Often when they're attacking down his side, he doesn't even bother closing down. Just lets them cross it under no pressure and tries to get in the middle to stop it?

Defensively pretty bad at the moment, but as usual, one of our best attacking wise

Patrice Evra is officially now complacent.

He is the only man in the squad who has no competition for his place and its been showing for a while now. start giving fryers a run out i say, initially with park infront of him for a bit more protection. a rest wouldnt do evra any harm either

It's almost as if that's his instructions. Unless of course you're suggesting Alex Ferguson is so incompetent he can't see something on a pitch a few people on an internet forum are capable of seeing.

Pretty early to say this I know.

But - I think we need a new left fullback.

I think Evra needs competition for his place and we need to be able to bring someone in who can defend and attack. I understand it was possible that we were looking at Luis Enrique but he elected to go to Liverpool in the summer (easy to see why - guaranteed more games).

But I think we also need someone who may be capable of taking over Evra's position eventually. I like Evra going forward, but his final ball (whether it is a cross or a shot) is atrocious. Apart from that his passing is not bad.

But positionally in defence I agree with the other posters here and he needs competition.

He has competition but Fabios always injured

I think he needs rest, he should go have his blood replaced at that place keeping Keith Richards alive, go to the Bath hot springs and then swim in the Bahamas for a month.

Jones can cover LB and he'll be a new man when he gets back.

I think he's worn down from always playing.

Ive never seen somebody get into soooo many good positions in the oppositions half and then hit the first man when he has a lot to aim at.

Hes improving, I saw him run back once as well. Thats one more time than the jogging he did against Basle when trying to defend. :D

It's a real shame because he does everything so well in terms of build-up.He really should have worked on his crossing years ago, it's an aspect of his game where there's been zero improvement since his Monaco years

Something I think we've been neglecting is the change of speed of Evra. When he first came he was lightning quick and among the fastest in the team if not the fastest. Watching him today, I dont know if its because he never had his heart in chasing something and going at full pace at any time, which would be worrying itself, but he didnt look anywhere near as fast as he was when he first came.

He just paced himself coming forward and got the ball to his feet instead of trying to get in behind lots like he used to. And his main contribution was trying a piece of skill on the ball to commit the defender and then passing the ball around.

Coming back he never jogged at more than a leisurely pace. Overall he came across as playing the match like you or I would over the park with some mates. Dont burn your energy, just do a job and allow your team mates to get on with it.

But he doesnt even look up even when he has time. Considering how good his passing can be (especially the one-twos he plays to get into that position) you would think he would be able to pick out his own team mate or avoid the first guy.

Evans had to constantly cover for him today in the first half. Really does need to start coming back and helping out in defense once in a while.

It's like a mental block really.Yes it requires more composure to make the final pass or the "key" pass in the box but sometimes it's ridiculous.I have absolutely no trust in him to deliver anything decent whatsoever and we're even talking about his shooting

2 seasons ago he was getting a lot of good balls in and helped us get quite a few assists but since then his final ball has just disappeared.

Every time he gets the ball in the final third, the left winger needs to get ready to track back!

The thing is we've had Vidic covering for him like that for years so he's got away with it. He's never been particularly good at getting back into position

True and that's another reason Vidic really needs to get back. He's used to covering for Evra but I'm not sure how long Fergie will continue to tolerate the poor defensive displays from Evra..

Time to try Evans at left back? Not if Park is playing left midfield of course. And as long as Evans doesn't decide to go to ground every time an attacker within 5 yards of him has the ball.

Unfortunately Evra seems untouchable in the team and has been getting away with poor performances imo for seasons. Its not just that Fabio gets injured a lot, plenty of the time he's fit and Evra is picked regardless of his form. He's even given the captain's armband depending on who else is playing. To me he's been too safe in his selection for a long time and I really hope we eventually see Fabio given a run of games, so we can see if Evra has a reaction. I think thats been a long time coming

Did anyone see Evra in his own half? I didn't.

Maybe 3 or 4 times.

There were some moments when Nani was doing his best to run back after an attack and caught up with a Norwich attacker and Evra was still casually jogging back in their half.

It's so annoying watching the opposition, for instance, playing a quick one-two to bypass him and get into our box (happened early in the game today), which is not a crime, but instead of sprinting himself to at least help cover at the center, he just jogs back.

The fact he lacks in his final ball/decision making in the final third is nothing new. Brilliant at creating space, terrible at using it. Still a positive overall. But he has to make more of an effort at the back.

There was a time in the second half where he had tucked in so far that he was actually playing as a left forward. I shit myself when I realized there was 50 yards of open space and Nani was doing his stepover routine on the wing.

His crossing is absolutely dreadful. Honestly baffles me how he gets in so many good positions and delivers it so poorly.

I still love him though.

I can forgive his crossing. He creates hell for teams through his running with the ball. It's the recent laziness to do his defensive duties that is annoying. Look at the way Hernandez sometimes buzzes around looking to win the ball back. Evra used to be just like that.

Me too...I just wish he'd go back to being the player he was a few years back.

Can't shoot, can't cross. Seriously MLS players can cross and shoot better than Evra.

But he is just so damn good at linking up and creating in the middle of the pitch on the left side.

I do think it's Fabio's time (when he gets fit)

From now on, everytime I see a player jogging back to the position he's supposed to be marking, I'm going to call it the Evra jog.

I loved it when he was the one who challenged Morison for a header just right of center of the pitch, from a goalkick! What was he doing that far infield after play was dead!

I think he's a midfield, and we're playing 361.

You'd never think that the ball can go faster then the man from some of you lot. You rarely have enough time to see how quickly Evra is getting back on television yet some of you are so quick to judge. It would be fair to get a match day goers impression before saying that he's constantly being slack getting back.

Rubbish. There are many times you can't tell, there are other times I try to give him the benefit of the doubt that there is good reason he's only jogging back (other players back there so Evra covering their spot for instance), but there are also many times where it's blatantly obvious he's only jogging back despite the fact we're being caught out. Normally happens a couple of times a match.

I never said it didn't happen, but I'd like to get a match goers opinion before blasting him. Two instances yesterday where some were blaming him, involved the ball being hoofed up field. No player in the world could get back so quickly. This is further backed up by the fact in both instances 'Evans tackled and Jones tackle' Valencia 'who's one of the quickest players on the team' was nowhere to be seen.

As far as I remember, he was one of our better defenders against Chelsea. He was at fault for both of Arsenal' goals. And even live, you can see him just jogging back (whereas ive seen Nani / Young race back to try and block the oppositions cross / attack)

I dont want this to turn into an evra-bash either. Whilst frustrating, I dont mind that much when he gets into oppositions half and doesnt beat the first man with a cross when he has all the time in the world.
However when hes just jogging back and has to be covered by others (thus pulling a CB out of position) its pretty damn annoying. If it was a long ball over the top, fine, hes never going to get back. but when the ball is on the right wing, being passed around and hes still not back and then it gets switched, and hes still not there, its all "ahhhhh".

And yes I am a "match goer".

He has been too complecent in the last 18 months. And with no one really challenging his place (come on Fabio!!!) he is in a too comfortable situation.

We usually have a lot of quality players in most position fighting for a place, LB isnt one of them
