Patrick Dorgu | 2024/25 Performances

A disappointing performance from him, but I hope and think that we will see much better games in the future.

He's not very good lads. Will be someone everyone wants moved on before next season is out.

Isn't giving us anything like what I'd hoped an actual wing back would give us, and holy crap he's technically pretty awful.

He's been relatively decent since arriving.

But I don't think he is suited to a wingback role whatsoever. Maybe he could grow into it. Maybe not.

I was going to write about the several things he needs to improve based on the Forest game. As I started to list them I realized he needs to improve everything. He had times of poor control gifting the ball to a Forest player, he finds himself on the end of quite a few high balls and his headed control and headed shots are poor, his crossing attempts were average at best and when he's had opportunities to shoot in previous games he's had poor efforts. I think hes okay defensively and certainly wins the ball a good amount and he can run with decent speed. He also found teammates more often than in some of his previous matches, he had a high pass percentage of 86.7%, But other than that he's far short of what we need at the moment.

I thought he might be right player wrong price when we signed him but now I'm not sure he was the right player either. I did think he would take time and he still has that on his side. But he looks to have more deficiencies than I already saw for Lecce. On current performances we shouldn't have paid more than £10 million for him. Hopefully in 18 months he's improved and looking the part, but for now he's a mile short of what we needed in Jan.

Woeful tonight, struggles with the basics.

Holy feck that was bad (although he somewhat improved towards the end of the game.)
True. That 15 or 20 min period where he could not make a 5 yard pass. Early days though. Enough glimpses to show he's got something about him.

There were a few occasions where I was hoping he would attack the space as he's difficult to stop.

I said the same thing in the Amorim thread — it doesn’t matter where he played for Leece before; just watching him operate with and without the ball in the final third he very much does not look like an offensive wingback.

I see caftards already giving up on him, you never learn do you.

Yeah because we had some real gems in the last years. Players that turned out really fecking brilliant after a bad start. Can't think of a single one. This poor lad seems to lack the absolute basics and looks totally awkward on the ball

Buy a player thats statistically shit, get a player thats shit. Weird how stats have a tendency to play out the same elsewhere.

I mean Dorgu's been a mixed bag and, having only seen the last 30 minutes I'll admit it seems that I missed the worst of his performance tonight, but I can't believe how down on him some of you are.

I thought, despite the faults in his game, he very clearly improved our threat going forward. He has done in the majority of games he's played.

At this stage I sort of feel sorry for new signings coming here simply because it feels as though a decent chunk of our fanbase are just chomping at the bit to write them off entirely. The team has looked MUCH better for having Dorgu in it, and frankly I can't take seriously anyone who doesn't see that.

Just what I was thinking. Have we had many successes?

I have grown to dislike our fans more than City's and Pool's this season - the guy is 20 and just joined us, he's having some good, some bad games and yet look at the state of this thread.

I guess you never learn then.

Yeah we do learn actually, which is why the safe bet is on him being a failure
 The clown fiesta on here.

He's 20 and came from Serie A in the middle of the season. Maybe Lyon tie will prove me wrong but if he can perform well in Europa (and was good vs Sociedad), while being decent and getting better in league with time then great. Think we all agreed back in January that he's needed purely as a wingback irrelevant of his current level as a player.

Yeah I said it after his first appearance, he's just an average left back that could play for any of the bottom half Prem sides and nobody would really think anything of it (as it happens, he's on our bottom half side).

We needed a left back so still worth buying, though a bit pricy for what we got.

More disappointed than anything that he's not actually that quick. Was hoping he'd have more pace at least so you have that to work with.

For the price we paid, I think he's fine. He's a potential first teamer (for our current level) operating as a squad option ability with room to grow. In a more possession based team that actually wants to move the ball to each other and at speed, he's an athletic ball runner/carrier that's vital to have to give penetration.

He was definitely poor today and whilst I can forgive a lot of that due to his willingness to run and rawness, I found myself screaming at the screen due to him not challenging for aerials on the edge of their box. It lead to a couple of counters and momentum killers.

I would be hesitant to say he is poor technically because, based on his other performances, I don't see that at all. Tonight was bad, but even Fernandes was under-hitting and mis-hitting passes, including funnily enough an absolute woeful effort out to Dorgu that completely ruined some good build up and killed all momentum.

When all said and done, when he started just getting his head down and trying to get the byline, he was better and he should have ended with an assist, that isn't to say he wasn't largely poor but nowhere near worth the reactions from some on here.

Was crap tonight...

But against a system that really doesn't suit him.

We have bought him for pretty much one thing. Fast paced transitions.

It's still to early to judge a young player like him, but currently when the opponent park the bus, he simply doesn't have the nous or flair to break down a defence.

I swear we buy players based on one single attribute that the squad lacks. The amount of players we have who are only decent at one thing is mind blowing.

Shocking stuff today, terrible passing. That said, he’s a left-back so demanding the attacking quality of a top forward player would be unfair.

He seemed off the pace today. Difficult game, Forrest was very physical but I think, he wasn't focussed enough. Early days, it will take time for him to adjust.

Impossible with Garnacho in front of him. Also he needs time. Evra was worse and got more shit from fans for being "shit" and look how that went.

Honestly fed up with it. They're just waiting to write new signings off. To my mind, it's patently obvious how much the side has improved with Dorgu at left-back. He's raw, and you'd expect him to be, but I'm fecking tired of a player being "obviously shite" and "just another flop" the moment they have a bad game.

First half wasn't great but that second half was bad. So many poor passes and didn't look nearly as sharp as he was against Sociedad.

Was really poor tonight after a really good game against Sociedad. But he is only 20 and we are going to have to get used to trying to develop players.

Playing him in combination with Garnacho doesn’t help either, if I’m being generous Dorgu was better for last 10 minutes or so and should have had an assist. Some really sloppy touches and passes though.

Lay off the lad ffs...

He finally grew into the game late on and actually ended it quite strongly. Tonight, for the first hour or so, he was rough but looked well short of match fitness - he has missed games.

He will be fine...

He's been relatively decent since arriving.

But I don't think he is suited to a wingback role whatsoever. Maybe he could grow into it. Maybe not.

He's definitely well suited to the wingback role, his physical attributes are what we're sorely missing, the problem is that he isn't being allowed to play that at the moment.

He's being forced inside in order to let Garnacho, who should be playing centrally, hog the wing in order to be marginally less ineffective.

Even tonight in an overall poor performance, when he was able to play wide (in his actual position) he looked better; played a nice ball in behind for Hojlund, and rescued an overhit pass from Garnacho to put in a cross that Maguire should have done better with, as a couple of examples.
