Ignored a couple of runs tonight, but i have no problem with it, whenever he gallops forward i feel we could score.

Very disciplined game from him, just an all round beast of a player.

Yes, this is why the obsession with Ibras time here sometimes annoys me. I get it, legendary striker joining us and getting a pretty good return but he was really crap at times and at the expense of the team and other players too. He missed many chances Pogba created for him IIRC.

Tbf though, our most pleasant displays under Jose came with ibra in the team. The moment he got injured, our displays turned to shit.

Criminal wastefulness though and was the top for missing big chances iirc, Pogba would have had a monster of a first season assist wise if not.

I thought it was extremely noticeable that he went from having a poor game to being our best player after Sanchez got subbed off.

Nothing to do with Sanchez being subbed. The two injuries to their CBs allowed a lot more space for him to drive into. In fact before Koscielny got hurt he was running at the heart of their centre. Ole clearly told him that the Arsenal midfield had pushed higher up chasing the equaliser allowing very little cover.

Iwobi going off actually allowed us more space as Ozil is just a lazy bastard

Central midfielder.

They're world class stats even forgetting that he was in Jose's doghouse for a substantial portion of the season.

I get some of the criticism he is getting but the way I look at it is there are not a lot of players who could have broke like that through the middle with such ease. It let off so much pressure on us and without it, we would have been in trouble. Thought in that context he was bloody remarkable and in my mind, he is playing exactly like a worldclass player. No doubt the best cm in world football since Ole took over.

So basically I think people got to remember we would have been struggling in that game without him. He gives us something that so few football players are even capable of doing on there best day.

Also, his work rate to get up and down was something to behold. Only thing is he may have burned himself out for Tuesday as none of our players ran under Jose so to be covering the distance they are now would be taking a toll on them imo.

What he showed against Arsenal was a further dimension to his game which I for one, didn't think he had.

Fantastic performance and yes we now have a world class midfielder!

His strike prior to Martials goal was a proper ice hockey goal. Fantastic shot that forced a rebound to Martial. I love him.

Not poor but quiet and yeah it's obvious that he can't play at his best with Sanchez.
I already said that before the game and some clowns said that Pogba doesn't need excuses

Really? You didn’t see it before now?

When he starts striding in midfield he is extremely difficult to stop. Not many midfielders can keep him with him when he’s on one of those surging runs.

He mostly played as LM/AM under Allegri. He even bullied Lahm and Robben in CL with his pace and skills... nothing new.

Ok just thought it was more apparent in the Arsenal game. Most of the time I get the impression he doesn't really get out of a trot.

Pogba has shades of both Ronaldinho and Kaka.

Like Kaka, he just effortlessly glides across the pitch and is devastating on the counter.

Like Ronaldinho, he has an eye for the impossible. He pulls off outrageous skills that other players couldn’t even dream of.

His vision and passing ability is on par with both.

I’m not saying he’s as good as them, but you see a lot of similarities.

Yep, only quiet. A lot of it had to do with all the best opportunities falling into the lap of our other attackers.

Parts of his play is truly world class. No doubt. And he's our best outfield player without a question.

Has some major flaws to his game though, so he needs to play in his current role, him in a two-man midfield is a disaster

Interesting comparisons. I echo those sentiments.

For me historically the player he most resembles is Didi. Very technical midfielder with so much silks and just needs free roam role from midfield. Both have incredible range of passing and sublime dribbling and so much flair.

Didi better at dictate tempo and Pogba more of a threat physically but a lot of similarities IMO in that they’re very unorthodox CMs and need to be free spirits.

@Gio @Fortitude thoughts on that comparison?

Not his best game and made a few wrong decisions that could have cost us but thankfully it worked out well in the end.

Having said that I think it was his most mature performance I have seen in a utd shirt.
The game against Tottenham he was gassed by 70/75 minutes and was a passenger and used up too much energy bursting forward, Against arsenal I thought he picked the right times and managed his game perfect in terms of bursting forward.
He needs to have gas in the tank in the latter stages of games because no one can live with his power and drive to get forward when spaces open up in the last stages of a game.

Would you play Matic in Pogba's role ?

I think Paul has the talent, the body shape and the skills to be our leader on the pitch. Something like Yaya Toure, 5-6 years ago for City. I totally see him doing that job, moving the ball from the midfield to the attack, plus scoring at least 10 goals each season. Just needs to be a little bit more serious and to have freedom from our next manager (it we don't stick to Ole) and he can develop in an absolute beast.

For all his brilliance, it is now kinda important that we find a plan b in case he is either injured or suspended. Since he has become so critical to our game in terms of creativity, his absence can really set us back in terms of momentum and opportunities.

Just been reading a few pages of some posts after Southampton game earlier this season On the threadmark. To amuse myself.
Really made me laugh. All the knee jerk reactions .

What? No, and not Pogba in Matic's role. But, in a Two man midfield i'd play Matic over Pogba

in a two man midfield i'd play Dier over Eriksen, Casemiro over Isco...
Maybe you should open your eyes and see Pogba as an AM wasted in a defensive position by Mourinho... even if he's tall and black ;)

Who cares if he's a disaster in a two midfield ? and it's not even true ( WC ) but he's definitely better in an AM role.
