He is a top player still but not the right fit for this United team unfortunately. We needed a massive rebuild in 2016 but instead we've bought an icing on the cake player. Pogba can elevate an already good team into great one but can't change a poor team into a good one.

This is seeming more and more of an apt analogy. Very good point.

Like having desert but no dinner and wondering why you are hungry

lol, Gylfi fecking Sigurdsson cost 60m. Pogba isn't in great form but feck me there's some shite being talked here lately.

Isn't that the point though.

Sigurdsson wasn't worth £60mil in the first place, and, his subsequent form would make it (almost) impossible for him to be sold at a profit. Secondly, and as an aside, this was a transfer between 2 English clubs, our market is completely different.

We were the only club interested in the numbers for the Pogba deal, not only the transfer fee but also the work that needed to be done with the agent. This was also coming off a sustained period of success for Pogba and Juve. I don't see how, our / his current situation warrants a dramatic increase in fee - which we will undoubtedly want due his contract length / supposed importance to our team / twitter appeal (shudders)

So, it will result in us keeping a player who doesn't really want to be here.

Transfer money have gone up since we bought him thanks to Neymar deal. We can still cash on him well, for 100m or though.

I use to attend Manchester United academy and reserve games when Pogba was in his first spell with the club (pre Juventus hype) and I still see the same raw indisciplined player.

He has the arrogance of a Ronaldo or Messi but who is Paul Pogba!? he is not at that level yet and if he doesn't keep working hard enough and keeps chasing skirt in Manc he will never reach that level.. he will be like Quaresma or Ravel Morrison (remember him!? yes the lad who was considered the best talent in the Academy even bigger than Pogba at one point!).. all the talent in the World but not the mental attitude.

He wants to hold onto the ball too long to release it, so all it takes is a big bruising midfield to get in his face, ruffle him him up a bit and that's him out of the game.. classic British hard-work beating talent style. Veron was the same.. just not suited to OUR British way.

I just think his spell with Juventus has fooled people into believing he can be on Messi and Ronaldo levels.. I don't think he can.. he is a luxury player who needs a ready-made team to perform. Problem will always be for the price-tag we paid he will always be judged on Messi/Ronaldo levels.

I miss the Manchester United having a British core.. who understood what it meant to wear the shirt.. as you knew win, lose or draw they gave it there all.. you can't say the same for this lot.

I think the biggest criticism I can say about Pogba yesterday, was in the second half I had forgotten he was even playing, he was so anonymous. Was not too bad in the first half, but then disappeared.

I see he is all over Insta with Evra maybe Paddy can remind him of what it means to play for United

He has league titles and just won the world up and scored in the final. He's one of the best midfielders in the world. He has faults but is not surrounded by a lot of quality and jose is trying figure things out.

I have seen him score some belters for Juventus but not even one for Man Utd. He used to put his boot though the ball before but rarely does it for us. It's more of side foot shots which could be easily saved. As @Blackice64 mentioned, every time he's rattled he feels like he need to prove a point by holding off the ball for too long to show of strength. He does not understand the perfect way to reply back is by assisting or scoring . Very easy to throw him off the game.

You are trying to make out they won those things because of him, and really it was because of the other players a lot more.

3 times in Serie A team of the year in 4 seasons.
1 time assist leader
1 time in the UEFA XI team of the year
1 time in the FIFA XI team of the year
2 times in the top 20 of the ballon d'or list
Easily put one of the best midfielder in the world at that time on the bench ( Marchisio )

And he was very young ( 20-23 )

The revisionism here is funny

What absolute drivel. First of all, there will probably never again be another Messi or Ronaldo in this life-time - so who cares? Secondly, the guy just won the World Cup and you mention him in the same sentence as Quaresma and Morrison!? Shame on you, no respect for those who deserve it. Does Pogba have tons of stuff to work with? Sure, all players do - but it doesn’t hide the fact that he is best and most important player by far.

Tbf, Kleberson, Roque Junior, Barone and Podolski have won World Cups.

Respect is earned. I don't care what he contributed to France's win, I only care about what he does for us.

Should be dropped.

Jose has no qualms about dropping other players under performing quickly.

We’re going to get these stories all season. Pogba wanting to leave in Jan/summer. You can’t just blame his agent now, Pogba has the choice of dropping Raiola but he chooses to let it happen

Any Pogba to Juve rumours can safely be ignored. The only way he leaves is if Barca or Real pay £200m. Juve would probably try a loan with an option to buy for £15m, with us paying wages of course.

Is that you Paul ?

I agree he’s dropped Bailly lindelof martial Mata and rashford why not pogba? The only thing of note
he’s done is take the ball off Sanchez for a pen who ironically could have done with scoring a goal.

.
He was as entitled to that pen as Sanchez. Perhaps even more as he was captain and it gave him the opportunity to lead by example.

I wonder how he'd look in that Liverpool midfield. As much as it hurts to say this, he'd probably look twice the player if he took Henderson's place with those players buzzing around him.

