Patrice Evra to Madrid?

Evra is staying put. He's one of the few United players who I have no worry about leaving any time soon.

He is on his way to becoming a club legend.

Not worried, but if there are really only 2 more years on his contract then I hope to see an extension this summer... Evra has a good 6-7+ years left and I hope he is here for all of it.

Anything less than 28-30 million would be unacceptable. He's one of the best if not the best in the world in his position. If we buy someone like Bale to replace him, it will also cost us a fortune, 20-25 million may be, just because Spurs doesn't have to sell. And he's still a few levels below Evra yet.

i would be very very annoyed if he left, would hate it! can't see it happening though unless Real offer ridiculous sums i.e 30-35 million.

Yes it would have to be an absolute king's ransom, United need to get his contract worked out

More rumours about this today from a journo on TalkSport. I can't see it happening to be honest.

If there is any truth in it I hope Fergie manages to keep him for 1 more year like he did with Ronnie. That would give Fabio a full year as understudy making him ready for the first team in time for the 11/12 season.

We will probably sign a replacement if Evra leaves mind you, or use O'Shea there - I doubt Fabio would be first choice.

If he was sold this season i doubt we'd sign a replacement. What's the point when Fabio will be ready to step up in a year or so. I'd expect O'Shea would be used there until Fabio is ready.

I'm not sure if others are feeling this way, but United selling players on to Real Madrid is really beginning to piss me off. It creates the illusion that Madrid are a superior club which simply isn't true for countless reasons

How many players have moved from Madrid to United ? Or perhaps Spain to Manchester for that matter.

It's bollox

Um, we're guilty of poaching other teams talent. We can't really cry if other teams are feeding off our financial mess.

Exactly - we've (or rather our owners) put ourselves in this position and Real are merely taking advantage of it. I'm sure we'd do the same if the situation was reversed

It's all only rumours at this stage remember. There's only Ronaldo that we've lost to them against our will.

with the exception of Ronaldo, all of our sales to Madrid have been of players deemed surplus to requirements by the manager. Just look at the obscene amount of money they had to pay to get the one player we didn't want to sell. I think we have done quite well in our dealings with those bastards over the past decade

The Journalist on TalkSport was from NOTW only, so I wouldn't read too much into it.

Exactly right. Personally I have a lot of faith in both the twins, but it would make sense to keep Evra at least one more season while Fabio gets some more games under his belt and gets his mistakes out of his system. In a year's time, okay Evra is then into his 30s but lets be honest he's still far and away better than most of the other options out there so he'd still be very much in demand.

Looks like his agent is deferring contract negotiations until the summer.

Agent says Real Madrid target Evra wants Man Utd stay
Patrice Evra is eyeing a long-term stay with Manchester United.

Evra's agent, Frederico Pastorello, has said the player will speak to United about a new contract at the end of the season.

Real Madrid target Evra's current deal runs out in 2012 and United are keen to keep the Frenchman.

"Things are going great with United and Sir Alex," Pastorello said. "We don't want to speak about the future right now, as we are in the middle of the season, but we will talk in the summer."

Not quite sure how that particular quote justified that headline.

Quotes from tribal football, caught offside and the other one should come with massive disclaimers in big capital letters saying 'CAREFUL, 99% CHANCE OF BOLLOCKS'!

Not really true.

Tribalbollox just regurgitates stuff it's pulled down from the wires. When the story consists of nothing but rumours or quotes from un-named "sources" you can be fairly sure it's total bullshit. However, when it's got a quote from a named individual it has to be essentially accurate (the bit within quotation marks anyway).

The agent's quote does not seem to match with the title of the article, hopefully it's just a formality that he will sign though.

Why would we think about replacing Evra, a left back, with a winger?
