Absolutely same feeling, a lot of daft conclusions that a like for like Neymar replacement was needed- he's the 2nd best player in the world for me, that's not something you can easily replace or need to

A like for like just was never warranted. People probably have forgotten but many thought it wouldn't work to even play Neymar with Messi, much less Suarez. The attack doesn't require it, they need balance and they'll have a special attacking player to give that balance in the final third

The midfield will remain a concern until addressed

If Dembele fulfills his potential this would be a great deal, in the span of 4 years we signed Ney, enjoyed him, won titles, sold him and signed Dembele who's younger than Neymar in 2013 and we probably ended the operation with profit (bar wages), midfield still has to be adressed, yeah.

What I'm most curious to see is if Dembele scoring numbers skyrocket by coming here, he doesn't seem to be a great scorer, let's see where playing alongside Messi could put him

How much did they get him for?

And does this mean countinho is staying?

I hope the Barcelona fans give him time.

He's nowhere near the finished article and they are going to have to be very patient with him over the next few years.

Don't talk in terms of 'the right to do something'. Pretty much everyone agreed Dortmund had the right to ask whatever they wanted for Dembele in the first place. People also have the right to call them greedy for how they handled the Dembele situation. As for myself, I consider them greedy and smart at the same time, as I've said it more than once.
Have you quoted the wrong post?

I don't think he'll need much patience, atleast not as long as few years. He might take some time to get used to the new setup but he'll be fine, just incredibly talented.

He is incredibly talented, but he's also only 19.

Can you remember back to how inconsistent Ronaldo was at 19?

And this was precisely my rationale and approach last season for selling Neymar when many wouldn't have considered it. It's so good for all involved but especially the club, that's the downside too as surely it'll give some oxygen to Bartomeu

He will fight for this shirt and really capture our imagination in ways only the most unique talents can - we're lucky honestly, even Les Bleus will especially profit from this union

No. In that post you were refering to something everyone here already agrees upon. A truism if you may.

It's Dortmund's right to ask whatever they want for Dembele and Barca can only pay that or move on to other targets. Don't see why people feel the need to mention this time and time again. It's pretty clear and NOT what the discussion is about.

One poster made comments on Dortmund comming across as more than a little greedy in their handling of the Dembele situation and not the victim that people are speaking about. That's what started this, and it is not a denial of Dortmund's rights to ask whatever they want for Dembele, but more of a personal evaluation of how Dortmund came across in this transfer.

Ousmane loves the team and understands the club culture from a fan perspective already which means fans will worship and he will fight to earn that affection to win. He's special and Barcelona is renowned for that caliber of player. It'll be my next kit to purchase but I'll put #7

Messi 3rd best is a bit harsh.

Just like it's perfectly reasonable then to point out that only Barca fans call them greedy whereas everyone else seems perfectly aware that Dortmund didn't want to sell in the first place? It's just poor behavior in my opinion to complain about the selling team's price when they said before that they want to keep the player. Everything between 100 and 150 million in the current market situation is acceptable for a player as talented as Dembele. Dortmund went on to sell him in the end, they listened to Barca's offers, despite the player trying to strike himself out of the club while breaching his contract with the club. It's ridiculous to paint Dortmund in a bad light because of this transfer saga where they allowed the transfer to be completed within a little more than 2 weeks.

Barca came knocking for one of their best players, one of the most exciting young players in the world right now. That's why Dortmund are the victims. What they did after is try to get as much money as possible out of Barca to soften the blow. You can say it's greedy, sure. But then surely it's greedy of Barcelona to try and nab someone else's best player.

That's how this whole thing works. The best clubs have every right to go for the best players, the selling clubs have every right to get as much money as possible. It's not about greed, it's about staying competitive. Barcelona want to strengthen their team to win things. In doing so, you're damaging another club's chances of winning things, so that club wants as much compensation as possible - money that can then be used to strengthen their own team.

Well, obviously, you don't say you want to sell the player even if you want to right? Dortmund wanted to sell Dembele for sure, hell, they just did that. They just wanted as much money as possible. It is my personal opinion that they upped the asking price because they knew Barca had the money. Which is, in my opinion both smart and greedy.

Nope. That's a contractual dispute. Barca think Neymar owes them money, Neymar thinks the other way. They are suing each other now as far as I know.

What about Barca's FFP complaint or La Liga threatening to block the transfer. There was plenty of moaning on Barca's side.

La Liga is not Barca. That's obvious. Separate entities. Barca's FFP complaint is normal. Every club should complain about that when a club dribbles all rules regarding financial fair play with ease.

