It's a massive ask to go from playing in Costa Rica to playing in the Premier League.
We are taking a bit of a punt at £3 million but the odds are he is very unlikely to make it here. I'm guessing that we will loan him out for a few years and see how he progresses.

Cerro Porteño is a very well known and respected side in South America. Have been protagonists in many Copa Libertadores. I like the idea of signing a younger profile of player from abroad.
Best case scenario he develops the way that the club hopes or better and we get ourselves a starter or squad player. If he doesn't develop enough for us or his style doesn't suit the league, we can always get him a loan move and potentially a move that garners us a profit. Worst case we get ourselves a small loss or break even.
The way that the financial rules are, I sadly think we need to be much better at developing younger talents for the benefit of the balance sheet homegrown or foreign.

It's the biggest club in Paraguay alongside Olimpia, like it's said above they've reached semis in Libertadores many times and are tough as any Paraguayan side.
Paraguay BTW didn't had too many major figures, yet they had some ocasional great players in their history, specially in the old days fellas like Arsenio Erico. He was trully admired by everyone in his time, from Perdernera, to Di Stefano, he was quite a maverick as a goalscorer.

All a bit late. Allowing Chelsea to have a free run at both Estevão and Kendry Paez was borderline criminal. While Todd Boely was busy ‘ruining Chelsea’ by buying the best young talent around, we were balancing their sheet by paying 55m for Mason fecking Mount.
Hopefully the first of many South American lesser-known talents that we acquire on the cheap and sell them for profit or develop them into first team players.

I remember when Ragnick said that it's considered a success if you get 50% of your transfers right. I'd say when it comes to young players I'd be happy if 1 in 5 made it. It's the right approach.

I definitely remember throwing a strop on here back after the Caicedo failure when people made excuses for Murtough because "it wasn't clear who his agent was and how to get the deal done" and then later the Endrick signing as well. Estevao and Paez just add to the list, but to see people excusing our lack of participation in South American wonderkids was a joke.

Alvarez too, could've made us a pretty penny.
He would have been pretty much our best player the last couple of seasons.
And would've allowed us to use move spent on Hojlund/Zirkzee on other positions.
I hope over the next few years, we keep making deals that represent value like Mazraoui.
Paulo Wanchope was pretty good, why can't a special talent come out of a smaller league? So was Ole for that matter. Obviously he'll be given time to adapt but why couldn't he contribute within a year or two if the players ahead of him don't show anything better?
It’s pretty much the only way we are going back to relevance now. We’ve wasted too much money already to buy our way to success so we need to count on scouting and value to bail us out.
All successful teams are at least to some extent built on good value players though. It’s impossible to just buy everyone at a high price like we’ve tried for years.

Yeah he looks talented for his age for sure and very athletic. I’m glad we are stepping into this niche in the market and I hope we do it a lot more often. Pellistri shouldn’t put anyone off. He’ll end up a decent player but we do need to provide these guys with a lot more games or much better loans or they will stagnate
The Caicedo failure had nothing to do with Murtough because he was the head of youth development and in charge of doing deals at youth level. So it's not people making excuses but rather pointing to the people who were in charge at the executive level pertaining to first team transfers like Ed Woodward and the transfers/contracts director Matt Judge.
And as far as Kendry Paez and Estevao are concerned, it was simply down to the Chelsea ownership being far more aggressive in pursuing players which got them the signatures of those players. Both players are youth players and to even have a chance of signing them the ownership need to provide the tools to the guys working directly within the youth structure to even have a chance.
I haven't seen Estevao yet, but Paez looked like an ideal fit for the right-sided #10 role in Amorim's system when I watched him at the Copa America.
