I must have seen another game as I thought he was good. Two goal saving clearances and an excellent challenge on Ramires at the end.

Nobody is doubting his abilities, but he's in a shocking run of form and that can't be ignored just because we like him. He's causing us problems.

how about tackling the root of the problem rather than its consequences

He makes me nervous, i just think he is gonna give a penalty away everytime the opposition are in the penalty box but apart from that he did okay

I cannot be too harsh on him because of the goal-line clearance, but he has gotten very sloppy. Maybe he is just exhausted, but it cannot be ignored.

After this season, it is time for Fabio to shine.

Root of the problem is that he needs to start playing better defensively. Whether it's a rest or not that will fix it no clue. There are too many cases of when he goes in for a challenge and leaves us exposed or is a little bit out of position.

I love Patrice - he is God but, even me who defends pretty much any player on our squad has to say - the man needs to sort himself out or it's going to cost us. The brain fart for Bayern's second (1st) leg was a prime example of how he just doesn't think sometimes.

he need to stop doing silly things in the penalty box, nearly cost us a win, very lucky to got away from the penalty decison.....

I think that is when the decline began.

For the 3 years prior to that incident, he was an absolutely fantastic player for us.

He made a brilliant clearance at the end of the first half. In this second half, he was pretty awful. Drogba was all over him and he easily ran past Evra, he got hit by the ball, he made a clumsy challenge on Ramires which could have tied the game up.

it was a great fecking header against Anelka, too. and he knocked himself out from it.

The root is he needs a rest, and not just one game, he needs a holiday or something, a proper bit of time away from the game. Problem is he's not going to get that until summer.

Great clearance. But his defensive game is still not what it used to be. There were a few moments where they were able to attack us down the left.

Played poorly in the main, seemed to be off balance most of the time, Drogba targeted him and had a lot of success. He will need to raise his game in the second leg. He has managed to come back from bad performances before.

So come on Paddy get your head right. We are going to need the real you in the upcoming games.

Give me O'shea or even Fabio over him right now. He was caught out time and again. If he comes up against a quality right winger he'll be in massive trouble. Seems to have forgotten how to defend. The summer will do him a lot of good

I think anyone who thinks that was in any way an acceptable performance, or that he has been in remotely good form this season, is doing him a huge disservice.

God knows what's wrong with him but he's been a shadow of himself in so many games this season, he gives us another dimension going forward and is generally very solid and he's rarely brought either to the table this season. He'll be back though.

The prediction I made in the Rafael thread several months ago looks excellent. I was ridiculed at the time but I am sure other posters will now agree. Rafael has undoubtedly surpassed Evra. He is our best fullback.

He was slipping all over the place today - not sure what that was about - that put him/us in a pickle a few times.

We really need the footballer Evra to turn up and replace postman Pat for our remaining games of the season.

Responded well to a difficult day at West Ham- let's not forget that. Can't turn form on with a tap all you can ask is maximum effort and he was much improved if still a tad shakey at times

I don't trust him anymore defensively, not in a long term sense.. just at the moment. Seems very shaky and not the true messiah we know and love. He's still crucial for us in an attacking sense, just due to his ability to carry the ball but we really need him to find form. Evra at his best would've relished the challenge with Drogba tonight, whereas the current version just got manhandled.

Some harsh criticism here, it was a good performance on the whole.

This. Pointless criticism with very little behind it, he was decent tonight. His positioning on the line prevented a certain goal and he did pretty well otherwise.

Well all criticism on here is essentially pointless, but to say there is very little behind it is nonsense, he got mullered several times last night and while not being brutally bad this season, there is no way he has been anywhere near the standard of past seasons.

He had a torrid time at the World Cup and hasn't been the same since. We need him to get his head right now.

Good game by Patrice today, I thought. His link-up play with Nani was excellent as usual. Then again, it's his defensive qualities that have been lacking lately, and we were never tested today.

I thought he was great today; made some good interceptions and always provided that outlet on the wing. More of the same, please.

Not the Evra of old, will struggle to maintain his place in the team if he doesnt improve

Was better defensively in the final half hour when he finally seemed to realize that he's actually a defender.

Still too many worrying slips/giving the ball away moments.
