One thing I'll give McTominay is that he knows how to milk a challenge and win fouls.

Unlike Fellaini and Pogba who needed to be chokeslammed off the top of a cage WWF Mankind style in order to win a free kick, McTominay knows how to make every tackle look painful which, more often than not, gets the ref to blow.

It's actually a thing that I like and dislike about both Pogba and Fellaini. They don't go down unless you make them totally lose balance which makes it very easy for anyone to know that they have been fouled. Unfortunately referees still don't know it.

It's sad though isn't it ? Refereees do encourage diving and milking things when they refuse to give appropriate FKs for tall players

Not seeing what a lot of posters did today, he was great for 30 or so minutes, and then seemed to vanish.

Still pops up with nice flashy moments, but he's basically nonexistent when the opposition has the ball, and holds on to the ball for far too long.

to add to that, he almost gifted them a goal in the first half. Terrible header into the box.

the irritating thing is that some fans start on with their “he’s the best player” claims every time he runs a bit

Very good first half, probably our best player. Pretty anonymous second half again like the rest of the team.

Probably our most consistent performer in the past 12 months. Hard to think of another player bar the keeper who has had consistently 4 good games out of 5 repeatedly in that time.

Easily the best player on the pitch today. He didn't look to amused with the level of the play of those around him, Sancho aside.

Don't see all the laudits for him. For what? For being able to pass in behind a high line? Southampton took the fight to us today. And McTominay and Pogba did next to nothing. Outplayed by Romeu and SWP.

Yes I agree with this. Nice moments on the ball but we need someone to actually run a game of football for us. Pogba was supposed to eventually grow into that player. Not good losing the midfield to that level of player. Cost more than the whole Southampton squad. Of course he should have some nice moments

A better coached team who are actually a very good tactical unit. Romeu and WP are good players and as a unit their midfield functioned well. Our midfield only Pogba functioned....McT isn’t on the same level as Southampton’s midfield and Bruno was a train wreck, giving up possession and putting us under pressure constantly....but yes let’s blame the guy who did perform a one man midfield job almost.

Pathetic agenda. Yet above you said he played well....through gritted teeth. He did play well. This is the problem, regardless of how he plays individually some sad posters will always try to pin the blame on him for the team. Yet McT was just poor and Bruno was a train wreck. But yeah he played well but it’s all his fault too.

Put it as you want, could easily put down your defending of him as some sort of agenda as well. I know, that McT didn't have a great game and performed his invisible trick again. I also mentioned Bruno for being shit. And yes, I have no issue with mentioning that today, Pogba probably was the best of a bad bunch, but what does that? Nothing really. He earns 6's and 7's in the ratings just because he is playing a few balls in behind. Thats great but as you seem to be able to see that Romeu and WP create a balanced midfield, you must know that it takes more than balls in behind to play in midfield.

I am glad once this story is finally over. All this constant "thinking" about how to make the most of Pogba. Let another club enjoy this treat for once. We will be better off with two new players with half his natural talent but more dedication and a more realistic understanding of the necessity of workrate. And don't try to shake this off as agenda. Southhampton has shown today that talent alone is worthless.

No, today they were worse, he was about the best of a bad lot but If people are claiming pogbas game was anything better than decent then standards are falling too far. The midfield was almost invisible when it came to the scrap and stamping our authority on the game or finding any rhythm. No agenda here whatsoever to state that. I want him to be to be great but too often he’s a passenger but with a nice few tricks. Just not a conventional CM.

No point posting in a performance thread when your actually just posting through agenda and not performance.

Perhaps his performance as it was would’ve had more impact if the other two did their job. He did his. End of. Read the agenda of the guy you agreed with. His entire post is agenda driven. Pogba must be the only player I’ve ever known who can’t be simply assessed on his own performance.

I think that's a fair reflection for the first half only. If you thought he was second half too then I worry for you. Southampton totally bossed the midfield second half. Pogba was anonymous. Definitely was one of our better players today though overall purely because his first half was very good.

