Out of control dogs/dog attacks

Why? Because it’s been illegal for longer?
Perhaps I should have said irrelevant to the conversation at hand. I wasn't absolving the guy of any blame. Also the tone of the post was condescending with the pray tells and perchances, referring to the interview with the phrase soapy tit wank was all a bit odd and not something I was interested in engaging with seriously.

The false equivalence I’d have probably singled out was the notion that yer man being upset about what happened is the equivalent to a murderer being upset when he’s sentenced. That was really quite something.

They aren't monstrous animals. They aren't pets but calling them monstrous is a bit much. Humans are way more sick and crazy and horrible but we still continue to breed those.
I reserve the right to call sentient killing machines "monstrous animals". There are also some monstrous humans. I have some sympathy with the dogs, as they are acting on instinct and know no better.

If you have an XL Bully that doesn't eventually turn on you or someone else, I'd say you're very lucky.

There are breeds that have a stronger fighting instinct and when that is coupled with incredible jaw strength and an instinct not to let go it is a recipe for disaster.

There are lots of dog breeds available so not allowing a few isn't punishing anyone unless you want one precisely because it is (or looks) dangerous. In which case you are a weirdo and I don't care what you think.

I haven't watched that video but I'd say it is quite possible to have empathy for him even if he is an idiot who is lying to himself/us and the situation self-inflicted.

I definitely feel for the dog owner after watching the vid, he looks like a broken man.

Why can't you just feel for the guy, while also acknowledging that he was very irresponsible? And then feeling 'more sorry' (whatever that means in this instance) for the woman.
Because that would be breaking e-code and empathy distribution points, which must be summarily applied to one side and one side only. :nono:

Fair enough. I think he's a complete idiot, but I'm not sure that his "regret" was necessarily insincere.

He may well be an idiot but making out that someone doesn't sincerely have regrets, when their son is now likely traumatised, after witnessing his grandmother being savaged by his own pets is a bold claim.

Mistake to put out a ‘Sun’ interview/tape. Body language analysts will be all over it.

It's funny when they put a stock image of a pit bull in these articles as though it were the perpetrator. Imagine if we did that with people like

Man sexually assaults woman

Another one where even half a dozen people attacking it with blunt objects doesnt phase it or put a dent in the rampage at all.

You'd have way more chance stopping a mountain lion or bear attack because they have functioning brains and a sense of self preservation.
I knocked out a pitbull in the countryside once, one punch to the face.

But that's not the law. The law was followed here.

2 time bombs that were at least muzzled whenever in public and so only actually posed a danger to the owner. Just lucky she didnt have kids or grandkids around.
Oh right okay. Just so I understand - is the law that no one can have a bully after the ban was put in place but anyone who had it before just needs to muzzle and spay/neuter their dog?

They were all within the law so at least they only posed a danger to the owner, sad as it is. They take that risk with them though.

Woman, 23, killed in County Limerick dog attack

One TikTok video captioned 'my boy' shows the owner dancing in her kitchen with her dog and laughing. The overlaying audio hauntingly plays: 'This is my son, and I don't give a f*** if you think he looks aggressive.'

Posted in December, the footage with the audio continues: 'I don't give a f*** if you don't like the look of him, and I certainly don't give a f*** if you think the breed should be banned.'

Apparently the attack was filmed on CCTV and her family found out when a bloke who had access to the footage sent them an 18 second clip of her being mauled to death. The whole thing is incredibly fecked up.

Seems like she had two XLs, a staffie and a french bulldog.

One of the XLs mauled her then the staffie joined in. XL took 4 shots from police before it stopped rampaging.

Would be quite ironic if it was the one she was dancing with on tiktok
If that's 4 shots with live ammo then Jesus!

Play stupid games, win stupid prices.

If fairness, I'd say most of the people who own these dogs always say it's the owner, not the dogs.
That tells you all you need to know about their intelligence.

All these dogs are unbelievably lovely until the time their not, when it's too late.
Place will be a better place when they're gone.... The dogs I mean, not the owners, although, when I think about it...

Dogs bred for fighting other dogs doing what their genes tell them to do.. I bet the owner was screaming "he has never done this before!"
Why can't they just keep their bloodsport beasts on a fecking lead?
They're buying them for image. It's horrible.

I know it sounds horrible, but it should be a criminal offence to have one of these dogs of a certain size and strength walking without a lead in a public space

There's a clown that used to walk with his massive rottweiler without a lead next to my daughter's school when she was in reception as the kids were coming out. So irresponsible. I don't hear a lot of bad press with rotties, but they're powerful enough to cause serious damage if one were to suddenly flip.

With a lot of these cases, I don't think the dogs have been known to be overly aggressive in the past, but they can throw a tantrum (like any person) for whatever reason, and if that happens, they're just too powerful to keep in check. Not to the same extent, but it's very similar to these folk keeping large big cats. One lash out and it's all over.

If a medium or small sized dog throws a tantrum, the owner restrains them and they get a telling off. If these huge ones decide to do the same, it's usually fatal.
