Patrick Dorgu | Medical tomorrow

Just another example of penny pinching. He might turn out to be a decent player and anything is better than what we have at lb but he's not exactly the caliber of player we need right now. We act like Brighton and before everyone says yeah Brighton do well. Yes for a small club they are awesome but they finished 6th at the highest point and are usually what between 9th and11?. There are a million better LB's out there Kerkez, Ait-Nouiri, Antoinee Robinson, Nuno Mendes. Loads. And Im not having this we have no cash nonsense.
As much as United remains a massive club I highly doubt we have the same pull factor. Just look at the number of player careers that have nosedived since joining us. Reality is beggars can’t be choosers.

I mean you have named the four most obvious ones, none of which would cost 25 million and under in January.

We've virtually been without a left footed full back for 18 months bar the odd game here and there.

Thank feck it's coming to an end.

So much rests on this lad. I sort of feel sorry for him. Neither Bournemouth or Wolves are going to sell in January and United are desperate now.

We can’t afford to pay 50m+ on those players, and probably wouldn’t be able to prise them away in January anyway.

Didn't you see, @UpWithRivers said he's "not having this we have no cash nonsense". Despite everyone remotely knowledgeable about the clubs finances stating that to be the case.

When I was a younger lad and constantly skint I wish I would have known that you can simply reject the idea of having no money as a concept and buy whatever you fancy.

Add in the fact that one of the biggest criticisms of the club has been a failure to identify players before they get a big break.

We 'upgrade' the footballing department to help us better uncover these talents and then when we sign players who fit the profile people have been crying out for us to chase and it's apparently now another stick to beat them with for not signing more established players.

Still remember people turning their noses up when we were linked with mane when he was at southampton, how did he turn out?

If Ruben and the club think this lad can do a job in the system, we should probably give him a chance before we write him off.

Some fans want us to sign the likes of Kerkez before they go to a team like Brighton or Bournemouth. Kerkez cost Bournemouth for £15.5m for example. Was that not penny pinching?

You can find quality signings in any league and at any price. Christ knows we should know that the fee being bigger doesn't make it a better signing.

So we have this guy and Diego Leon for the LWB spot. Seems we’re going for the formula of signing young players rather than buying the finished article.

Given our dire financial situation we have no other choice.

The same people will be demanding we drop £80m on a striker yet they can't comprehend the fact that we need to make savings by taking educated gambles on young talents in order to fill the squad and later on afford the very best players in key positions.

In the summer, we will need a Striker, CM and AM. Maybe another quick CB, funds permitting. It is pick ups like this that will make it possible.

I am that the wages are OK and he is young enough to either grow or ensure we don't lose too much money if we want to move on. Let's see how he improves under Amorim before we write him off.

Christ almighty. WE ARE NOT BOURNEMOUTH OR BRIGHTON! Im friggin sick and tired if this argument. Oh well Brighton get bargains lets do that well. Is that where we are now? Lets be Brighton? Oh how the world has fallen.

Rubbish. We need a top striker + we need a top LB. How friggin long has it been now that we have no LB. And dont say Shaw and Malacia. We havnt seen them for 18 months. So what now we go another 3,4 , 5 years with a sht LB or at least an unfinished LB. How did that work out for the same plan we had at strikers. Why is this fan base so eager to accept sht. We are fkn 13! Real Madrid are arseholes but at least they dont accept being 13th with no LB for 2 years then getting a budget basement one. Madrid would be in flames. Is it only me that has had enough of this sht

I know that its currently a much higher bar than doing well at United currently and from watching him I doubt he'll make much improvement. But more importantly you're the one who said Barco isnt a good comparison then listed how he hasnt made an impact at Brighton or on loan. Well hes playing at clubs doing better than Lecce - who watching them this weekend were diabolically bad and he wasnt better. So in all linkelyhood he wouldnt be doing any better. However Barco looks to have a lot of potential as a leftback or even a more ball playing position and cost less than half of what we're paying for Dorgu, also signed Jan but last year.
I disagree. That is all.

Brain-dead comment. You are literally applying the same logic we've had for the last 12 years, if a player costs 60-80 million he must be brilliant!

