Paraguayan left back Diego León arriving in July

It's a massive ask to go from playing in Costa Rica to playing in the Premier League.

We are taking a bit of a punt at £3 million but the odds are he is very unlikely to make it here. I'm guessing that we will loan him out for a few years and see how he progresses.

It's an interesting insight in to how we are looking at new markets but It doesn't seem like one to get particularly excited about!

One very important thing to keep in mind about Paraguay though is that it is not Costa Rica.

Perhaps he has been sounded out as a potential wing back conversion? Could be the kind of deal a club with a competent scouting department does.

Well, we're buying him for either LCB or LWB, or both. I think that's clear.

If he can stay fit, then its already an improvement

At 17, he looks physically strong and fast. If this boy got a engine in him, I think he is a extremely good buy. I won't be surprised that he is identified by Amorim when he was in Sporting. If he continues to develop, he can be our LWB for many years to come. We will be seeing many crossing from his left foot. I think he has got the potential.

This sounds like a Sporting buy. Buy for less than €5m and sell him for €50m 2-3 years down the road.

Yeah he looks talented for his age for sure and very athletic. I’m glad we are stepping into this niche in the market and I hope we do it a lot more often. Pellistri shouldn’t put anyone off. He’ll end up a decent player but we do need to provide these guys with a lot more games or much better loans or they will stagnate
I think the difference is physically. Pellistri doesn't have the size or pace to play in the EPL. Even great Messi might struggle in the EPL, maybe that's why he won't consider moving to EPL. This boy probably just need one loan move to get playing time to get use to EPL.

He has speed. He didnt have an end product

Messi in his prime in a Liverpool or City team would have destroyed the PL in the same manner he dispatched the PL teams he met in the CL repeatedly. Now I’m not underselling Xavi Inseta and co behind him but I think a competent team built around him and he is getting you 30 plus goals a season and winning you the CL. He is the GOAT

If he is only 17, has he even turned pro yet? In other words, is he León: The Professional?

Don't mind this one. Low-risk, high reward. There has definitely been a very notable change in our transfer policy and approach.

David Silva, Bernardo Silva, Aguero, Salah etc were all incredible in the PL and are all small, Messi is head and shoulders above all them. Laughable to think the guy that ripped the best PL clubs to shreds in the Champions League would struggle against Fulham, Bournemouth and co.

Queue the let's loan him when next season starts even though the current players have been atrocious and we don't have a natural left wing back

Yeah, he should be loaned out to the Championship for four years and then hopefully by the time he's 21/22 he'll be ready to get 5/10 minutes in a few Carabao Cup games for us against some League Two sides, but only if we're winning by three goals first.

Not only is this a bad argument, it's a bad argument from 2008.

"León would arrive at United in June 2025". What are they sending him on, a camel?

I like it that the club is targeting highly rated young players, Sekou Kone is an example of that, Leon is probably highly rated youth talent in South America, what matters is that there is a plan tailored for each based on where they are in terms of development, Kone for example isn't ready for men's football so he'll need time, this fella, from the YT clips seems like he plays in men's football, so if he joins next summer, his plan should be different, I wouldn't be surprised if he is part of the first team right away and competing with whoever is the LWB in Amorim's side.

Apparently Arsenal and Mancity were tracking him as well

This was on 2nd October

It’s great we signed a highly rated prospect but we definitely need a proven player to start next season.

Is this what we’re doing now? Targeting top talent from each country and dropping a few million to take a punt? Kone from Mali, this guy from Paraguay, maybe Nypan from Norway, etc. Not gonna lie, it’s pretty exciting.

It is much more sensible that targeting overrated past it superstars or a few fake ones that had some good numbers in inferior leagues and we buy them at premium. Di Maria, Casemiro, Antony, Sancho etc. For each one of those we could take a punt on ten 5 million youngsters. If only one or two will make it thats a 50-100 million saved in transfer fees and from others you will still be able to recoup most of the investment as they will still develop a bit and can be resold.
