I didn't see the game. If he played well then of course that's pleasing for United fans. However, at home to S'hampton is not amongst the most difficult of games. And let's see how he gets on over the course of the season.

I've stated this in many threads now.
Southampton finished 6th and 7th in their last 2 seasons. Southampton are not relegation fodder; they will more than likely win/draw against some top 4 teams, this season.
For comparison, LVG could not beat Southampton at OT in 2 attempts.

When we beat LCFC (the reigning champs) - erm, but that was a nothing game. okay fine.
When we beat Bournemouth (who beat us last season) - erm, but they might be relegation fodder.
When we beat Southampton (who we have not beaten at OT for a while) - erm, ""not amongst the most difficult of games".

Some fans just don't want to accept that Jose and the team are doing a fantastic job right now.
If we won the league, I'm sure some fans would want Jose sacked and half the team sold.

You've had an away game against a weak team and home game against a middling team. Don't you think it's an exaggeration to call winning both of those "a fantastic job"?

I almost forgot how does it feel to have a world class midfielder in the team, it has been too long. Hope he stays in midfield as #10 roles should be ok with Mata/Rooney/Mikhi are all can do well in that position.

Glaston you of all people calling someone out for exaggeration..... Come on my friend lol that's like the nymphomaniac pot calling the kettle 50 shades of black!! For feck sake! Don't go there!

It was so great to watch him play for us again.Hopefully he continues his form. Can become even better than yaya toure.

Considering we lost both those fixtures last season, I'd say it's a decent improvement at the very least.

Not to mention the fact that your mighty Spurs lost to Southampton at home last season.

Don't know why some want him further forward. Always loved a dominant box to box display like the one he put out there. Making the rest of the players look like pygmies. One thing that he needs to sort out is his heading. Can't tell you the amount of times I've seen him make a mess of a heading opportunity.

I'm still surprised people converse with @GlastonSpur. Proven time and time again he's troll who also happens to be clueless when it comes to football.
Best thing I've done on this forum was putting him on ignore a couple months ago, when he started trolling the Pogba transfer thread. Can't understand why people keep giving him the attention he desperate craves.

Compared to the last three seasons? Uhm, I'm going to take "Yup, for 5,000 Alex"

Proven WUM who hasn't a clue about football.

Can't be bothered with the guy myself, but you wrote exactly what I'd have done in response.

Last season, we had the highest amount of 0-0s at home, and highest amount of 0-0s at home at half time, in 20-30years.
This year, we've won 2 games fairly effortlessly with 2 goal margins.

I actually wonder how many times we did that in the last 2 years.

Exactly. Only pops up when the times are good for his boys. No balance, massively one eyed.

That's what some said when I predicted Spurs would finish above United.
You get any silverware with that?

Even Utd at their lowest ebb can reel in the FA Cup.

''I was there son, I was there when Spurs nothing again''. - Unknown source in 2038.

For Spurs the greatest glory is the "we finished above United" trophy. Sadly Arsenal has celebrated St.Totteringhams day all those times as well, rendering the trophy worthless.

Not given where we were last season and the job the new guy coming in had to turn around the mood and playing style. I'd agree that it's only a start, and there are much bigger test to come, but it is a very good start.

I think he's a completely different animal than Yaya or Vieira. I've never seen any CM with the skillset that he has. He's just ridiculously well rounded.

It's like someone merged Zidane and Viera into one player.

He can surpass both but he isn't there yet. Prime Yaya scored 23 PL goals for Citeh's last title. He was a huge player for them.

Definitely. Im not saying hes better, just saying the comparisons aren't really accurate. He's a different type of player

Didn't realise this kid was this good (I know it's only one game) but was shocked how good he was/is! If that's what £89m buys you (a superstar) then let's buy 2 next year! Griezman and Kroos will do fine!

I was all for pushing him further up the park, but after watching that game I think he'll be fine as part of the pivot in midfield as long as whoever his partner is (I.e. Fellaini) sits deepest.

I think he'll be even better if his partner was better at passing (i.e Carrick). Not that Fellaini is doing anything wrong, he was very good the other night.

What impresses me the most is his technique and abillity to dribble in restricted areas, a guy of his size simply doesn't have any business being that technically astute.

It is like some Frankenstein guy constructed a perfect CM in a laboratory. "I'll have a little bit of this, a little bit of that, oh and some of this".

Freak of a player, the fact that he is 3-4 years away from his full potential is also scary. Will go down as one of the best CMs in PL history I think.

I keep wondering, why the hell did Deschamps play this guy in a restricted role at the Euros? You have the most dynamic midfielder in the game and you ask him to neglect it all and keep it simple?

Because Deschamps.

This is exactly right, and exactly why so many were so desperate for us to sign him whatever the cost!

They lost their deep holding midfielder in Lassana before the tournament. Kante didn't provide the same assurance for the role. Schneiderlin was not trusted on merit of last season with us. Portugal was set up tactically well to stalemate France midfield and especially the need to keep Pogba as holding midfield to keep Sanches' burst in check.

Had France had someone like Fellaini on this form the last couple games, they may win the final with Pogba being afforded the role of Sissokho.

I would much rather he tried Kante holding a bit longer, instead of restricting Pogba and giving Matuidi the freedom to go forward.

Kante easy-noticeably failed the holding role into the knockout phase. Sign was there in 2 group stage games where he was everywhere into his midfield partners' way (try too hard to steal the ball, instead of knowing when just to kill space and stay with the defense nod seal the midfield). He is inexperienced for the role and his game is too indisciplined for the role. On a different note, it's. Good experience for Pogba though as he was asked to do a more defensive role and IMO did the best in all of France central midfielders in the tournament (people hope for Zidane offensive display from Pogba was disappointed, but that's due to the wrong expectation from his role and the way France set up). It's a waste not to use his attacking play, but the point is on personal gain, it would benefit his development.

Actually Kante was fantastic. One of the best players for France when he was in there. Only reason he lost his place was that he got suspended for 2 yellows and Griezmann was on fire in a 442. Moussa Sissoko replaced Kante because he also was fantastic and he fit better in a 442. Griezmann was struggling in a 433 and he was the most important and talented player on the team. Deschamps adjusted to get him going.

As I mentioned before, France is extremely talented right now. Nobody is going to be handed the "superstar" tag. Payet was the undisputed star in pool play and then Griezmann in elimination rounds. Pogba was actually given an opportunity against Switzerland to shine but he couldn't outshine those two although he was decent. So Deschamps devised a tactic to take advantage of his best in-form players during the tournament... namely Payet and Greizmann.

If Pogba wants France to build itself around him, he needs to prove it on the pitch during the NT games. It's going to be tough. There's just an immense wealth of talent on the squad in France and coming up too. He can do it... but he's going to have to force Deschamps to adjust to him with his performances there. Hasn't happened yet. He's being outplayed on the pitch by several players on France.

He already has apart from these euros. He had a great world cup for instance.

I don't expect him to be that good in the next games because there will be a few guys closing him down, but it will create more space for the rest of the team. That's why such players make the others raise their game level.
