3 big decisions gone Liverpool's way this season (4 if you include Lucas' clumsy challenge on Giroud). Let's hope they get 4 go against them in the next 2 games so we can hear how the FA is corrupt and wants to keep them down.

Would be interesting if we could have a thread of decisions going for and against each team every week and see how it evens out at the end of the season (big decisions, not decisions like not getting a corner or a FK. I mean Pens/Offsides/Red Cards etc).

Have you decided which team will get a spiffy deflected goal that results in you losing 1-0, followed by an own goal by Smalling to result in another 1-0 loss, yet? Any two games in the season will do. Then you can all moan about how fckign lucky Liverpool are and how you never get the run of the green. ;)

Quotes:

Praise too to Rodgers for taking the chance on Gomez, not just in making the purchase but giving him the opportunity. The Northern Irishman may have many faults, but trusting youth is not one of them. Nine of the 14 players Liverpool used against Arsenal are aged 24 and under, compared with six out of 13 for Arsenal.

Liverpool's average age on the pitch at the full time whistle was 21.8 years old.

Mignolet 7 - good game but there were no world class saves needing to be made there so some praise I've seen it a bit OTT.

Gomez 7.5 - same with Joe. Everyone knows I've bigged him up from pre-eason and wanted him to start as LB from Day 1, however even though he played well yesterday it should be noted that the vast majority of Arsenal pressure came from our right yet I'm not seeing the same level of support for Clyne (see the Arsenal heat map, Joe's side is green whilst Clyne's bright red) !

Lovren 7.5 - lead the line pushing the defence out and was solid though out, superbly covered Skrtel once or twice.

Skrtel 8.5 (MoM) - some magnificent defending and that out-stretched leg that flew past our post saved a certain tap-in for Walcott.

Clyne 8 - when you look at the pressure he was under, with one of the world's best forwards in Sanchez, Ozil and Monreal on the overlap, and the lack of help he received from Firmino and especially Ibe, you wonder how he ever got forward. Maybe could even be MoM.

Lucas 7.5 - I advocated him sitting behind Milner and Can pre-match. He did exactly what I expected and did it superbly.

Milner 7.5 - quality, energy, support. What more do you want ?

Can 7 - I thought he did well for most of the match, especially going forward but he also got his foot in on some vital occasions as the pressure began to build.

Firmino 6.5 - Stat : made more chances for LFC in the 1st half than the whole of the AFC team combined. Went under the radar a little but he is going to be fantastic.

Coutinho 8 - what ore is there to say ? unlucky not to score.

Benteke 8 - battered them from start to finish, great save by Cech though he should have put it away.

Ibe 4, Rossiter 6.5, Moreno 6 (should have done better on the break).

Should be noted that Lucas, Can and Firmino were all starting for the first time this season after hard Summers and all notably tired in that second half.

I'm talking about decisions, not deflections or someone slipping () on their ass.

Bet Liverpool are top of the crossbar challenge, ay?

They all fall under the banner of 'luck'. If you're lucky the ref will blow your way. If not you'll suffer from it. Decisions, deflections, own goals will all balance out eventually.

Err noooo... there's a banner called 'luck' and there's a banner called 'referee's decisions'.

Two different banners.

At the start of the match the average age of Liverpool was 24.8 vs 26.7 of Arsenal, Liverpool's average age wasn't that impressive when you consider United in their last match had a starting average age of 25.1 and United are supposed to be challenging for the championship!

It's not really trusting youth since every club needs and fields young players, they are cheaper to buy so Liverpool can compete in the market for them and also there are more of them with potential than those who realise their potential and finally managers such as Ferguson and Louis van Gaal have shown in the past young players also have qualities that make up for the lack of experience, in the United team it is Depay and Januzaj who are audacious enough to be inventive not the older players, it's about finding the balance between experience (especially in the spine of the team) and the energy and unpredictability of youth.

Liverpool had Mignolet, Skrtel, Lovren, Milner and Lucas giving them an experienced spine against Arsenal, Rodgers is just doing the sensible thing, he's not 'trusting youth' but finding that combination of youth and experience.

Coutinho is such a lovely dribbler and not just that, he is very threatening and is responsible for 75% of Liverpool's creativity at the least.

I'd love to hear from rival fans on this...

Do you think Coutinho is of a quality/potential that we could be losing him to a mega-club in the future?

I think liverpool is quite lucky with this as all the other big teams are pretty stocked with that type of player so just wouldn't need him. Like how City bought Silva and nobody else was even linked with him. Though he is quality without a doubt.

He's a ridiculous talent. If it finally clicks one day he's going to be gone sooner rather than later.

Looks like it's pretty close to clicking. The "he's too inconsistent" criticisms are getting less and less true.

*just to clarify, they were true a while ago but his consistency is improving by the month.

I think it is getting close. Maybe in the next year or so. He just signed a new contract didn't he? Gives Liverpool some power in negotiations if it does happen.

For all their attacking talent in Coutinho, Benteke and Firmino, I find it laughable that they've only scored 2 goals (well 1 goal considering the other was offside). Then again I can't laugh unless United smash a few past Swansea tomorrow.

So where's Sakho? Why is Lovren playing games?

Lovren is one of Rodgers' favourites, so he gets excused after every shit performance.

No Suarez, Sturridge, Gerrard, Sterling, or Coutinho to save them - we're going to thrash them in 2 weeks.

Love it!!

Now that countinho is out of that game through suspension where exactly does their threat come from?

Do they even have one? He's the only player that could've give Mike smalling and Daley blind any trouble.

Looking at the result I'm presuming they didn't get a goal given incorrectly, a good goal against them disallowed wrongly or score a 1/50 wonder goal?

Normal service resumes then.

They're back to hating the goalposts, they include them in the conspiracy against them.

Good luck against Swansea tomorrow. You're gonna need your joint top PL striker: Walker.

What is the reason Rodgers plays Lovren instead of Sakho? Sakho surely isn't that bad?

To be fair, I can see why Liverpool fans would forget about Rooney scoring 3 and Memphis scoring 2 in a Champions League tie after the competition so carelessly lost Liverpool.

Just signed until 2020, so Liverpool have a lot of leverage. I think it would have to be a massive deal, but if Liverpool aren't in the top 4 this year or next, then you'd think he'd be antsy to leave.

If this site is true: http://www.totalsportek.com/money/liverpool-player-salaries/
and he's on 75K a week and 7th in wages there he should fire his agent immediately.

Why the hell was Milner sporting the armband today with Skrtel & Lucas there?

I'll never understand decisions like that to give armbands to new players. I mean if we're talking about a truly great and experienced player then it would make more sense than James Milner...

Tbf Milner looks a better captain material than either Lucas or skrtel. Even over Henderson if I may add.

Rodgers subs are strange. I don't understand any of the tactical changes he made.

Benteke might as well not played. All he got was long balls with no one helping out. Surprised they didn't stick two up front in the second half - the start of the second half.

Lovren is just

He definitely has the potential for it and is closer to that level than most want to accept. Really rate him. Regarding the move though, a big factor working in your favor is the options other top clubs have in his position. The 3 in England who would be considered a move up don't need him. Ditto the 2 in Spain and Bayern.
