Paraguayan left back Diego León arriving in July

Built like a tank but his ball control seems suspect from the YT videos I've watched. Hopefully he's a good one.
how the hell is he only 17 - looks like he could eat a room of 17-year-olds!

So he’s most likely to spend next season in our academy team? With possibilities of making the first team squads in league cup games.

"This morning! Diego León passed his medical without any problems and will be announced as a new Manchester United player. $4 million plus $1 million of easy supplements and more than $3.5 million of difficult supplements for Cerro Porteño. Leon will join United in July 2025. He returns to Paraguay tomorrow, Tuesday."

Passed his medical. Apparently.

“Difficult supplements”

I’d imagine they are welcome supplements

Looks like a town full of United fans have been born

Welcome Diego

I saw an interview with Manolo Jiménez, who was the coach of León's club side when he broke through, talking about him with great pride.

He described him as have all the qualities of the archetypal attacking full back in the modern era. He did highlight that the defensive side of his game needs work, and that his decision-making needs to improve. That does sound more like he's one for the future rather than him being in and around the first team squad once he joins.

1 game I know, but with Heaven and Dorgu showing promising signs last night. Add Pedro Leon into the mix and things are looking much more positive over on that left side of defence.

Think León is more a gamble than an expected first teamer. He’ll be in the youth setup for a year or 2.

Logically yes, I dunno just got a good feeling about this one. He’s already got the build and the pace so really it’s about adapting to English football

Looks very raw. Amass is technically much much ahead to Leon. He is obviously a strong fast lad - maybe the coaches think they can help him develop technically quite fast.

Dorgu looks very promising already and with Amass and León also now at the club you’d like to think we’ve got left wing back sewn up long term with those three, I’d like us to bring in a right footed right wing back to upgrade on Dalot now.

That defender… what is he doing playing them all on .

Dorgu, Leon, Maz, Dalot will be the 4 wing backs next year imo. I reckon Amass gets loaned.

I don’t think we will play with 4 wingbacks.

It’s ridiculous really.

This is the Caf. If we don't have superstars at every position, we would be accused of letting our standards fall.

Dalot is the Denis Irwin of this generation. 6-7 out of 10 in every game. Not flashy but works hard and plays where he is told.

Let’s see how we play and whether we continue getting result after the break. If we do continue improving, there will be much less whining. The situation here has been so dire for so long.

Seems like fans always struggle to adjust expectations based on level of competition. I wouldn't say we're improving, personally. We've just played easier opponents. Our last five wins are FCSB, Leicester, Ipswich Town, Real Sociedad, Leicester. There's not a solid PL-level team among that group.

When we play the likes of Forest-City-Newcastle, the team will probably go back to losing a bunch. Then we'll have to hear fans worry "we're falling apart again", and "Amorim can't get through to the players" or even the dreaded "We can't play 3 at the back". It's none of that. We'll just have gone back to playing teams that are better than us again.

We've really only beaten two teams better than us in the entire season without penalty kicks: Fulham twice and Man City. That's it; the rest were against inferior teams save for the flukey Arsenal PKs.

Dorgu can equally play right side
In his first game for us when he played on the right, he tended to use his left foot a lot and generally seemed uncomfortable. Could of course be because it was his first game for a new club in the league, but why use a player who could be excellent in his natural position in another position where he could just be average? A better solution will be to just get rid of Shaw, loan either one of Leon or Amass for a year and use the other as a backup to Dorgu.

You never saw Denis Irwin play to insult him like this. Even from his Youtube clips you can see that he and Dalot are not in the same universe.

Think you need to reevaluate your impression of Irwin. More like an 8-9/10 every game. He is regularly mentioned when his teammates are asked to pick an all time United 11.

Denis Irwin in his prime was better then Evra and would shit all over Gaz let alone the likes of Trent-Arnold.

As someone who was lucky enough to watch Irwin’s entire United career saying that Dalot is this generations version may be the biggest insult I’ve ever seen for Irwin on here, I’d argue with anyone that Irwin is the best full back we’ve ever had at the club and if include Byrne and Evra in that too.

As I said to someone last night Dalot is a good squad option who we should definitely upgrade on in the summer (I think Mazraoui is far better as the right sided centre back) but kept around as on the right he’s at times brilliant and also we can’t just get rid of everyone and replace them straight away.

If Frimpong has a £34 million release clause we should try bringing him in and have him rotate with Dalot, we look so much better with the wing backs playing on their natural side and providing genuine width instead of inverted wing backs and constantly cutting inside and creating problems for ourselves.

I know it’s opinions but that’s one of the biggest understatements I’ve seen.

Irwin was an amazing player, only Cole challenges him in best PL FB discussions. Irwin never had a 6 out of 10 performance in his career, I put him in my AT XI, as would SAF.

Dalot has had plenty less than 6 … less than 4.

Million miles apart.

Dalot and Irwin in the same sentence.

Forgot we’ve signed this guy. Will he see first team action next year or are we going to loan him out to a championship team or something?

There we have it. The worst opinion ever to be shared on the caf.
