I've said there is evidence he plays very badly against big teams in high profile matches (eg city and Liverpool) and even the games which people claim he was 'ridiculously good', in reality he was 7/10 and another player was the standout MoM.

He has played very well against mid table teama so far.

I expect much much more from a £90m world record signing.

FFS.

"My definition of big games are the games that fit my agenda"

Okey dokey...

7/10 isn't very good?

In any case it isn't very badly. And certainly not very badly against all big sides in high profile games..

You're changing your claim as we get along I see.
No, you are clutching straws trying to win a battle of pedanticS.

Tell you what: you win the pedantic cup.

Pogba still played shite Either way

He's young and there was an IMMENSE amount of pressure on him today. Twitter announcing a new emoji, the ads, the haircut, the new boots just for a Liverpool game. It happens before every game and honestly what needs to happen before one of these games is he puts his head down and works his arse off like he does when he's playing a normal game.

He just needs to learn to chill out a bit. You can see there is so much pressure on him to perform in these big games so he over complicates everything.

What we would do well to remember is that he is still a young guy with LOADS of pressure on him. Most people don't do that well in their first season anyway, let alone a world record fee midfielder.

How can such a ridiculously talented footballer look so shit against the bigger teams? Far too early to call him a luxury player, but he needs to get his act together soon in these games or he simply shouldn't be taking part in them. You can't afford to carry passengers against the likes of Liverpool.

He puts too much pressure on himself, it something that I said about him with France. That's why you are not going to find a lot of people that would understand if the team was built around him.

It's not pedantics. It's saying one thing than saying the other thing just to suit your agenda.

He played shite today, sure.

But we concluded he wasn't shite in all the big games how you claimed.

The thing is, I agreed with you when you started that thread. It felt like people were seeing what they wanted to see. Ragging on other players but ignoring his awful displays. The emperor had no clothes. He's improved a lot though. Really looks to be settling. A shit game shouldn't puncture that optimism any more than Carrick's stinker means he isn't part of our best XI.

So you in fact did watch his games at Juve and against Inter, Milan, Roma?

I watched some of them. I watched him at the euros, all through Juve's CL run and didn't see him do it in those big games. What did he do against Inter and Roma that was so special?

Elephant is still well and truly in the room as far as I'm concerned. A few galactico performances against Fodder United doesn't prove anything when you're signed for a world record fee.

Posters asking if Keane, Messi or Ronaldo never had a bad game are missing the point: they had all proven themselves at big clubs in massive matches to warrant such latitude.

Pogba may be a prodigious talent but he has proven nothing at United that is not expected so far. In my opinion he is still way short on where he needs to be and has a habit of doing disastrous things in big games (he was equally atrocious in the mauling vs City).

Of course I'm desperate for him to do well, to claim him as my talisman and inspire the next title back to Old Trafford: criticism does not mean I'm not desperate to be a fan.

But even if I disregard the fee he was signed for (don't see why I should and he is an exceptional case), his performance today simply as a top team midfield general was shocking.

His defending at corners were as comical as Bebe's passing range on his debut, his finishing was pathetic and his temperament was very worrying. I can't find one redeeming feature on his game today. At least he tried in the first half, in the second he literally hid because he was so scared he'd make mistakes (he did with that idiotic back heel which gave Liverpool easy possession).

Let's see how he man's up after this debacle... Alot of very smart people have backed him. I really hope he is not a dud.

Playing well against mid table fodder is not worth fawning over. We are Manchester United for God's sake. But that's all #PogbaFanBoi's seem to do and then refuse to hold him to standards when he is rubbish against another top 6 team.

Today was our cup final: we all knew it and it needed our best talented players to show up. Pogba was not only intimidated by the occasion, his mistakes impacted massively on rest of the team: he kept giving the ball away, was positionally all over the place, couldn't finish chances and then gave away a bloody penalty.

It wasn't just a bad performance: it cost us a win in our cup final. I was dumbfounded by his idiocy and think this also what happened with the rest of the team. Mourinho bottled it by not subbing him at half time.

mhkitariyan was dropped for 2 months for a similarly disastrous performance against City. I don't think the same should happen to Pogba but I'm not going to walk on eggshells because he has a hashtag.

He needs to quit all the social media #dabbing and start delivering what we pay him to do. Once he's won us a few medals I'll gladly share his tweets but for now a MoM against a team that matters would be nice.

 Jesus Christ

You're the one who claimed he's been poor in every big game he played.

No I didn't. I said I've yet to see him play well in a really big game. I'm still yet to see that. I can't even remember what he did against Roma and Inter (your so-called big games). What did he do that was so special?

I want the guy to do well in the big games for us. All I'm saying is I have never seen him do well in a big game. So tell me, what was so special about his 'big' game performances in Serie A where Juve ran away with the league for the last three years?

How are games vs Inter, Roma and Milan so called big games.

I saw his games in those how you say 'so called' big games, Italian derbies but so called, whatever, and in some of those game he was bossing it.

Yeah Juve ran away with the title and although you're trying to belittle his peformances cause they ran away with the title it's opposite. He was one of the best Juve players in those years.

Well for a start Inter and Milan have been miles off the pace in Serie A for at least the last three years, so how 'bossing it' against them counts for much I don't know.

