They still havent conceded a goal? Was hoping their defense would be a joke again, seems like Clyne and this Gomes fella had a similar impact as our fullbacks.

That's correct, 3 cleansheets as well for Liverpool of which 2 are away at Stoke (who trashed Liverpool with 6 goals last season) and Arsenal.

Meh, any other team would have scored against Liverpool today IMO. Arsenal doing their typical tiki-taka without end product again.
this was really pissing me off watching it. They forever want to pass the ball around the keeper into the net, scared to death of shooting in the box. Would have been happy for Liverpool to score due to it

That's the same Arsenal that thrashed us last season? OooooooKaaaay.

True, LvG is one more season settled now. Arsenal really have made big strides and they've lost their bottlers tag with successive trophies. City haven't moved anywhere really.

No team last season had the problem of being decimated like us (Suarez/Sturridge) while having to play a club legend for 18 games as he kept threatening to leave (which he eventually did). Completely messing up a tried and tweed style of playing that would have got us fourth even with the likes of Balotelli in the team. Yes we spent big but the real issue was taking two steps back playing Gerrard.

LvG saw Falcao and Di Maria were playing shit...off to the bench they went. No such graces for us unfortunately, we had no key to unlock our substantial handcuff. Not having Gerrard this season is like being free of a huge weight and boy were we drowning.

People assume our starting position is from where we ended last season. But that's not the case, there's no Stevie Gerrard conundrum for Rodgers to waste half a season on for a start.

Our starting position isn't from where we ended 2nd either as that too was skewed by the presence of Suarez. We're somewhere in between so two steps forward is decent if we indeed do make that.

We got rid of Gerrard. Finally. You talk of strenthening your midfield to bring about balance and order in the rest of your team.....we were riding a huge bike uphill with square wheels with Gerrard in the middle all of last season.

No one seems to have noticed this. :)

Don't mean to keep bleating on (by obviously bleating on) about this but there's a crucial difference to how we're playing this season compared to last. Its not our new fullbacks, its not our new striker. Its the guarantee that Mile Jedinak and Stewart Downing will never be MOTM against us ever again like we allowed them to be last season. :)

Either that or 3 unbelievably fortunate decisions and a wonder goal being the difference between 7 points from 9 and great progress, last season a distant memory with Gerrard/Balotelli as the scapegoats holding the team back vs 1 point from 9 and calls for Rodgers head on a pike.

I don't see any difference between Matt Richie waltzing through your midfield and Downing doing it last year... Except 2 poor decisions changing the score board from 1-0 to 0-1 (costing Richie a MotM award in the process).

What about the Stoke and Arsenal away games last season which we lost conceding 10 goals in total (I believe)?

That's a shit lot of lucking and reffing to keep those sheets sparkling.

Looked much more solid with 3 in MF. Hope Brendan goes back to Hendo/Milner MF 2 against us.

Nope still not worried, they may be harder to beat this season (better RB, more energy in midfield) but there's already and overreliance on Coutinho to do something out of the ordinary for them to get a goal

Albeit neither of us have shown it yet there's more goals in both ours and Arsenals teams and both are arguably going to be just as good defensively over the season as well (only question mark over that would be our GK and the ongoing injuries in defense)

Fair play @Rafateria , Gomez looked solid tonight against quality opposition. Didn't look out of place at all, so yeah, happy :) Clyne was also solid. This is the happiest I've been with our fullbacks for quite some time now.

Happy with the draw.
He didn't look out of place at all, but still commits too many stupid fouls because he makes wrong choices going forward. That'll improve though and he was again very solid defensively today, so yeah, definitely happy with his performance as well.

You'll be laughed at for suggesting that on here.
Nah, I've seen quite some people who've said Benteke would do a great job for United up front. And I absolutely agree with them.

I think we have more offensively and defensively than we did last season, but there's no denying there's more goals in Arsenal's squad than there are in our own.

Christian Benteke has a lovely big arse, though! Can't believe I only just noticed tonight.

It's all about the formation we're playing. With Southampton, he had Morgan Schjefnuisnf and Wanyama sitting in front of the back four - Last year with us he had Gerrard  Now with someone like Lucas in midfield, and Can/Milner helping out a lot, our back four is a lot more protected than it has been for a while.

Very happy with our back line too mate. Even Lovren seems to have stepped up his form considerably, maybe due to the reasons Carra highlighted after the match. BR chose the team I wanted to see because Arsenal have a tendency to play very close to each and narrow in the centre, it made complete sense to put Lucas in there and I though Can did very well too.
It was an excellent team performance and we probably should have put them away in the first half but a draw was a fair reflection of the match in the end. A very good point. Excited to see more of Firmino when he gets up to speed !

He was swansea manager, not southampton's

They've had a few decisions go their way but they are doing better than many predicted on here up to now.

Looked really good in the first half. Coutinho is turning into quite a player and Benteke showed how to play striker. (should have scored).

We would be stupid to dismiss them as challengers for a top 4 place. It's not a certainity for us, Liverpool will fight for it to the end.

You can't take two somewhat freak results in isolation as proof for anything. The chances are you won't beat Spurs and So'ton 5-0 (combined) away from home this season. If you came away with two 1-1 draws it wouldn't somehow mean your defence and forward line were vastly inferior.

True, but had those two offside decisions not gone their way, then they would be doing a lot worse than many on here predicted.

I think Clyne and Darmian will battle it out for the RB spot in the team of the season. Looks like both 'pool and us have done well with those signings.

Surprised to see Firmino get such praise on here, didn't think he did much yesterday. Coutinho, Benteke, Can, Clyne and Gomez were all superb for them.

They are a better side than last year, but they wouldn't look half the team without Coutinho. He's becoming some player.

"It was clear...I could see live that he could not be offside," said Wenger in his post-match interview. Given that there was approximately four inches of Skrtel playing Ramsey on, and given Wenger's history when it comes to selective vision, you'll forgive me a wry smile in response to that comment.
Rodgers also gave his opinion on the decision: "I've seen a replay, his shirt looks offside. Great decision by the linesman.

Mignolet 7, Gomez 7.5, Lovren 7.5, Skrtel 8.5 (MoM), Clyne 8, Lucas 7.5, Milner 7.5, Can 7, Firmino 6.5, Coutinho 8, Benteke 8, Ibe 4, Rossiter 6.5, Moreno 6 (should have done better on the break at the end, near cert goal if he just touched it right to Can).

3 big decisions gone Liverpool's way this season (4 if you include Lucas' clumsy challenge on Giroud). Let's hope they get 4 go against them in the next 2 games so we can hear how the FA is corrupt and wants to keep them down.

Would be interesting if we could have a thread of decisions going for and against each team every week and see how it evens out at the end of the season (big decisions, not decisions like not getting a corner or a FK. I mean Pens/Offsides/Red Cards etc).
