That run from deep was majestic. If he's going to do that then he'll be a force to be reckoned with this season, much better attitude and not surprised by a much better performance. The dancing stuff is a bit naff but honestly, who even gives a shite about anyone getting foamy about that. Tell them to jog on, as they should be doing.

Totally agree. His play was spectactular.

Makelele is talking as if elaborate goal celebrations are a new thing. Lee Sharpe was doing it whilst Paul Pogba was still pissing the bed. I remember Giggs and Ince had ones they did together too.

If Makelele ever watch an NFL game, his head might combust. Sport is entertainment. Fans want to see a certain amount of showmanship.

Absolutely! Loved The Sharpey Shuffle and his Three Amigos celebration. It’s a bit of fun*

*The Giggs and Ince one was fecking awful

His celebration doesn’t work for me, but as long as he is enjoying playing for United who gives a s**t what people like me think.

My generation are out of touch on this type of thing anyway,
although I still think Eric had the best celebrations.

The point is it’s harmless fun, many enjoy it, I will be very happy to cringe frequently, if he is scoring and enjoying his football, we must be winning.

I really couldn’t give a shit about his celebrations. He could get his old boy out, swing it around above his head, and then lasso Lingard round the neck with it for all I care.

The lad is a quality footballer and that is all I care about.

Great post granddad!

I agree. Let the players have fun.

Exactly mate. I’m an old fart that doesn’t get it either, but it doesn’t bother me at all.

The guy is jovial, funny, talkative, charismatic or should I just say he is full of character. He likes to entertain people.

Making jokes, dancing, spread a little bit of fun in everyone's life. Pretty much like how Muhammad Ali, The Rock, Steve Austin, Connor McGregor (he's a bit shyte to be honest), Freddie Mercury...some people are born to entertain.

Why should he be other person than himself just for the sake of making others "happy"? He shouldn't.

Paul Pogba is a character, and we should embrace it.

Just be yourself Pogba, you can do whatever you want. Ignore the hate, cringe hatred thrown at you.

Pogba gets so much abuse from all angles its actually ridiculous. It's as bad as I can remember for any player, even Cantona kicked a fan in the chest and didn't get this much abuse.

I just hope our own fans ease up on him now and get behind him, he deserves it.

To me, the Spurs match is his first real examination under Ole. He has been the pick of the litter under Ole and deserves all of his praises.

But when the chips are down and United are facing real adversity and a real advisary, what will we see? If he's getting marked out of the match, can he make enough contributions, not get frustrated and be the match winning player he needs to be? He's done it before like he did against City, Spurs last year when he mugged Dembele, but consistent performances at the highest levels against all oppositions are what makes true, world class players. He's not going to be scoring or assisting every match (we wish he could!), but impacting the match in other ways against top teams is crucial to his development and United moving forward under Ole/next permanent manager.

We've seen the worst of Pogba and we're seeing the best. Need the consistency to show up throughout matches and a campaign. I sound critical because I am and because it's a turning point for him and the club. Scary thing is, Pogba can improve. Consistency at his high performance level against all types of competition is his next level, which if he meets it, he will be bona-fide world class. Would love nothing more to see Pogba become world class at United and winning major trophies at the club.

If Pogba continues anywhere near his previous 3 match form for the duration of the season, I dare United not to implement Ole as permanent manager.

You must have a really short memory!

What abuse is Pogba getting? People criticising his dancing?

In all seriousness, how much goals do you guys expect from Pogba this season in this current form?

I'm expecting at least 15 goals.

I hope he can play with the same swagger against Spurs. Under Jose, we sat deep and let the opposition have the ball. Players like Pogba will obviously struggle to shine in such a system. But now, we can go toe to toe with these teams and the open play style will suit him a lot.

He has 7 goals now I think. So getting another 8 in the second half shouldn't be that difficult barring injuries. It all depends on whether we can continue playing the same way for the rest of the season.

If Pogba keeps it so simple against Spurs, not complicating everything, he would be unstoppable no doubt, no one can stop him with his pass, if they try to stop his prefered feet, he'll use weak foot to make a long-range passing which he usually does and is stronger at shielding balls under pressure, he's key to our midfield battle. I am excited to see how we can play when we take our game to Spurs and try to play them off the park.

Imagine if Pogba did that. Cantona came back to a heroe's welcome! Keano deliberately broke another professional's leg and some previous legends abused alcohol and beat women. Heroes all of them, but Pogba can't dance. Sell him!

