Even without getting into any specifics you just can't say he justifies his place in the team at the moment. He's offering nothing going forward and costing us at the back.

Ignore his name and look at his performances , he needs to be taken out of the side

This 100%.

Ignore the fact he's a superstar and just focus on his performances and you should come to the conclusion he is simply not offering enough at the moment.

Garbage performance from him.

Only shows up for 1/3 of the season and yet his fanboys will blame everyone else but him for his shitty performances.

The reflex argument is genuinely embarrassing. Only makes sense if you literally have never watched any other football match and not seen players trained to keep their hands down.

Followed in the idiot stakes by randomly naming hand balls from Uniteds past that were absolutely nothing like pogbas embarrassing fannying at a dead ball that came from over ten yards away.

Give over with the excuses. He served up shite and followed it with shite two games in a row where he gave the opposition the lead.

Dont forget the Southampton game where he gave the ball away leading to a goal. He is a liability in our half of the pitch.

He is good as an impact sub, like game against spurs where he came on and made a difference. He doesnt work hard enough for 90 mins, loses the ball too often. Vastly overrated player.

The natural human instinct is to protect your face. The ball was hit fiercely you forget at that split moment you're going to give a penalty away. Besides that, he admittedly had a poor game. Gary Neville is setting a narrative against Pogba. He never criticised his favourites once in the match even though they had worse games.

Sorry, but that's horseshit. If you're switched on at a free kick like that, you're aware that you may have to block the ball, you have your hands down, you're ready for a whack.

There's a reason why it's Pogba that has hand balled there and not Keane or Vieira, or even Mark Noble. There's a reason why Tony Adam's broke his nose so often, and never hid behind "human instinct".

Pogba switched off, and in switched off mode his natural reaction was cowardly.

Look at the reaction of the player beside him in the wall (Martial?) He keeps his hands by his side and turns his back. Not the sort of alpha male stuff Neville deems necessary but at least he helped protect the goal and won’t ever conced a pen.

Nobody (apart from G Nev) is expecting Pogba to take it in the face - and it’s human nature to flinch - but to refuse to even risk letting the ball hit him on any part of his body was pure cowardice.

Terrible action, although I imagine - instinctive, for the penalty. Was a meh game other than that. I am not a fan of this standing in front of the defence and playing 10 yard passes routine either. He needs to be trying to affect the game more, otherwise we could have a lesser player there instead.

The mistake is unfortunate and I don't blame him for that but his performance was largely safe and not what we needed, we needed him to stand up and be counted and he largely shyed away from making things happen.

I say this as a fan of his, I was defending him at half time because I felt people wanted him to get ktfo by that shot. However, he could've bounced back and took the game by the scruff of the neck, he didn't.

Aside from the mistakes, in terms of performance, I'm not sure what people are expecting from him.

I've been complaining about his performances for some time, but I'm noticing a pattern. He's spent most of the time picking the ball up at the halfway line, right next to Lindelof and Maguire, and there is absolutely nobody to pass to. It's also very easy to mark our midfielders out of the game.

The option he predominantly has is either backwards, wide to Wan-Bissaka, or Bruno coming so deep they're passing to each other. The one time he did make a run, he placed the pass that initiated the goal, and his movement pulled players with him in the process. I don't believe that a player with a natural inclination to move forward is not doing so out of choice.

He does have his weaknesses, but I'm feeling his role is basically making him nonexistant to the game.

Im now of the opinion we could have Toni Kroos in central midfield and he would struggle to do anything.
Yawn. More excuses for Pogba FC.

So? Fred never makes anything happen.
Agreed, unless you want more sideway passing
Fred for matic not pogba

I get that pogba cost us the goal and I’m fuming about that but with him on the pitch he’s a threat. Players didn’t get the ball to him quick enough, Maguire matic and Lindelof took so long releasing the ball today

Don't act like you've never seen Scotty McT or Fred play.

I've seen them in great form pre lockdown, they were a key part of our form long before pogba came back to fitness. At the very least they've shown nothing less than pogba has since the restart
Are they better players? No, but at this point in time I think they deserve to start over pogba. Even as a token 'kick up the backside'

I'm not a pogba hater by any stretch btw but the guy is costing us goals and regularly giving up chances with his sloppy play at what point do you act?

At the end of the day we can't simply look past the fact we paid 89m, the most paid for any player at this time, for someone who can't be the main man, can't play without a proper defensive midfielder, and needs another creative force beside him in order to play well, pretty much needs to never be in the center of action and has to be the second or third man in the team just to perform well and he will still not perform consistently.

It's very, very disappointing whatever way you look into it.

His talent is far more than enough to be the dominant force in a team but he'll never achieve this.

He was just very casual and awful today, like he was playing a friendly. The pen was pathetic, just shows a lack of concentration there with him seeming been caught off-guard to such a degree.