Henderson is mediocre but he pulls his own weight in midfield. He doesn’t drift around aimlessly trying to dribble the opposition on the edge of his won box.

He would be dropped because he doesn't play with high intensity or press like Klopp wants from his players.

He could have put these stories to bed after Leiceater match but decided to bitch in the media then put in 2 disasteous performance. I think this rumor is BS, as Juve took the 100m and ran away, why would they pay more for him now ? but I can't blame the media on this as Pogba and his fat agent put the chance for them on a golden plate.

Really wish they'd sell him. I have my doubts he wanted to return to United and would rather be in Spain. Just that his greedy agent wanted the massive payoff that he suckered out of United. Apart from maybe 2 or 3 performances he's been average at best. Fergie was right to let him go in the first place as his game is more suited to the laid back pace of Italy or Spain.

Barca seems interested so why not? I dont want him near Real Madrid even for free though, he is everything I dislike about modern players.

People think he was really important in the WC title for France but to be honest Kanté was ten times more impressive than Pogba during the competition.

That means we'd have to rely on Lingard or Mata to carry the creative burden from midfield. Can't blame Jose for not dropping him.

Let's not hatred re-write history. Kanté was great, as was Pogba. His current United shit form shouldn't change what happened in the summer. That was a serious , focused and hardworking Pobga. For some reason the same cannot be replicated at United.
No surprise Madrid wouldn't be seriously interested (from a football POV at least) because honestly unless he focuses like during the world cup, I don't see how he'd be of use to Real Madrid when all their starting midfielders are better suited for them

The thing he needs most is a kick up his ass every single time he throws a bitch fit.

Great player when he can be arsed, but hardly worth the baggage he brings along with his antics and agent.

From the outside looking in I'd compare him to Özil. You add Pogba or Özil to an already elite side with other world class players next to him and they look amazing. Count on them to shoulder the load as the main man in side that isn't quite as good and they struggle.

As you saw for France when he was flanked by Kante & Matuidi. As you saw at Juve with the other midfielders they had.

This is a pretty good reading. Mourinho was right in saying, "I hope Paul knows why he was so good in the World Cup." Granted it was stupid of him to say it to the press, the point is 100% correct. Pogba is a luxury player.

I reckon the players are piling on the pressure to get Jose out. Pogba must fancy working with Zidane, how could he not?

This guy isnt yet anywhere near as good as he, his agent or many of his fans think he is yet though he can be if he stops playing like a raw, promising 19 year old. Yes he played well for France in the world cup but it was not all domineering and show stealing midfield performance after midfield performance in it nor did he single handedly drag them to the title if we are being honest. At Juve too he had enough buffers around him in Vidal,Pirlo and Marchisio to do all the heavy lifting for him which allowed him to shone with the youtube worthy screamers (which he has hardly scored for us BTW) and flicks and tricks. Don't get me wrong, I don't want us to sell him because for one he is a very good player and for another we would not recoup the fee we paid for him IMO without being able to replace him but he has a lot of maturing to do. It's considered somewhat offensive here but the comment someone made the other day about wannabe rappers and snapchat, instagram stars masquerading as footballers is somewhat true in his case.

There’s absolutely no chance Kante was ten times more impressive. Pogba had an excellent WC.

As did Kante, in spite of his terrible 45 min. showing in the final.

Is Pogba worth more than we paid for him? Yes. Does it appear if the rumours are right that the best football team in the world want him in? Yes Would they have to break their transfer record to buy him? Probably

Amazing how this piss poor, fake, social media loving, over hyped, selfish, luxury, not world class footballer is good enough for them but not for us? Everything that he was criticised about, he proved at the WC that was complete rubbish on the biggest stage in football. He wasn't alone though, the other often criticised players - Rom was a beast, Lindelof was solid and consistent, and even Fellaini was a game changer (plan B) for Belgium.

I say rather the usual knee-jerk responses, ask why Barca would think he's good enough for them yet we think he's not good enough for his. Think about the nature of the football we are playing and ask yourself would you be happy to come back to it after the WC. Compare the players here against the players at Barca, who would you prefer to play with?

He's not a fan, he's a employee of the club. Why should he have to think like one. If I wasn't a fan, I'd have left years ago...

The problem is here and not Pogba, Rashford, Martial, Sanchez, Rom, Bailly........

This is what happens when we aren't winning football matches.

Wow, this about a guy who just won the World Cup. People can be short sighted and how!

Great post. I was actually looking forward to this season based on the performances of our players in the WC. I'm hoping this is only a bad patch - which our players will overcome quickly over the next few weeks. Now that we are chasers (and cant afford to drop points), it should motivate the team even more.

Also, this poor start was bound to happen with the level of negativity around the club in pre-season. These things always have an impact. A happy group of players is much better than a disjointed squad. Spending time together as a team again will also resolve some of those issues.