I don't understand having any possible outrage or annoyance of a goal celebration, especially when its our own player winning us a game of football. Silly. He is such a fantastic player to watch when he is focused on his football. His pace and his use of strength combined with magnificent technique and touches is something unique and beautiful to watch.

What a Muppet .

You just know people will use this to throw more vitriol against Pogba and claim that Makelele did similar so it can't be racist. Even though what Makelele says here is not necessarily racist, it's continuing the extremely negative tone surrounding Pogba, a lot of which is driven by racial bias. He's not the first or last player to have elaborate celebrations. Personally I enjoy them and can't wait for him to score more goals to see what new dances he pulls off :D

I don't think you can put it down as purely a generational thing given Sharpe was being cringey decades ago. It's not like he only had one move either. Part of it is just some people really enjoy being foolish. The other part of it is generational, certainly - I don't understand why anyone who follow a "celebrity" on Instagram, but clearly he has many followers and he does many things purely for the camera. The reality is though, people doing silly dances has existed for decades. Pogba does it more often but he hasn't invented it.

He has 9. Even 20 is gettable. 15 would be a big improvement on previous seasons though.

Some people are miserable bastards. I'd rather he be smiling and dancing, shows that he's happy. The French national team are always singing and dancing, and they won the World Cup.

"Oh, but gosh, Makelele is old school. He doesn't know any better. It was a different era then"

Rehearsed football celebrations were as much a thing in the 90's as they are now. Claude Ukulele should pipe it down and keep those ridiculous opinions to himself, and even if it was elaborate and over-indulgent, so what? Pogba doesn't have to live his life worried about what some boring anachronistic dufus thinks.

You must be new here, just go back and look at any Pogba centric thread near the end of Jose's tenure. Countless abuse and venom aimed at our best player once it was rumored that his relationship with a renowned clasher of star personalities and dressing room destroyer, Jose, had broken down.

His character was being thrown into question as well as his professionalism which was never questioned at any of his previous clubs or NT's. He was actually singled out and booed at home by some fickle fans at OT as well

It would take having ones head buried in sand to not see that he's the most scrutinised player in the world at the moment now that the media was forced to lay off Raheem Sterling.

It's pretty mental how even when he's in great form and enjoying himself he still can't escape some sort of public personal critique, there's always people grasping for something to be offended by with him. From his style,jovial/bubble and extroverted demeanor or his playing style and not scoring like a forward

That's why I have no issue with however he wants to celebrate/dance as I know it makes his detractors blood boil seeing him doing well and having fun

Just had a 20minutes Twitter session after a long while and to my big suprise I’ve seen plenty top reds still going after Pogba, calling him all sorts and anyone that disagrees is free to fight them at the ground. Huge bunch of ‘old school’ morons we have within our fanbase, unfortunately. Seems like the chap on here was right and Jose quite possibly divided our fans for years to come, same as with Madrid.

The toxic one's triennial demise at the club really brought to light how many gullible idiots there are in the fanbase with the way individual players were shown abuse by segments of their own fanbase.

We'd still be in the gutter as a club with sales of our best players on the cards if the board had listened to the fickle element of the fanbase and continued to back the most venomous individual in modern football

I just find instances like this embarrassing and laughable. Its AFTV levels.

Mourinho isn't a hypnotist. Fans behaving like that must be held responsible for their own behaviour/actions.

It's a dangerous precedent to set to simply blame Mourinho for everything wrong at our club, especially the behaviour of grown adult fans.

Whats the difference between Pogba dancing, and Crouch or Sturridge doing the robot dance, or Ronaldinho doing a Brazilian dance etc?
Whats the difference between Pogba dancing and players doing front flips etc?
Whats the difference between Pogba dancing and players sliding on the floor etc?

I would like to know that because I just don't get it and it seems like again a lazy narrative from a pundit yet again. Why is this showboating and over forms of goal celebrations are not?

Why are Dele Alli and Son not being criticised for their goal celebrations?

Well we didn't hear much in terms of abuse until Jose started sending thinly veiled digs and having a go at certain players in press conferences and interviews so the timing of such reactions from fans was less than coincidental in my eyes.

I don't know where you got the notion that I blame everything wrong with the club on one man,far from it. The board has had a history of questionable decision making post Fergie, not least of which has been their choice of managers. I blame Jose for the noxious cloud that hovered over the club since last summer's preseason as well as the shite football, not for any structural issues with the club.

So you think these people's behaviour is actually Mourinho's fault, rather than their own...?

Its still up to fans to be objective about the players and also the manager. So if fans turned on players, they are responsible for it, it was their choice
