Ousmane Dembele

But one that the geniuses at Liverpool wanted to make? It's only because they couldn't convince the player to leave that they didn't progress the deal
Juventus wanted to buy him too earlier this summer

If he can get over his injury issues(wasn't a crock before joining Barca), he's a €100m player easily. It is a gamble but which transfer isn't?
As long as it doesn't stop us moving for Sancho next summer, it is a calculated gamble worth taking. The boy is only 23.
He made his professional debut in September 2014 and joined Barcelona in August 2017, so basically he's only been injury prone for half of his professional career? As I say a loan with an option would be a good deal, a permanent signing is a huge risk because this isn't just a gamble on whether the player settles or doesn't or whether he will injured or not (because anyone can get injured), it's whether he can get over so many injury issues we know he's had.

What was the name of that french Cnut who was always falling foul of clubs and was considered bad news? He apparently never turned up for a trial at Sheffield Wednesday
Then some Yorkshire club signed him:lol:

No idea what happened after that

They could afford the risk, especially with Salah,Mane,Shaq,Minamino and Firmino as established first teamers/squad members.
We really cant. If Dembele is out for a considerable time, we just have Greenwood. That's it.

He had no injury issues though mate. I guess that’s what most people are worry about. If we are getting the BVB version of Dembele, i’m sure there will be no one against this

After, he was in the league team of the season and YPOTY his only year in Germany

Wait, he only had one year playing in Germany? Why is it he so injury prone after his Barca move? I really hope it’s a case of his club that is not taking care of him well while i would like to think we could

Well at this point I’d take Lt.Dan on the RW so feck it, give me some YouTube highlights!

You're honestly better off going into this signing with no expectation or hope. It's the only way this will work.

If I approach it like the Bebe deal where there's no expectations or hope, I think I can stomach this.

But I won't be watching any Youtube videos to remind of his actual talent.

That's just not going to happen in a billion years. it's one or the other or neither.
With his injuries, we can't risk him being the only option there in the long-term. For a one year loan spell, it's fine, but any longer and it's a risk.

In any case, the fact we're going in for him on loan would indicate that we're willing to hold the Sancho purchase one season rather than giving up on him joining entirely.

Getting both in would be just about perfect in terms of the overall squad as well - we need quality options and in that part of the pitch we're devoid of them as soon as our top 3 go down. Bringing in Sancho gives us the opportunity to afford a more serene development path to Greenwood, as well as increased opportunities to play centrally. While bringing in Dembele means that James can move to the left, where he is a much better player. City had Sane, Sterling, Mahrez for the two wide positions, and Aguero and Jesus for the striker role. We'll have Sancho, Rashford, and Dembele for those wide positions and Greenwood and Martial for the forward role.

James will be afforded more time to develop, and if he can't meet the standards eventually, he can be let go, but for a £15m punt, he's done just about fine thus far.

Was he injury proned at Dortmund or did it happen after he moved to Barca?

His first big injury happened within three weeks of his Barcelona career and he was out for 3 months. From that point, he has had recurring hamstring issues. Before that he was fairly healthy and didn't miss a single game due to injuries.

Would quite like to see this come off. His injuries are a concern but that could be down to Barcelona's methods and not playing regularly. It's a pretty high risk potentially ridiculously high reward transfer.

It’s all over youtube mate. I even watched one the other day to prepare myself of him coming. Frankly he’s quite good
I was joking about the YouTube. I know he’s very, very talented but we will be taking a massive gamble. Wanting Sancho all season and ending up Dembele in the context would leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

That’s a worry. Hamstring injuries are pretty chronic. Just ask Michael Owen at that same age

A loan deal would make sense, but we can’t go big on him with his injury record.

Liverpool and Juve were all over him this summer and he rejected them. If they got him and we went for someone like Sarr for similar money we would all be complaining about it.

If he plays 1/3 of the season that is 1/3 of the season with a top talent at RW in place of James and Lingard.

About £45m. It's a decent price for someone with as much talent as him. Can't really get excited about it though.

Barca will be selling him for about half the price they bought him at 3 years ago.

1/3 isn’t it?

you just have to look at Coutinho in the CL final to really drive home how misguided Barca have been in the market recently.

A player of Dembele's quality for 50m is an absolute steal.

Even if he's fit for only half a season it's still worth it, I genuinely think people don't realise how good he is in top form.

At that price we could potentially make a few sales and still go for Sancho next window also. This is a win/win.

Massive talent. In some areas better than Sancho. Can score and is great crosser. He used to take corners in Barca. In Barca! BUT... has a horrible injury record. He can be the next big thing or be Alexis 2.0. It's a gamble but it seems we don't have other options and for less than 50mils. Well.. What about his wages?

Lots of potential still and could be a class signing if he stays fit.

Big if but if he does stay fit, this will be seen as a steal at half the price we'd have paid for Sancho.

I just cannot believe this, will be a worse transfer than Sanchez. I now wish we were in for Bale.

For feck sakes you’d rather have Bale? Those complaining of Dembele’s attitude seem to be forgetting Bale’s concern about his golf handicap rather than football in Madrid. Bale is an absolute cnut and I’m glad we stayed away.

Even when fit he’s still raw. He hasn’t hugely developed at all and his decision making is massively questionable. Sancho is miles ahead of him currently. There is no way of spinning paying 50m on him after the last few years as anything other than insanity. I was massively on board with a loan and option to buy but I refuse to believe we’re crazy enough to drop 50m on him. It’s the very definition of a panic buy.

I think so. As far as natural talent goes I think he is above Sancho. For 50 mil it's a no brainer.
