Patrice Evra | 2013/14 Performances

As much as I appreciate Evra and all he's done, his individual performances have led to a lot of goals conceded this season in particular.

He's had a good run but it's clear that it won't go on for much longer especially after a summer of trying to get Leighton Baines.

So Evra is this months scape goat?

If you go through the season many people have pointed out he's been well below par after being excellent last season..as has everyone else bar Wayne Rooney.

Given his age and the fact the manager made moves for Baines and Coentrao it's pretty obvious there isn't long left.

This season's probably.

I know FIFA isn't the best judge of things, but I find it interesting that the game has him on two plus points for the online games (where you have a rating and you either get plus points or minus points if they play well or poorly) - the best at United bar Januzaj, yet everyone here slags him off as being finished.

and the badge...dont forget the badge...Everyone loves a badge

"Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!"

But yes, indeed! If he kisses the badge I would say he's arrogant though - no doubt - it's just to show that his mouth is bigger than the entire club!

The manager also moved for Fellaini - a real upgrade that has been.

There is an abundance of problems with this current side, but he's one of the key problems defensively. Missing defensive headers, static and failing to respond to balls in behind him, slow to support attacks - the list is endless, but hey he's a threat from set pieces so all is well.

And how is that relevant to Evra's time possibly being up? I never said we'd be getting a guaranteed upgrade.

That even if the manager brings in another player, it isn't necessarily the end of Evra. Fellaini hasn't meant the end of Cleverley, and so signing Baines may not be the end of Evra if Baines isn't an upgrade.

Thought Evra was really poor on Saturday. The amount of times Cabaye made crossfield passes with Debuchy as an outlet on the right - particularly in the first half was astonishing. While, also mistiming a number of headers, or losing out on 50/50's - one that directly led to a goal. Not to mention his concentration, or lack of it.

He hasn't been bad this season and possibly is better than last season. But he seems to make a defensive mistake that directly results in a goal for the opposition very often. Don't get me started on his threat going forward.

Why would you even bother making this point?

Because even if he is slagged on here, what is supposed to be a group of more objective people seem to think he has played quite well. Thus, perhaps there is a bandwagon on here about Evra being past it that people are much too keen to jump onto, using near cliches to explain his poor play.

Evra isn't tied down to a long term contract like Cleverley. He isn't a United product like Cleverley. He isn't 24 like Cleverley (This isn't me bigging up Cleverley).

Its not the same at all. We clearly signed Fellaini to add numbers to a very thin area. In terms of numbers at left back, we're fine.

Evra is less likely to be content as back up to a player like Baines or Coentrao who we would probably thrust straight into the first team. With half a year left on his contract its quite plausable that he could say his goodbyes next year if we were to sign a decent left back.

It's not a personal agenda against him. He was poor against Newcastle and was directly at fault for their goal. He's made a number of defensive errors that have led to goals this season, but he is generally just as good as last season probably.

Still, think we need a left back urgently, but I don't mind if Evra stays on for another season.

No, it just means some game designers got one wrong. Tonton Zola Mokoukou was also not the major talent FM made him out to be.

Well come on Rossa, when you're letting the opposing fullback behind you a couple minutes before the first half is completed, it makes you wonder. Maybe not finished but his lapses of concentration worry me.

I have no problem with him being replaced, but I would much rather go for an up and coming fullback than an overrated 29 year old whom I doubt would be an immediate upgrade anyhow.

He was so and so against Newcastle. If he had scored (it should have been a pen and a red card) and if he had been not so unlucky heading the ball in Sissoko's face then people would be singing a different tune, although his general play would be the same.

It is, but it's no clear indication. It looks like Fabio is leaving, maybe even in January, so we aren't big in numbers for the left back position. If Evra leaves and we bring in Coentrao or Baines, we are stuck in the exact same situation as we are in now, only with someone else playing instead of Evra. Büttner will still be too poor an option.

Yes, they must be wrong and you must be right. You are either awfully arrogant or simply refusing to see my point that some people actually think he has played well, whereas he is still being slagged off in here. I did say they weren't the best judge of things, but people here are going way OTT.

I am neither. I am just making the very obvious point that it is retarded to argue that him being good in FIFA suggests that maybe people on here have it wrong. A computer game is not a decent barometer of this in any shape or form.

People are allowed to criticize a player without making them a scapegoat. I don't read this forum all the time nor have I read all 75 pages off this thread but Evra has been getting some stick for a while now (at points last season and definitely the season before) and does seem to be in somewhat of a decline. He frustrates me hugely to watch because he is either lazy or just doesn't have the legs to track back anymore. I read or heard a few comments saying Moyes might of asked him to do that as he did it with Baines but I'd be surprised if that meant don't track back at all. There's point when you watch him and he just stops running which leaves us hugely exposed.