Except for...
Di Maria, Pogba, Sancho, AWB, Antony, Maguire, Hojlund, Onana etc

Buying young energetic players with loads of promise Is the exact thing we need to do as well as buying in the odd big signing to complement them, but we all know they are summer signings and not January.

Given our dire financial situation we have no other choice.
I guess so. We have a lot of young players for the future, and as others have said, look at all the established players we’ve bought over the years and how shite they’ve been.

It’s a gamble, let’s hope it turns out well.

 Yeah if only!

Honestly think this is nonsense. United fans love nothing more than an under the radar signing like Amad or Sekou Kone or Vidic in years gone by. I think it says a lot though that people are watching Dorgu’s footage and just being totally luke warm. Also, it’s not like there’s any track record to have blind faith in United’s recruitment.

Dorgu might turn out great and with such low wages, we shouldn’t ever to take a big hit on him but we need ceiling raisers in the team and cannot really afford to be making signings that don’t improve upon what we have or it’s a race to the bottom for us.

So basically 2x what we paid for Malacia.

So to be a success he needs to be at least 3x the player.

The "good price" is always relative. Liverpool bought an established midfielder in Mac Allister for £35m, and Gravenberch that had ~100 games for AJax and Bayern under his belt for £34m. I'm hoping United would go this route.

At least this didn't Dorg uon till deadline day.

Happy to see us get him for a semi acceptable fee, and it's good the club didn't pay the full €40m Lecce asked for, with the club being skint, negotiating is key and driving the price down, every penny counts, so paying €10m less than what was originally demanded is good work by the club, I still think it's bit pricey but not a bad deal at all.

Welcome to United Dorgu, hopefully he succeeds and becomes an excellent LWB, also him being only 20 and versatile means if in the event Amorim leaves and the new coach plays a back 4, he can play the LB role as well.

Player that's 20 years old coming from Lecce in Serie A, you can imagine him struggling in PL initially. But even if he's raw I hope just by being more natural in that LWB role than Dalot (and being left-footed obviously) will improve our shape on that side immediately.

We spent a combined 125m on Hojlund and Zirkzee… In retrospect, we should have bought Osihmen for 100m and brought in a 2nd striker for 25m.

It’s easy to see our mistakes looking back. I think for the striker of Man United, this is one area where you want a proven, prolific 9. SAF always paid for talent in his 9s. Always.

If we can’t pay 80m for a striker, we might as well shut down Old Trafford. If Jim can’t spend to get us back to winning the league, he should leave.

It bothers me that the Caf has eaten up this shit from the board that we can’t afford to pay for top talent. There are literally a million loopholes in PSR. It’s not a money issue. We have until June 30 to comply with PSR.

I think the board needs to support Amorim. I think they need a plan to accumulate young, teenage talent to re-stock the academy while simultaneously buying top class proven talent. We are not especially athletic, we’re poor 1v1, we’re not big, we aren’t very technical and we don’t have much pace.

We can’t claim to be the biggest club in the world and not be in the conversation for top talent.

It seems Amorim really wants him. Hopefully he’ll work out. Seems a lot to spend on an unproven 20 yr old. Both LWB and RWB need athleticism and pace… Dalot and/or Maz aren’t the answer at RWB either.

Nuno Mendes wants to re-sign at PSG. Ait-Nouri would require a world record fee for a fullback to take him at this point of the season, and Robinson does not fit our timeline at all.

Signing Dorgu isn’t penny pinching. You just want big names you can recognize.

The same Madrid that signed Vinicius, Rodrygo, Valverde, Camavinga, Guler, Lunin etc etc

All young players with glaring holes in their game, but they knew that with the current market, that is how you play the game.

Only rumors are United and Barcelona. Sport (catalan sports newspaper) did an article last week saying Barcelona was very interested and called him the portuguese Lamine Yamal. Doubt they can afford him though. Next summer it will be hard to negotiate with us because we will have plenty of money due to impending sales of Gyökeres, Diomande and possibly Hjulmand. We won't be cash strapped and will drive a hard bargain in the following deals.
That's what I am thinking too. I don't think United will have the money to spend that much. Hopefully we get our shit together and come back to this guy next summer.
