Owen Hargreaves | 2010/11 Performances

A bit like Owen in that I just don't care anymore, I've given up all hope and he's most certainly gone in the Summer, for nothing.

I think it's about time we heard something clinical from either the club or Hargreaves himself on his situation

Owen did his hamstring this time last season and that ruled him out for 3 months/the rest of the season, if Hargreaves problem was similar (which would be terrible bad luck) he should of been back at the start of this month or at the very least looking on the verge of a March comeback

TBH though I am highly cynical that it's his hamstring that's keeping him out of action at the moment, was it ever confirmed by the club what kind of Hamstring injury it was? Can anyone remember what Owen's was at the end of last season?

Personally I think it's only a matter of time before he announces his retirement, we'd be insane to offer him any kind of contract here as he clearly doesn't have the mental state to ever want to play football again and with that in mind would it be worth any other club taking a risk on him? I suspect there will be takers I just cant understand why...

I can understand people thinking there may be an update when this thread is bumped but it would be silly to start another thread everytime people wanted to discuss him

Theoretically, yeah, but when people are bumping it often when there are no updates it's not perfect.

I see you've identified the problem. The solution is not to change the title.

There are other threads on Hargreaves that can be bumped to discuss him in general terms and there's absolutely nothing wrong with starting a new thread (saying "we missed Hargreaves last night" or whatever) if they want to discuss him in the context of a particular game.

Bumping massive, old threads with a post that bears no relevance to the subject of the OP (other than the player's name) just causes confusion.

Definitely. I got a bit excited when I saw that the thread had been bumped :(

It was a tear in his hammy. I'm still standing by my prediction that he'll never play for the club again (first team).

Why don't you change the title then?

Eh? This thread is for updates on Hargreaves. I would have thought the title is pretty much perfect.

Bearing in mind the title of the thread, I really hope the next bump is because someone actually has an "Update on Hargreaves". It's frustrating to see an "Update" thread appear on the home page when there isn't any update.

There's no point bumping it to ask the question. If there ever is an update someone will bump it for you. No bump. No update. Simples.

Official Update: He's still injured.

Which I'm pretty sure was what Owen did at this time last year so in theory Hargreaves should have been back either at the beginning of this month or at the latest March

What's the betting that come April he still hasn't kicked a ball for us....

For arguments sake lets say he has to retire through injury, will United have some sort of insurance/ compensation on him or is the 16M paid for a write off?

I'd say if there was an avenue for compensation we'd have heard about it by now, that and he did contribute massively in his debut season

Just one of those things I guess, he did have a bit of an injury prone reputation before joining so we must have know the risk we were taking signing him albeit no one expected him to have 3 seasons out of the game

Such a shame given the potential of the player, same applies to Saha really

We need a CAF representative in SAF's pressers to ask the real questions that fans want answered.

Too often journos are interested in who is shagging who.

Very true, it's been too long now without a definite answer about what the hell is going on

Unless 'within the business' it's common knowledge that he's finished...

Utd will have an insurance policy out on all of their players (either individually or as a group) to guard against the costs associated with the damage of valuable assets like Hargreaves. Unfortunately without seeing the policy there's no way of knowing how comprehensive the cover is, that is, how much we get if he has a career ending injury for example.

I'd imagine that only covers younger players anyway, Hargreaves is probably in his thirties now which is when quite a few retire through legitimate reasons

There should be a separate thread "We miss Hargo and his hair" for lamenting his lack of knees.

At this point I think the club are just letting the lad come to terms with what lies ahead from him, rather than putting it out in the media where they would be in his face all the time.

I dont buy that, he's had 3 years now to get used to the idea that his playing career is potentially over. I would imagine him and the club would have already decided that should his last comeback not work out then it would be time to call it a day

I dont think he'd get all that attention either, Neville didn't his retirement buzz lasted a couple of days at most and he'd played a lot more recently than Hargreaves has

Neville was at retirement age, Hargreaves isn't.

Knowing it was a possibility and it being a reality are very different though, I feel for him a lot and I think there is little point in us announcing anything before the end of the season.

The difference between Hargo and Nevs is that one career came to a natural end, the other was cut short at 27. Not to mention the media will highlight the fact we paid £18M for 39 games, from a story perspective Hargreaves is a football tragedy.

Fergie is saving Hargreaves for Chelsea away.

He was immense in the CL final.

The only other Canadian born player with even the slightest chance at playing for United is David Hoilett. Shame.
