How many world class players have we? Sanchez is new to the team, still finding his feet. He has been very disappointing, but was disappointing for Arsenal this year too. Pogba started the season fantastically well - does Jose get no credit for that? Nope, he just gets abuse when Pogba plays badly. De Gea has improved markedly every year, I guess Jose probably had nothing to do with that either. Martial is a better player too.
De Gea was player of the year for 2 years in a row before JM arriving. Even Martial was our best attacking player in LVG's last year.

Your point? You asked who improved. Both have improved. Whether or not De Gea was our best player 2 years in a row before JM arrived is irrelevant. He is a better player now.

With regard to Lukaku, you only see improvement based upon stats, so look at Martial. His best season pre Jose: 2632 minutes, 11 goals, 4 assists. This year: 1346 minutes, 9 goals, 5 assists. Those are just league stats, didn't bother with europe. So, he's involved in more goals per minute than he was. But I guess ... even though Lukaku has regressed, based on lesser stats .. you won't see that Martial has improved, based on far better stats.

People are talking like Lukaku has had some kind of RVP season. I've been underwhelmed overall. His touch isn't great and he doesn't really link up play or hold up play at an above decent level. We look disjointed and I'd worry we won't get fluid football with him in the team. He's scored goals and recently upped his work rate but let's not pretend this has been the case all season. There was a time where the crowd was on his back for losing the ball and not working hard enough. Only Jose came out in support of Lukaku. People here are talking like Pogba can't pass a ball and strolls around every game. He's had a bad time since the spurs game that's for sure.

The exact sort of positions he should be picking up for United. It worked vs Everton on New Years Day. The ability he has is unbelievable, this talk of him leaving is ridiculous

The only issue is that he's rarely given that much space and time in the PL. He was given a clear pass angle, which is also rare for him to find.

Lukaku should make more runs like Mbappe did there. Pogba will find him and the others easily if they make runs off the ball. He's very capable of playing on the shoulder of the last defender but our team have a tendency to kick the ball long to him. Sometimes it's important to switch things up.

That's entirely untrue. It was the case at the start of the season, but as the season has progressed it's got better and better. Has been excellent for a couple of months now.

He is still highly erratic with his technique. What has changed in recent weeks is a much more aggressive and confident Lukaku, more decisive as well, not just in his finishing but identifying what he wants to with the ball in general play. Also the fact that of all our big names and supposed leaders he is the one to have stepped up and performed in big games. Pogba and Sanchez have gone the other way.

* Friendly

He played really well in the meaningless friendly against England also.

Recently. It's like football was invented two months ago.

Ok if you think his touch and Passing is world class.

Exactly. Some would say he has improved ... perhaps he has even been improved by our manager. That's just some, of course ;)

Sorry, way off topic.

Handbrake off, freedom to express yourself, a goal and a different performance as of late. It isn't rocket science.

He has improved from early in the season, its hard to argue that he has had a better season than last year.......sorry for adding to your off topicness.

Nah. In instances like this, the player must have done it themselves.

I hope this is the break when he recovers his form for our club

It's one of those things that gets repeated so often that it becomes accepted as fact, despite being completely wrong.

Pogba at Juventus was not 'free' he was incredibly disciplined, hard working, tactically astute. This was of course helped by a master tactician of a manager, but he himself has shown during his time at United under a similarly tactically aware manager that he can do it.

Pogba if he could maintain the consistent level of the first half of the season, would be one of the best midfielders in the world. I have maintained that Pogba is experiencing a drop in form, and there is not a tactical problem with him. The only position Pogba would be out of position is in Matic's position as the deepest midfielder that protects the defense. Pogba has never played as a dedicated DM, his skillset is perfectly acceptable for a top CM.

You can't deny he has neglected defensive responsibilities at United recently. If it is not a flaw in his game then it is a matter of just ignoring his manager's wishes, which is probably much worse. It would also explain why he has been benched by Mourinho.

Did I miss a comment or has no one else picked up on his under shirt dedicated to his father?

A handful thought his form could be related to the upcoming one year anniversary of his fathers passing. That’s an important milestone in a lot of cultures. If it is that that’s what has been weighing Paul down, how would you feel?

For me, I’d be quite sympathetic to that. And of course would see my resentment of the media grow for spewing whatever they could to get clicks.

He has also tweeted saying happy birthday to him.

Hmmm. One of the things that made me think this was the look on his face when being subbed in one of our games. He looked distraught. Not a angry at manager or team role look. Seemed a deeper affliction.

The PSG official account commented on his most recent Facebook status. Probably doesn't mean anything but in this social media frenzied world, you never know.

I did too , did you watch the interview with Griezmann where they sort of both asked french medias to not criticize them during the tournament and just support them. As much as I hate the french media, this has gotta be a joke, how the hell can they expect support from journos whose a big part of their job is to analyze (criticize) their performances.

When I compare this weak lot with the ones that won trophies (1984, 1998 and 2000), I mean they couldn't be further apart in terms of mental strength. Our current best players are pussies and snowflakes.

They're so self centered but at the same time they don't wanna be criticized, they don't wanna be talked to. They just wanna be left in their bubbles and anyone who dares telling them anything is a "hater". Their entourage doesn't help either.

Between 3 and 10 there is a bit of a gulf and besides it's Zidane, blasphemy to put him in the same sentence as Pobga

I don't think so, Sanchez was brought probably and partly because Pogba wasn't the superstar the team needed him to be.

The point is goal statistics for MFs mean squat. And your knee-jerk reaction that I'm comparing Zidane's levels of play to Pogba's is part of a larger problem in online forums.

It’s nearly April and you are happy with 3 goals from your world record £90m superstar?

Little tip. If you want to last longer on the forum offer more than WUMing. Otherwise you'll be gone :smirk:
He is a central forward who scored less goals this season. Cant see the progress you are mentioning. Sure he changed his style of play at united, but still not at his best.

As for you two I have to wonder if either:

A) you even watch United play for 90 minutes very often or
B) you actually understand how a game of football works.

Lukaku has been the club's best player in recent weeks and his all round game vastly improved. If you can't see that you really do need to visit your local optometrist as a matter of urgency.

Yeah I have a season ticket in the stretford end, yes he has improved vastly in recent weeks....Pogba's game has fell off a cliff in recent weeks. Sudden recent weeks is the only gauge. My exact point on the Pogba thread where people are talking like Lukaku has been brilliant all season after a run of good form.

So you don't think Lukaku can hold and link up play very well nor does he have a good first touch?
