Paraguayan left back Diego León arriving in July

Not good news for Amass, Leon already has the attributes we are crying out for in pace and physicality. Is he likely to go in to the youth set up for a season like Chido is doing?

Amass has pace and physicality? They are probably the two things he is weakest at and holding him back stepping up to the men’s game currently! Or are you referring to Leon?

By 'he' I was refering to the new lad, worded it badly

Ahh right. Yeah gotcha.

Amass I feel will need a loan in the championship to assess him. The Amad route hopefully.

This lad looks like he may be able to transition directly due to the fact he’s already having exposure at the men’s level and he has the physical attributes.

I've seen about five different photos of him today and he looks different in every one, be funny to see which one turns up! Hope it's the one that would definitely do me in.

We don't know the path of young players. The best way to have several young prospects in every positions. It's great for Amass, the other prospects and the club.

You can't just wait and hang your hat on another reserve player making it. There needs to be a healthy, competitive professionalism at the club.
If Amass makes it, Great. If he doesn't, so be it.

He'll be 18 in July, he better get a loan to the championship and bulk up before then.

I’d prefer if we used the funds to buy back Fernandez from Benfica. Should never have sold him in the first place.

We had a very good look at him and while he’s done well I doubt any club with CL hopes are going to rushing out to sign him yet. I say this as someone who really rated Alvaro and thought he did really well in youth football and on loan and now at Benfica too. He’s definitely going to make it to a high level but we need Davies or not perma injured Shaw levels to slot in and instantly bring balance to that side of the pitch. Alvaro is still just another project player like León. We also have a big sell on fee for him. I’m happy to see us moving on players who certainly look like PL squad players at the very least to make room for new players who could actually be world class or at the very least have more raw potential.

Need more of these types of signings. Low fee, low risk, high potential.

While I am not against this particular signing, I do feel that it should be pointed out that such signings are not the ‘low-risk’ that seems to be echoed in here.

Filling key positions with unknown, untested, cheap punt players is a strategy that carries plenty of risk. The realisation of such a risk is of course a team of sub-par players, who you constantly even need 2-3 years of sub par performances before you even accept that they are sub par because of course, they are young and ‘need time’ to develop.

The risk in this particular instance is reduced simply because we can’t even work out whether we have an actual left back problem or not given we now seemingly don’t play with one. However, if we did, there would be great risk in filling a position of such desperation with an untested kid. If we had a senior LB of consistent quality - then it would be low risk as an understudy. But it is high risk if we think that we are going to build a PL winning team with U21s for under £20m.

We are doomed if our management team thinks these signings are for first team from the word go.

As a club we have to think beyond next season and even after that. When scouts spots a talent and its with reasonable price range, its better to sign them. We can play him for U21s, loan him our or even play as back up player in cups to assess him. If we dont sign first choice LB/LWB next summer then can see us struggling big time.

Actually, let's derraill this...I know the answer...the most important one it's the one the azulgrana one, the Barcelona alike.

I dunno if thosecolors has to do with its origin where an Argie, Lorenzo Massa, helped to keep the Club afloat. This fella was the founder of San Lorenzo de Almagro, a very traditional club from Buenos Aires (the one Viggo Mortensen it's a fan and uses the kit even at the Oscars), yet more than probably not. "El Ciclón" nickname, its a nick taht San lorenzo also uses, but it seems it has to do with an epic comeback match in 1918 or sthg. Lots of coincidences with San Lorenzo, but seems it's just that.

The Cerro Porteño one...

Wow! Surprised there isn't a law suit

I've been following his development, watching Cerro Porteno u-18 games for a number of years, like most CAF posters. He's exactly what we need and will solve all our problems.

He looks more physically developed than Amass. Quicker, stronger, more aggressive. He doesn't look any better as a footballer though. Amass is silky smooth.

Love signings like this

Cheap punt, classy name, fast as feck

What’s not to like?

Absolutely. We would all love a bunch of our academy players making the first team squad, but realistically, only two or three may make it across several age groups, but those two or three will be of a standard which will enhance the squad.
Also, the players who don't quite reach the standard required will, hopefully, bring in some much needed cash into the club when sold on, and with possible sell on fees, or buy back clauses, we will still have the ability to gain from their experiences with another club.

Once again, you have to ask what the hell is our academy doing.

How can we not produce an in-house left back?
We have had plenty of LB prospects for years but they struggle with the step up to the mens game.

Tyler Blackett, played both LB and CB. Played 12 times for the senior team, now 30 and doesn't have a club.

Cameron Borthwick Jackson looked tidy, played 14 games for the senior team. Now is 27 and doesn't have a club.

Brandon Williams. Played 51 games for the senior team. Now is 24 and doesn't have a club!

It's madness, but all 3 looked pretty decent at one stage.

I didn't think much if the first two, but Brandon yeah. Although, rightly or wrongly, I'm led to believe his downward turn had little to do with football.

Watched Harry Amass live on Tuesday, he was brilliant and should be getting minutes in the Europa games.

Something suspicious about that for me, how he hasn't got a club is absolutely madness. He's a decent player and is only young.

I genuinely hope he gets it together as he was fun to watch
Superchargéd aggression. You love to see it in youngsters, but it never lasts. Brandon is obviously minted now, but I really do hope he forgets a career for himself.

I've never been very impressed with him to be honest.

The biggest talent in the academy right now looks to be Amir.
