Paraguayan left back Diego León arriving in July

Might be something in the rumours linking Amass with Villa.

I wouldn’t understand selling him to Villa atm unless they’re willing to pay a semi-serious amount of money like £25m. If we are to sell him it would make much more sense to sell him to a lower prem or championship team like a Sunderland with a chunky sell-on clause. If he goes to Villa he’s far less likely to be sold on anytime soon.

I don't think we should be selling him at all. He might just take year or two to fully develop, but his game going forward is very promising and he's still so young. We've got to move on from both Shaw and Malacia IMV.

The only reason I could see Amass move would be for PSR purposes, not because he's not looked up with great promise. I hope he stays.

He looks more physically developed than Amass. Quicker, stronger, more aggressive. He doesn't look any better as a footballer though. Amass is silky smooth.
I can see Leon being a more suitable wing back. The pace he gets up and down the flank is pretty impressive. Amass has been groomed for a position that doesn't really exist under Amorim so it's probably unsurprising that Amorim viewed him as unready.

Amass is defensively suspect. A LWB position with less defending responsibility is actual what Amass should be good at. He was not ready for LB position. For Amorim system, Amass has a place at LWB

Having 2 young players to fight it out should be good. Competition for places will make Amass better.

We have had plenty of LB prospects for years but they struggle with the step up to the mens game.

Tyler Blackett, played both LB and CB. Played 12 times for the senior team, now 30 and doesn't have a club.

Cameron Borthwick Jackson looked tidy, played 14 games for the senior team. Now is 27 and doesn't have a club.

Brandon Williams. Played 51 games for the senior team. Now is 24 and doesn't have a club!

It's madness, but all 3 looked pretty decent at one stage.

Shows how much I have an eye for talent. I believed all three would make it here at some point  Not world beaters, but long term squad options.

Add in Kunkonki seems Amorim rates him, can play LWB and eventually with more experience LCB

Once again, you have to ask what the hell is our academy doing.

How can we not produce an in-house left back?

How many clubs are producing left backs ready to play at the top level by 19/20 years old?

It's a very rare thing.

How much are we talking for sell-on though? The Championship record transfer is like £15M. If the options are:

1) Villa for £25M
2) A Championship team for £15M plus 20% sell-on

The Championship team would have to later sell him for £50M just for us to break even with the first offer, and that's before considering the time value of money. The Villa offer is almost surely better overall.

You could have an even higher sell-on, but too much higher and you'd start making it tougher to get a transfer deal down in the first place.

Not just left backs, players generally. You’d have to be so special to play first team football for a top club at that age.

Built like a tank but his ball control seems suspect from the YT videos I've watched. Hopefully he's a good one.
