Saw his interview on MUTV yesterday. I love Evra. Hope he never leaves.

If he does leave I will not be bitter about it at all. His whole time here he has put in everything possible, and has defended us on and off the pitch. Will definitely go down in the history of the club as a player to be remembered.

Absolutely. Great United career. From a very, very shaky start to becoming one our most dependable servants over the years. I hope he stays, of course, but maybe this is the right time for him to leave. Moyes will bring someone in at LB regardless - I'm pretty sure about that. And I don't know how Evra will cope with being - possibly - the second choice. It could work out great - we could end up with finally having a really good backup LB with tons of experience. But I ain't sure. He is a proud man - maybe too proud to play second fiddle.

Thought he was really good yesterday. Had to really carry the attack down a congested left side and looked the only player able to go past one or two defenders last night, till Januzaj came on. Crosses were better than against Sociedad also. He showed once again how important he is to the team. I don't think he will be easy to replace, even if we find someone with better abilities, which will also be hard.

Kind of weird that his crossing is now much better but during his prime years (07-10) his crossing was garbage. It was seriously bad but he was amazing in every other part of his game.

Think it's David Moyes tactics really, and you can see why he wanted Baines. Never seen Evra put in so many crosses from deep before, under Fergie he used to overlap and get to the byline a lot. Under Moyes he seems to whip in crosses from just inside the final 3rd.

It also shows how shallow it is to just look at individual player stats without looking at the systems the respective players work within. Many wanted us to replace Evra with Baines because Baines creates more chances going forward, and we wanted more attacking outlet from our fullbacks than what Evra provided a few years ago. But lately (even last season with SAF tbh) hes been creating more chances than Baines. Its very clearly more down to the tactics of the manager than a change in Evra's attacking ability.

Spot on mate! The grass isn't always greener on the other side!

When he's way up field and loses the ball it really disturbs me sometimes when he jogs back with absolutely no hint of urgency.

Hes done that for a season or two now. I wouldnt have a huge problem with it if a midfielder or another player had come across to fill in to retake our shape, but when hes the last man on that side, him jogging does concern me.

However having a left footed player ahead of him helps him a lot. Him and Adnan working really well together.

Generally speaking, Evra plays really well with anyone in front of him. I can't think of a single player/winger that struggled to link up with him on the left wing. Even Ashley Young plays some nice stuff with him.

Oh that again:wenger:

Very, very few players sprint as much as Evra, in attack and back to defence, but he's one of our most vital attacking outlets. How do you expect him to sprint back at full pelt every time. It wouldn't be possible for anyone. It's the midfielders' job to cover for him when he's attacking. I can't believe that is still being discussed.

One foot in front of the other, just like anyone else.

Thanks for clearing that up :)

Honestly, he sprints back just as much as any other fullback. The problem is that our midfield consists of two players whereas most other midfields have three players, which makes it easier to cover for an attacking fullback. It's a penalty United always have to pay. It happens with Rafael too, and he sprints like his life depended on it.

Hence, when he jogs back it's disturbing. Usually between 50-90mins when the game can be in the balance sometimes. I love him, not having a go at him. It's just disturbing and makes me nervous.

That's true, his link up play and keeping ball under pressure/dribbling in tight areas were always Evra's best attributes.

It's either that or not make an effort to run back, his energy levels must so low that he can only jog back. Evra isn't lazy when it comes to football, it's just very difficult to keep running up and down that left wing without at some point feeling extremely knackered. SAF and Moyes have allowed him that kinda freedom and seemingly see no major issues with it otherwise he'd have been to cut down on the attacking runs.
This has always been a myth on the caf that Evra is lazy when it comes to defending, when it comes to getting back to his defensive position.

I remember reading Carrick's brothers tweets(don't ask me why) and he was basically pointing out how Evra is more often than not the problem. It made me wonder if Carrick thought the same.

Arguably our best player today. Was actually really good in defence and made some vital headers and interceptions. I've never seen him look knackered towards the end though, but that wasn't promising.

He was excellent tonight.

Great match from him indeed, didn't stop running and he was the only one trying to create something first half.

Top notch again yesteday. These little breaks he is getting with Buttner covering is doing wonders for him.

The little run where he tracked Vela and cleared with his head, was exactly the type of thing he would lose concentration on before. He is such an important player for us I dread if he does leave after this season.

His attacking play is also very good recently, he was linking beautifully in the first half with Kagawa.

Love his effort but he doesn't half scare the shit out of me in these matches, caught very high up the pitch twice near the end.

He was shocking defensively today...Hence why I think Januzaj didn't play today. It would have left us extremely exposed down that side

He wasn't shocking. Just completely ran out of gas in the last 10 minutes

That's about the only bad moments he had from a defensive POV IMHO, other than that he was very solid. People (not meant at you just to be clear) who expect than what he showed are deluding themselves, Evra has never a perfect player. He has always had those "issues" where he is caught up too high up the pitch, that's the risk with his game. We can't take the good without accepting the bad.

He was ridiculously isolated at times in that second half. There was one point when there was just him with 3 arsenal players to deal with. He did well on the whole.

Same old reliable pat today. Closed everything down and dealt with danger even when it was 2 on 1 sometimes. Crossing and delivery wasn't there today but he kept ozil and co. quiet.

Aye. Kagawa completely disappeared as the 2nd half wore on and Evra himself looked to be on his last legs

I thought Kagawa didn't do the much favours today with his tendency to go on a walkabout elsewhere on the pitch. The Arsenal players closed down the entire flank well and boxed him in TBH, and Pat was never going to beat 2 players on his own or play out of a cul-de-sac. He did what he could, and primarily he's still a FB and in that respect he defended really well.

The left side is the most interesting tactical area since Moyes took over I think.

Evra has clearly been instructed to get forward and wide very often with Kagawa tucking in on the left to give him room to overlap and I think they're both still getting to grips with exactly what Moyes wants them to do.