That's your definition of Barca moaning and bitching? Something La Liga did, who is run by a Madrid fan (Tebas), and a logical FFP complaint?

Of course they upped the asking price because they knew Barca had the money. Which is the perfectly reasonable thing to do if Barca wants to snatch Dortmund's star player. Just like BPL teams have been overpaying for players for ages because there's more money in the PL.
Dortmund wanted to sell Dembele? Probably as much as Barca wanted to sell Neymar. They eventually had to because they player tried to blackmail them with his strike. Starting at a certain sum it just makes more sense to allow the transfer to happen that to have to deal with a striking Dembele who won't stay for much longer now anyway.

If Dembele shows up to training Dortmund probably would not even answer the phone when Barca called. They did not sign him to a 5 year contract to sell him in 1.

Maybe we have different ideas about what Barca are expecting. If it's one of the best players around, yes, it'll take a few years. I was going by them expecting him to be a creative spark for them, someone who can produce moments of magic. He's perfectly capable of doing that on a much smaller time frame.

Again, you seem to be inventing things that aren't there in the post you quoted or my post before that to you. What you're now replying to is a discussion we had hours ago and has nothing to do with the post you quoted or the one before that.

Greed - An excessive desire to acquire or possess more than what one needs or deserves.

Barca needs a top player once Neymar left for PSG. So, based on what greed means (definition of the word above), in the context of a tier 1 club, they are not greedy to go after Dembele.

There is no way to talk yourself out of this. Neymar missed a game because his player papers weren't in France yet. Barca fans and staff moanes for weeks, it was hard to miss it on any footballing side. Now there's the FFP complaint, which Barca only were assed to do because PSG took their toy.

The game was played on short notice. Barca staff moaned regarding the lack of response from Neymar. They didn't moaned about Neymar leaving, but about him refusing to speak about the issue.

So I'm guessing Dortmund don't need to get more money by a higher potential transfer sum in order to close the financial gap between them and the top clubs? Because "Dortmund are a feeder club anyway", right? Why would they want to improve their position. Greedy bastards, eh?

Isn't the player topic on Barca forum called "Moneymar"? Oh that's a smart wordplay based on Neymar not responding. Not at all based on Barca fans being pissed that he left.

Exactly and the player, while dreaming of Barcelona, didn't want to come even a year earlier and be bench fodder. Moreover, there's no way he would have gone for half the price in a Neymar-free market. After the Pogba deal, he was always going to be a minimum 100 million transfer. The price concerns me less than the manner and time it took to close the deal

Why do you keep comparing him with Pogba ffs? Pogba went for 105 last year, Dembele went for 15.

I'm not talking about fans here. I'm talking about the club. As soon as he said to the team and to the manager that he wants out he was allowed to leave training and set things up with PSG. That's cold hard evidence. What more do you want?

Was going to say the exact same thing.
Cheers. Saves me saying it.

So Dortmund deserve only to be a tier 2 club? Forever? Because that is their status right now?

Sorry that other clubs are so indecent to challenge you. Even on the transfer market. What a disgrace!

Pogba's fee looks like a modern equivelent of Roy Keane's signing. Expensive but worth it.

Crazy how £50 million is now the new £20/25m.

Dortmund have either sold or lost their best players in the last 3 years. They are a selling club, everyone impartial knows that. If they weren't a selling club and they could keep their players, Bundesliga woulnd't have been over in march or early april.

And you're missing the little simple fact that when a player wants out, he's not of use to you anymore.

When Dortmund will be able to be like Bayern, and have players who are happy to play for them and see them as a final step in their career, then they can make other big claims and they will be able to keep their players. Until then, they can't.

After this post I want to see PSG turn Barca into a "selling club".

I'd be interested to see who Dortmund targets to sign next as a replacement, although they did well enough last week without him. Maybe they don't buy this window, as I'm sure everyone will give them the 'Barca' discount, LOL. Figure he was destined for Barca sometime this window, so maybe they already set things in motion to replace him anyway. Whatever the case, we should try to hijack the move

When top players will consistenly want out from Barca to sign for PSG, then they will be a selling club. Until then, they aren't, while Dortmund are. It's how things are. Dortmund need to challenge Bayern harder and better. Make it a competition for the no1 spot in Germany at least, not a question about how many weeks in advance will Bayern win it this year.

On paper they have Gotze, Kagawa, Reus, Schurrle, Philipp, Pulisic, Isak and Aubameyang as offensive options. I think they're fine for now and will give Pulisic even more chances to shine.