We don't seem to be able to play for 90mins as a team. It's not just Pogba in his defence.

No point posting in the performance thread if you want to talk about other players shortcomings.

:)

Lets leave it at that. His performance didn't deserve much talking about it. It was decent to alright in a relatively bad result. Difficult to turn that into something positive I guess.

If you thought he wasn't, I'd start to wonder whether you were even watching the same match. He wasn't anonymous in the second half of anywhere near it.

We seem to flip a switch at half-time, and I suspect it is a confidence issue. It’s becoming self-fulfilling.

Give it up mate. This place decided they didn’t like the guy a long time ago. The double standards are hilarious when it comes to Pogba. I think that’s what you get for being an exuberant character; people want to shit on him.

Just compare the opinions on Mctomminay; a player that will never achieve anything close to what Pogba has achieved. You’re wasting your time trying to reason with people.

He was mate. Southampton bossed it. What did he do that was so great second half?

the agenda never dies wth pogba. He was the only midfielder who showed up for most of the game till he got tired as expected. Since his been out a while

He's been back 3 games. We've struggled to control all 3 games against a championship side, bottom of the PL Burnley and Midtable Southampton. Not won any of them.

Today he was great for about 35 mins and then vanished second half. Ward Prowse and Romeu bossed us in the second.

Maybe some stuff should just be thought not actually said out loud. If some on here trying to lie to themselves about being able to neutrally evaluate a player who joined the club almost 6 years ago for a world record fee then that isn't really better than other people taking hair cuts into account.

I for one love Pogba as a player type. The combination of physical power and natural talent is astonishing and great to watch. It isn't his fault, that United is in the rough during all his time. But that also doesn't change that him not changing his playstyle to be better adjusted to the actual needs is at least disappointing. If you want to talk about just one specific game, I get it, then I shouldn't bring up his contract situation and his supposed lack of dedication. But we live in a complex world full of context. And when I see that he gets high ratings highlighting his good contributions today, then I feel the need to put context into it. Undoubtedly he can't beat other teams alone and the United midfield is a reputation crusher at this point but it is for a reason. And one of the reasons is a player who always fell a little short on expectations while having a very very active followship trying to big up the "only world class player in the United squad". But after 5 years and many attempts to bring out the best of him, some on here can't act as if the last years just didn't happen.

He's been the best United player since he returned from injury. There's definitely a bias against Pogba. Possibly due to his contract situation and injury record. He's also had to endure playing with some of the worst partners in the middle of the pitch. How Ralf can move him in a defensive role when the team is going for a goal is beyond my understanding. No Fred or Matic on the bench should have meant Jones come on and played in front of the defence.

The agenda has been there for years. Back handed compliments galore.

I just find it weird. I have no emotional feelings towards any of the players. Just a view on how they perform. But yeah I accept people don’t like him and that goes in to every post they make regardless of how he performs.

This is pure agenda driven drivel.

We utterly dominated Middlesborough with him on pitch. Created 7 clear cut chances. Even missed a penalty that he won. Our profligacy being the only reason we didn't win at a canter. Losing our way entirely after he left tired Yet here you are blatantly lying that we struggled to control the game and trying to imply its his problem

Same story vs Burnley. But for a brief 15 min spell in second half in which they scored. We utterly dominated Burnley. Wasted up to 4 clear cut chances. He even scored our goal. He was at the heart of everything good we did till he tired. Yet here you are lying some more that wre truggled to control the game and it id his fault.

Even worse is your assesment for today

Today he was great for about 35 mins and then vanished second half. Ward Prowse and Romeu bossed us in the second.
What utterly idiotic drivel. Pogba was litterally the ONLY midfieldrr dping his jpb all gane tilld he tired. Alone. Once again he is the reason we scored and was behibd every good move we wasted. Buts some how in your agenda addled mind its his fault that bruno and mctominah absconded duty and romeu and ward prowse becane dominate.

Some of you need to get a bloody grip on reality. Instead of living in fantasy land