I do feel a bit sorry for Evra at times as in fairness to him he has had no real cover for years...going off Wikipedia which isn';t the best source of information he's played 99 games in 2 and a bit seasons which is a lot for his age and the position he plays in. He probably is a bit annoyed we blatantly tried replacing him in the summer to which isn't good for motivation. But I do feel it's time we looked elsewhere. It's not that I can't stand him as ap layer or think he's awful I just feel he needs help and we really need a top quality left back. I can't see Evra wanting to be cover for someone for a few years when he can get a good contract somewhere else and play regularly.

Yeah. Look at how people debate over the ratings. Plus it's just another set of subjective eyes putting their views into the game and it being reflected by player ratings.

This is why I wonder where the hell fabio is and what's his situation? Evra has been starting way too many games with little rest. It's catching up with him yet we keep throwing him out there because apparently Fabio isn't good enough to fill in and Buttner.........well i have no words for him.

No it isn't - I said it wasn't. I merely remarked upon the fact that some people, who should be more or less objective, put him down as playing well this season. I am of that impression too, despite some mistakes.

If Scholes had made a similar pass to Valencia to what Cabaye made to his winger, we would say that was a sublime pass. Evra could have done better, but it wasn't atrocious defending. For the goal he was unlucky and someone else could have cleared that up. As I said, if that hadn't happened and the header had gone in, people would be singing a completely different tune.

That's a very valid point. Evra needs a bit more rest these days than he did four-five years ago - it's only natural. I would love to see Fabio getting game time as I think he can be terrific, but it doesn't seem to be.

Indeed it is - and I disagree with a lot of them - Young being faster than Valencia for instance and Valencia having a 73 rating or so for strength...

However, my point is that outside the Caf, some people don't think he's pure garbage and perhaps a lot of people should take a step back and tone it down a bit.

You're kidding!? Maybe it's a good thing I havent played FIFA in a while. I admire your resilience on Evra. I just thought you went a bit OTT wit h some things. It baffles me that Evra is getting no rest. It's borderline criminal. I feel for him in some ways because he's suffering because of how good he is...That we're so unwilling to put buttner or fabio out there in his stead. Says a lot dont it?

Sadly, I'm not kidding! He's not even a speedster anymore. Rafael has a 78 rating overall...

I did go a bit OTT with some things, but only in response to some of the way OTT statements that are said about Evra. As you say, him playing so much is borderline criminal. He may even want to play that much as well, but his manager should know better. I just cannot fathom why Fabio can't get some game time. I'll wager that he's dying to show what he can do, and I think he will do well.

Exactly! The last time fabio came on he scored. Now it's like we're slowly preparing him for exile. We need that sort of positivity. I didnt see anything in his performance taht stuck out as "oh so that's why he doesn't play"

Doesn't really make sense, does it? You score a goal - ah, the bench is next for you little one. Whereas Büttner puts in a shite performance and is given another chance. I'm still wondering if Fabio could make a good CM though...

lol waiting to be unleashed...oh moysie you cheeky sod. On a serious note, it seems like Fabio is the only one who hasnt got a fair shot which leads me to conclude he & moyes had talks and mutually agreed that Old Trafford will no longer be his home :( I'll miss him. I'll never forget him & Rafa celebrating that goal against Arsenal in the cup.

That's what I'm afraid of - that there's an agreement that he may leave as he doesn't feature in Moyes' plans, which is a travesty considering his a great talent and can operate on both sides. A much better alternative than Büttner on the bench, certainly.

In terms of Evra, I see him as a liability these days,. He has been a great player for the club but his days at the top are done. Quite a few believe Baines is a certainty how do you lads feel about him coming in?

I don't feel good about it at all. He's no youngster and no upgrade on Evra, imo. He has a sweet left foot, but ultimately lacks a little pace for a top fullback. He's good enough for the squad and possibly good enough for the first XI (those things are always hard to judge beforehand), but I just don't think he will be a significant upgrade on things.

If anything we will be even more focused on crossing. At least we'll have 3 good options for set piece delivery (rvp, rooney, baines).

Doesn't matter if we will be even more focused on crossing as our strikers aren't that good at capitalizing on it. RVP isn't a prolific header of the ball and Rooney looks to have lost a little bit of edge there. Do you think Baines will take free-kicks ahead of Rooney and RVP? I recall Young also being said to be good at free-kicks...

never kicked on when he got here though. Good point about the crossing but i would say Baines is a better crosser than Evra so maybe we would get a few more chances there
