All of Pogba's best games for United have been with Fellaini in the team.

Don't think so, his best period with us imo was in December when we were winning 6 games in a row and Carrick and Herrera were playing with him.

He had some good games with Fellaini but when another midfielder are supporting them, too. Both alone worked only for the first 3 matches in the season before failing against City and Watford.

When you look at at all his through balls this season and numbers of assists he has, it's really absurd. He must be more pissed with our finishing then Jose. He's had periods of bad form this seasons, but without a doubt his numbers should have been much higher.
Such a talent, entering his peak for a midfielder and it will be great to watch his development.

Also, yesterday was such an important game and with Zlatan out we needed a player to step up and he did it from the first minute.

The best I saw of him in UTD colours yesterday. Wish some of his through balls this seasons were converted to goals and we would be talking about him as the most influential MF in the league.

He pulls off passes that literally nobody in our entire squad is capable of. There are times when he has the ball, and you spot a wonderful but difficult pass opportunity, and he goes ahead and pulls it off. We definitely need to get in another midfielder that's on the same page, and play him in a midfield three. Playing foul machine Fellaini anywhere near him is a complete insult.

I was thinking exactly this. i've seen him create chances out of no where time and time again just for our poor finishing to screw it up. If our strikers had been more clinical this season, not only would be be in the top 4 but we'd all be praising Pogba's assists I swear.

Put a real anchor next to him (Fabinho), switch to a 4-3-3 of Pogba/Herrera/Fabinho so Pogba can push up the pitch more and he'll be a force to be reckoned with next season.

Pogba's problem is players running behind him. If we're playing against a team that sits back at OT, there's no reason he can't play in a midfield two. That way he has the whole game in front of him. It's probably better like that because it means we can have another player in forward areas.
I think another player in a advanced position is part of the problem when we play 4-2-3-1. We end up with too many players (including Pogba) in the same space between midfield and attack. The #10 position becomes very congested. If it was a 4-4-2 with an additional striker and more emphasis on width it might be beneficial to play him in a midfield 2.
My other issue is that I don't think we should be constantly changing formation and tactics. Of course some alterations to tactics are needed depending on opposition and players available but the team looks very disjointed and constant changes in system don't help.

I really struggle to understand how people fail to think Pogba as been impressive this season. He creates so many chances, withstands pressure from the opposition with ease, some of his touches and skills have been a joy to witness.

To those who have criticised his performance level on a whole this season, which central midfielder from the Premier League do you think would have resulted in United being higher up the league right now? Only candidate I can think of is Alli due to his goals, but I think we'd have sacrificed too much of ourselves defensively in swapping him for Pogba.

To me he's as good as anyone in central mid right now. I don't think even Modric, Kroos or Veratti replacing him would have improved our team.

I am really disheartened by the idea of Fellaini getting a new contract, I have no idea why Jose wouldn't look for a better replacement tbh. Fellaini wouldn't start for any good team and him being Pogba's partner is terrible for Pogba
Have I missed something?

I think he's been very good all season, but his performances of late seem like for the first time he's no longer playing to justify the price tag. It was somewhere around the Chelsea match that I felt that he started to play more free, which in a way has made him more disciplined as he's not trying to do too much or show off when he gets the ball.

His strength on the ball is otherwordly. Never seen anything quite like it.

Most fans arent particuarly good at compartmentalising movements within a game. So if Pogba does a fantastic pass to setup our striker but he doesnt score then it doesnt register in most fans minds; they only remember that it was a missed chance. Even more so, if Pogba does a fanstastic pass that allows us to set up a goal it is not noticed because it is early in a movement towards the goal.

The english are also obsessed with goalscoring midfielders; which makes no sense because midfielders are supposed to be the link between the defense and attack; goalscoring is a bonus. David Silva in his prime is a far superior midfielder to Yaya Toure but because Toure scored more goals they ignored his deficiencies (of which there are many).

Paul Pogba has already had several fantastic performances in the Champions League; his is already among the world's elite. He has played in midfield with the likes of Pirlo, Marchisio, Khedira, Vidal. The main reason we got Paul Pogba was because he is one of our own; he was Real Madrid or Barcelona bound.

He was playing leftback for the remainder of the match when Young had to go off injured and he was tidying up the game without fuss. Such a natural footballer he is

His best game for us in a while. Seems to have stepped up after the Chelsea game.

He did step up. Those that have religiously defended him all season are now of course now saying he's been doing this all season and half the forum were blind to it but the truth lays somewhere in between. You only have to look at the posts in this thread over the past few weeks to see that most on here are simply praising him for actual good performances.

I give him a solid 7/10 for this season but he'll be better next year with a proper preseason and better players around him.

Definitely better in a midfield 3.

I remember there was a brilliant compilation of Fabregas' passing around 2008 or 2009. And almost as incredible as his vision and passing ability was Arsenal's finishing, which really stole the show. Well, in Pogba's video, ours is even worse :(

Definitely. Seems to be doing the little things that were holding him back. Less holding the ball for long, quick releases, simple one twos. Defensive contribution and awareness has improved. Has developed an understanding with Herrera. Is also able to use his strength to win aerial duels, something which he surprisingly seemed to struggle with, given his height and strength.

Still a work in progress, but we can see that a lot of work has been put in training and the improvements are there to see.

Loving his recent performance level. Seems to have decided to cut out the nonsense and get down to brass tacks, his application has matched his technical ability and he has looked so much better for it.

It's incredible how much worse we are without him. He's the driving force in our attacking play. Need to add another midfielder capable of driving us forward. The lack of dynamism and speed was palpable in his absence in this match. Arsenal barely created anything but we never looked like a threat.

Nobody wants to hear it but Fellaini was a loss too. Carrick's legs have gone. One last hurrah earlier this season but he's finished now.

Our best and most important player ;)
Definitely agree on the most important. Even when he's having one of those days where he dallies on the ball too long and gives it away, he's our only reliable creative player.

You really see his quality when he isnt playing. Like a Armani suit with gravy down it.

Pogba creates multiple chances.
Someone else can't finish.
Pogba must therefore be rubbish.

Here's another poor similar attempt of mine.
Early to mid season, the baffling funny comparison with Kante.
(Pogba's tackling is improving and not that bad. Not his main roles anyway).

:p

Pogba's role is to create chances.
Kante is good at tackles and interceptions.
Pogba doesn't do that well.
Therefore Pogba must be rubbish.
