and TV deals. And Pogba, like Zlatan, is the type of world class player that will improve our team and, subsequently, get us to the top of the european football chain, both in the Premier League and the Champions League which in turn generates higher prize money.

It is ridiculous the number of good passes Mandzukic and Cuadrado fecked up.

As far as midfielders go, he's about as "complete" as it gets. The only ones who come close are Vidal and an inform Yaya Toure for me.

At least he's experienced the barren trophy years following United at such a young age so he hasn't understand much yet. But later on when United will be back being successful for another 2 decades, he can brag on being United supporter ever since the darker years.

For those of you who are expecting spectacular goals, hollywood dribbles, and a bagful of goals that you'd expect from the likes of Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar from midfield in the premier league will probably be dissappointed. We have bought him to control the tempo of games just like Scholes did and to quicken play between the lines. We can expect him to pick out players from all over the pitch and create plenty of opportunities. We can expect him to be a monster in midfield (Just looking at him recently on TV he's taller than I expected!!). My prediction is that we'll see about 10 goals from him this season but the main difference is that we now have a presence in midfield.Hes got all the physical and technical attributes to get even better. Yes we have overpaid but 3 seasons down the line I think it'll be a great investment.

Is there any news on the adidas Man Utd trailer? I'm quite excited to see it now.

Brilliant, mate! :)

If a few things pan out right we'll have quite a lot of star quality in the next few years. Right now, I think we can say that only Pogba and de Gea are top stars. However, I'm very confident that Shaw and Martial will get there aooner ratjer than later and I suspect Woodward wants us to "watch the space" next summer too ;)

And he's only 23. Can't wait to see him play.

I didn't realise Pogba had only signed with adidas in March after having not had a boot deal beforehand, with both Nike and adidas fighting for him.

But guys, Graeme Souness is yet to be convinced and he signed Ali Dia so he knows a match influencing player when he sees one.
That still makes me chuckle everytime I think about it. I mean Fergie apparently didn't watch any Bebe footage before buying him but Souness was convinced by a random phone call - hilarious.

That's great to hear. Also good job on brainwashing your kid; hopefully more parents will follow suit and stop their kids buying Barca and Madrid shirts.

Sidenote - it's a pity we can't change our usernames; Pog Mahone as a nice ring to it!

Actually Pogba has hollywood dribbles and spectacular goals(where do you think the Pogboom comes from). And wouldn't necessarily associate controlling the tempo in midfield with Pogba that much. Yes he's capable of that but that's not what his game is mostly about, he'll need someone to help him with that.

Pogba is mostly about the threat going forward, his creativity that what he'd excel mostly. He'll need another midfield to sit deep behind him to help control things defensively otherwise the game won't suit him.