Napoli have been the closest team to Juve during that stretch, how did he do in those games? They were the big games I was thinking of in Italy where our Paul disappeared again. As I say, I have yet to see him perform in a big game, unfortunately.

So you're claiming he was poor vs Napoli and Roma (who fight it out with Juve nearly every year)?

It was Jones error that led to the corner and then why was Pogba assigned to marking Lovren?
He played some nice passes between the lines. Shouldn't have lost it twice but then lPool press like hounds.

He was a key part of our 9 game winning streak so this sudden criticism is a bit of a disgrace imo.

You can't force someone to cool things out, it usually has to happen naturally. Unfortunately Pogba needs more time to start playing well consistently and really, that's hardly anything new. Lots of players improve after the first season. Some have instant impacts like Payet and Kante last season, but most don't.

And that he disapeared in big games in Italy?

I see there's a myth growing and growing among some posters.

Why do you insist on adding to (making up) what I am saying? It's very odd.

I genuinely asked you for an example of when he has shone in a big game and I get this nonsense.

Really disappointed with him today. Completely hid in the second half after that horroshow in the first.

Well I'm glad you witnessed that coz it's a long time since I've seen him shine in a really big game.
Look I don't like overreactions. I'm not saying you overreacted but in general. Sure this season he could and should have been better in big games but he wasn't exactly crap in all of those how some put it and vs Arsenal and Spurs he was good.
He's still 23 but if he doesn't score 2 goals and makes 3 asissts he's bad.

He was awful today, no 2 ways about it but prior to that he's been very good. Yet some try to belittle his performances claiming it's just been relegation fodder and some go to extreme he's a waste of money. Modern fans I guess, I don't know.. But it's really irritating.

I think he's been great in recent months. I was at the Spurs game, the last 'big' home game and I thought he played well without being exceptional. I was at the City game in league cup and I thought he was bang average, despite hitting the post. I'm not slating the guy. I just don't think he puts in MOM performances in the really big games. And I really want him to.

He did. Yeah.

Honestly @Rory 7, he did.

Yes.
@Rory 7 doesn't like pogba.

Nope. I'm going to be totally up front on this. I don't like his style of play either. Not my type of midfielder. I'd take a Keane over a Viera any day. Pogba reminds me of Viera. Do not want.
What Rooney did wasn't ok. Where did I say what Rooney did was ok? You asked me why the club caved on Rooney's demands and I've given you the reason. At the time it was for the good of the club. This mercenary twat Pogba left Le Harve for a bag full of cash in Manchester aged 15 and then aged 19 followed the money trail to Turin. Now he's angling for another windfall aged 23. Don't kid yourself. This guy is an out and out mercenary. And he has crap hair.
I'm very familiar with the 'narrative'. I just don't like it and I don't like Paul Pogba and his agent. The same agent who probably brokered the Zlatan deal to suck us into a price battle for his over-rated French client. As I say I hope I'm proved wrong.
It is of course but if (and I know it's a big one) he stays fit, City will have picked up a better player for a fraction of the Pogba fee. I'd bet Fergie would put on Gudongan sooner than re-sign Pogba.
I don't like Pogba and have no problem repeating that.

I didn't like the transfer. He's grown on me. Grow up. Digging up posts from the summer. I said I hoped he would do well, I've praised him when he has done well. But I still say he had yet to perform in big games and that's a real worry for me.
Well I thought he did really well against Bayern when playing for Juve. You should check that game out.

I think you need to chill.
I won't go into the rhetoric about how young he is and this is his first season, as the other members would have explained to you already.

There are a couple more big games to go. He will have to go through 12 to 15 more, such as in the FA, League Cups and the Europa League, so there is still plenty of time to judge him.

Besides looking at how badly he did, it is also important to note how well Liverpool set up themselves to defend against him. They had 2 to 3 players to gang up on him once he touched the ball. This will provide him with the experience to learn that he can't overdo things when he gets ganged up. Even the great Messi became anonymous for Argentina when other teams stopped the supply to him.

I will celebrate like feck when he turns it on against a big team. But then I will demand he does that consistently, given his potential he needs to deliver in big games.

Looks like the occasion and the Twitter circus stuff got to him today, tried way too hard to impress when he's seemingly very good at keeping it (reasonably) simple when he tries. Puts too much pressure on himself with all the off-field rubbish IMO. Hopefully calms down a bit in the next year or two, let his obvious ability (as part of a midfield unit, rather than the PP show) do the talking rather than haircuts and hashtags (there's a song in there somewhere).

He's young and still learning. To will stand him in good steed for future games and it's not like we have been here before with other young players. I still think we a lacking leadership in the team and there are players that played previously that through their own game would have taken the pressure off Pogba.

In his post-match interview tonight after Juve 2-1 loss at Fiorentina, Chiellini said Juve are finding difficult life without Pogba because he is the Lebron James of football, his work being impressive even when not in the flashlight.

He really reminded me of Ronaldo in his early years at United today. Gets caught up in the moment and tries to force things when the situation doesn't call for it. It's all happening around him at pace, but he makes it faster than it needs to be. Instead of letting the match come to him and being measured and steady with his play, he wanted to make the pass, make the goal, make the play. He has to trust himself and be patient in these big games to put his mind right. When he missed his big chance in the first half, it impacted him and instead of kicking on from there he panics and gives away the penalty. Then he again tried too hard from that point on and was really rattled.
