Anyway lets agree to differ rather than take the thread OT, I'd imagine we both agree it wasn't his finest season and that his interview is pretty good.

Fingers crossed he gets back to his best next season.

I agree with the bit about Evra leaving his position exposed too often this season, it's just that in this instance he has no choice, on the second goal he kept his position and Messi just smashed one in instead. Vidic is without doubt more at fault as the fact is, he knows Pedro is there, he knows where Evra is but he loses his man.

But in the grand scheme of things we do both agree it wasn't his finest season and that his interview is pretty good. I'd imagine a summer rest will do him good and he'll be back to his best next year.

He's not been up to his usual standards since before the World Cup, It's hard to say but I don't think he's good enough for this team anymore. Defensively he's nowhere near world class, let's be honest. He never has been. Attacking wise he's been superb, but even that has been curbed in recent years.

Probably agree that we should cash in on him if he doesn't get much better fairly quick. More motivated by the need of the twins to play than him being a liability though to be fair.

Attacking wise I think he's an excellent ball carrier, but he's always had a shite delivery. Compare this to someone like Neville who consistently put a quality ball in the box. Make or break imo

make or break season, you sham

Yeah I know what you mean, but for Evra? so being so dramatic.

Makes sense when you say that for a player such as Anderson, but not the guy that's been the best full back in the world for 4 years before this one.

He MADE it a LONG time ago Wes.

Evra says Poland miss Kuszczak between the posts, his big friend (0:44).

Evra hails Cantona impact

Patrice Evra has thanked Eric Cantona for "opening the door" for Frenchmen to play for United.

Cantona became the Reds’ first-ever French player when he arrived from Leeds in 1992, and his five years with the Reds are the stuff of legend.

Evra remembers watching Cantona in action for United on television in France and believes the talismanic forward paved the way for him and other French players to succeed at Old Trafford.

In an interview to mark the launch of United's official French-language website, Evra said: "I already knew Cantona was 'The King' but I really discovered who he was when I arrived here. He is a legend.

"If French football players like me succeed at United, it is him who first opened the doors for us. We will never thank him enough for that.

"During my first season, I watched lots of Eric's DVDs and told myself 'you now know what the United fans are expecting from the French players.'"

Anyone find it somewhat suspicious that the French Site is being launched at a very specific time?

I have read this article several times and wish he would let his football do the talking.

Evra talks shit. His form has been shit.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves AdZ, he hasn't made it yet.

Ah, of course, I forgot about this. Silly Evra, he's probably not even a footballer, just a constant interviewee.

He's like a club mascot but without a costume. I think we pay him in tevision air time.

Imagine that, a combination of Crerand and Evra. Paddy For Evra, that's what I'd call the show.

It would be awesome, opposition teams probably wouldn't get a single mention over 90 minutes, Evra would provide sound-effects and call up Paddy on his ridiculous need to call a decision as definite before seeing the replay, and getting it massively wrong. Crerand would probably feel more at home, and would allow his bias to completely take over, which it does on most days anyway. Paddy would also be comforted by Patrice's inability to pronounce names perfectly, or speak the language fluently, like himself.

The end of the show would be brilliant also;

Paddy: Any final words Paddy?
Paddy: Yes Paddy, suck my pussy Lampard.
Paddy: Aye, suck Paddy's pussy Lampard, ye wee bollix.

Go on then, lay it down on us blinkered mortals....

Before I get gang-banged again.

I don't think he is better than 90% of the left backs in the world.

I am sure I will be stampeded again, but some of the stuff I read in here is quite hard to swallow.

Only because there isn't a smiley for "blinkered".

Is there a smiley for thick?

We're talking about Patrice Evra, granted he isn't in his best form, but aside from perhaps Cole name a better left back. Don't say Lahm.

Hectic, us blinkered folk fail to see that Evra is basically overrated and talks out of turn at any given chance.

This is utter madness. Evra gets asked questions you know, he doesn't go around finding journalists and opening up to them.

And some choose to berate him for it, no sorry just one really.

Who cares what he says to journalists or how he responds to questions. When players go through good form, do we expect them to suddenly start giving interviews and talking about stuff, or do we not care. Evra responding to questions is just that, and he can do so regardless of what his recent form has been. It makes no difference, it's not like Evra giving interviews at this point in time is contributing to his bad form is it? That would be retarded.

He's hardly talking out of turn either. He's an exceptional defender and one of the best we can get. A year ago, these points would have been ripped apart. It's not too long ago Rooney was looking like a shit shadow of himself, only to reach the form of his career 6 months later. What we do know is that Evra is suffering from a lack of form, not a lack of talent, or ability, just form. It's probably easier to just get riled by him giving interviews though, and suggest that this is part of the reason for his bad form, immaterial of how stupid that sounds.

I think usually people like yer man here say he should keep his mouth shut and continue doing the talking on the pitch.

In other words, shut up and play. No talking to the media. Ever.

Correct. Nearly.

It isn't difficult. Paul Scholes wasn't just an outstanding player, he was the perfect team member.

Kept his mouth shut and kept us entertained.

I have to admit to hating players doing the talking, that is the manager's job.

I followed Rio et al on that twitter shite and was regularly embarassed by what they had to say.

Call me old-fashioned.

Paul Scholes is a very rare thing in this footballing era though. Even the mercurial Giggs has recently fecked up massively.

Why though? It doesn't have a bearing on Evra's form though, whether it's good or bad. I can't see an issue with players talking, or responding to the media as long as the club isn't being brought into disrepute, players are humans, and it's easy to wish every player would shut up and just address the pitch, but that's not realistic, or feasible.

What is with all the Evra hate these days? He had a poor season which imo was coming sometime given the amount of football that he plays. 55 games a season at an average for us, wasnt it? Bound to drop off sometime. Not to forget the french national team farce that went on.

But He's still up there with the best. Needs some rest, a good pre-season kickabout and he'll rediscover his form again.

My point the other day was a simple one, but it went into orbit at the hands of a few, regular protagonists.

Evra is a bit of a clown and he must be perceived by journos as a soft touch.

Whether it is or is not, feasible or realistic to stop them talking shite, it surely must be desirable?

I remember back in December when Evra was giving it large about Arsenal being a training ground and other nonsense. Yeah, we managed to beat them by a goal but later in May they returned the favour and piled the pressure back on. I bet the team were cringing. I know I certainly was.

As funny as it may seem, had we gotten beat at OT after those comments, the team, not just Evra would have been made to look stupid.

I see this in the same way as the following example:

A day or two before a big game, a team is photographed drinking in a club/pub. If the team wins the game, nobody cares about their session. But, God help them if they lose - then they're considered to be 'unprofessional', 'careless', 'a disgrace' etc etc. While that reaction is understandable, it's hardly objective, informed and balanced.

Paddy's comments are often entertaining, and besides, every team needs someone like him for the purposes of morale.

He is paid to play, not to entertain.

I look forward to see him back to his best, but I have serious doubts that we will. He admitted his poor form but then blamed his late pre-season prep.

He says that the May defeat to Arsenal was the turning point. Good grief, he left it late.

He is 30 and I think he is past his best.

I hope, considering his £90K per week, that I am wrong.

To be fair, his play and that of other footballers is a form of entertainment.