Also, the Matic and Pogba partnership is only good for when we dominate possession, it is not a good partnership when we are forced to defend.

A big decision needs to be made for the next game, cause we can't afford another performance like that.

Handba ! What a nothing performance from one of our best players. To me it looked like he impersonated Lingard in central midfield - running around doing nothing specific. He wasnt good at defending nor attacking. Bruno was just as bad though.

We lose his best qualities unless Pogba plays in a 4-3-3 and not in a double pivot.

Still looks like a player that doesn't want to be here. Came back after a long injury all fired up and ready to prove a point. Had a few good games, reminded the world that he's still a class player and then panned off again. Probably doesn't care too much if we don't get CL as us failing will make it easier for him to get his move. I've defended him all along but he really needs to leave.

Spare me the agony, those two are useless. I'd ever have the word great with either of them. Didn't they play recently? We're you impressed? We need better players in the squad.

I can only assume he wasnt focussing or paying attention properly on the free kick because there is no excuse for a professional footballer putting your hands there. Sadly rather than being a wake up call he seemed off focus the rest of the game too.
A really really depressing day.
I Was annoyed earlier seeing the local pub flying bleeding Leeds flags as they all crawl out of the woodwork (And I live 40 miles from the place) I then come home to watch that.

I'm not defending him, but I do think the handball was as a result of a brainfart rather than cowardice, as people are saying. If he had enough time to raise his hands he had enough to either duck or dip to one side. As it was, he seemed like he froze a bit.

Embarrassing performance. Astonishing handball to give away the penalty then barely any reaction in the 2nd half.

It's not just the fact that he cost an unnecessary penalty but he also pulled out of a 50/50 challenge, I dont think this is the mentality from someone that plays in midfield that is going help drive us to win league and European trophies, far too much of a luxury player that needs a lot if accommodation and still hardly delivers for the club.

He was shite but Neville was right. He should’ve been pushed twenty yards up the pitch.

Better off without him when he's playing like that. Fred or mctominay at least shouldn't directly cost us goals.

You could be onto something there.

Gaha I seriously love this argument. As if he wasn't worse than he's ever been when we played 433 under Mourinho. There's never enough excuses for this guy.

Shocking, shocking performance today. Only Williams was anywhere near as bad, but he doesn't have a legion of soldiers ready to defend him to the hilt no matter what stupid things he does or how shit he plays. It's hilarious.

Really, i don't see the end of the world if he's sold tbh. He clearly doesn't want to be here.

It's a fecking joke. Look how far away he is too. Look how far out his arms are. It's all a mentality thing with Pogba. We laugh at Souness for how he is, but he's spot on when it comes to Pogba. He's a player who doesn't have the awareness, the football intelligence, the work rate, nor the desire to actually make use of his talent. All key things for a central midfielder. Just a mediocre player because of the mental aspects of the game.

Always talk about him going to Madrid or whatever. Hilarious. He'd flop because he is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is nor the reputation he has.

I think this is oversimplified. Pogba might have picked up the flight of the ball too late which is reasonable depending on a few factors e.g. blocked sightlines (Fernandes?), flight of ball w.r.t eyeline, starting position, focus, and expected ball flight. Let's not ignore that the shot was blasted in the wrong direction.

I don't disagree we need better players, doesn't change my point though.

If you think we should continue to pick pogba even when he's poor and costing us points then fine. I think we should give someone else a try, at the very least they shouldn't be as dead on their feet as everyone else is and I don't believe they can be any worse at this point

I've defended him throughout the last 2-3 years, especially under Mourinho when he was constantly getting flack because he was easily our best player and when he played usually he'd be the one creating or scoring.

I don't know if he's just tired due to all the games, but he's looked very laboured lately. He's noticeably bulkier too - I don't think that helps. Football is one of those sports that usually being lean is more helpful than being bulky.

I'm not really sure if I like him as a deeper midfielder either, I think his best is in Bruno's current position. But he doesn't track back as much as Bruno does which doesn't help his cause in playing in that position. I think he needs a rest, I'm still not in the 'sell he's lazy' camp as talent wise he's one of our best. Without him, who do we play, Fred? Not in the same ball park.

So many people have been saying it for so long, but the fan boys just refuse to accept the fact that United cannot win anything with Pogba in the team. He is one the most careless and temperamental footballers you could ever see. You don't win trophies with such players as your key players. You need reliable players like Scholes, KdB for that.
United need to find a buyer for this guy asap along with De Gea too.

My point is we do give them a try and what they provide is well below what we need.

If Real Madrid come up with something over £100m, I would take it.

He’s great when he decides to play. But he’s never one who is going to change the game or win us games on his own. Plays when the team is playing well.
